Saturday, 25 August 2012 CHARLES GREEN'S INVITE TO WALTER SMITH CHARLES GREEN has won over Rangers supporters to such an extent that by this time next week the season ticket sales tally will hit the 40,000 mark. That is more than it was when Rangers went into the campaign in the Scottish Premier League this time last year as defending champions. It is an amazing statement of faith in their team, despite its Third Division status, from angry fans. But so far, that response from Rangers fans has been more of a direct two fingers up to the Scottish Premier League, the Scottish Football Association and everyone else who those supporters rightly believe hate their club. So far, despite some grudging acceptance of Charles Green, the vast majority of those fans remains sceptical of Charles Green and the men whose interests the chief executive officer represents. Most supporters I have spoken to will accept and admit that much of the work they see Charles Green has done meets with their approval. And they agree with some of what he has said. But it is a grudging approval, a reluctant agreement and every supporter I have spoken to adds the wordsâ?¦ so far. They are also quick to add, they still have reservations about Charles Green. But there is one thing Charles Green could do to convince even the biggest doubters. One thing he could do to ensure even his most outspoken critic â?? thatâ??s me â?? will view him in a different way. One thing he could do to earn more than just the benefit of the doubt. It is quite simply this. Charles Green could convince Walter Smith that this regime is good for Rangers. Good for the future well-being of the club and good for the vast army of Rangers supporters. And if my information is right, then I believe Charles Green has already started to woo the man Rangers supporters trust more than any other in the world and who they refer to simply asâ?¦. â??Sirâ? Walter. Charles Green invited Walter Smith to be his guest in the directorsâ?? box at Ibrox when Rangers met East Stirling in their opening home Third Division game last week. But it is what happened afterwards which may point the way ahead for Charles Green. For the two men met for the first time and spent almost an hour in private conversation. I would love to have been a fly on the wall. One of the many things Walter Smith most assuredly is, is a very good judge of men. He is a shrewd judge of character. Therefore, if Charles Green can convince Walter Smith his intentions are honourable towards the club Smith grew up supporting, became assistant manager off, before taking over to steer Rangers to nine-in-a-row, returned to for a second time around of three-in-a-row and a European final, then the chief executive will have won over all the doubters. And all of his critics. Including me! Do you sense a but coming? That Charles Green should then go even further? Then youâ??re right. What Charles Green should do is invite Walter Smith to take a seat in the Ibrox Boardroom. As I have said, no man is more trusted by Rangers supporters than Walter Smith. Honoured, revered and even worshipped too. If Walter Smith felt comfortable enough with Charles Green to accept an invitation to become a Rangers director, that would be the final nail in the coffin of criticism of Charles Green. From everyone. Including me! However, I believe Charles Green will have to reveal more to Walter Smith than he has so far been willing to, to others, about the beneficial owners of Rangers. That is the men â?? or even just man â?? whose name is protected by Blue Pitch Holdings. Were Smith to be satisfied as to the character and probity of the beneficial owner or owners, I believe he could be tempted to return for a third stint at the club. And, once again, if Charles Green wishes to win over the sceptics, doubters and outspoken critics â?? thatâ??s me again â?? he should consider giving Walter Smith an active role as, for example, chairman, in place of the ineffectual Malcolm Murray. For if Green is really determined to take on Stewart Regan and the Scottish Football Association, if Green is honestly determined to tangle with Neil Doncaster and the Scottish Premier League and if Green really does want to shake Celtic and Peter Lawwell and their influence inside the SFA and SPL, there is no better man to carry the fight to the enemies of Rangers than Walter Smith. Indeed, Green could go even further. For if he manages to convince Walter Smith to return to Ibrox and take his rightful and fully earned place at the Boardroom table, then the time would be ripe to also invite that great Rangers legend, John Greig, to join him there. With Walter Smith and John Greig as directors, the Ibrox board would start to look like a Rangers board of directors again. Rangers would start to look like Rangers again. Charles Green took the first steps in the right direction when he invited Walter Smith to Ibrox last Saturday and spent so long talking to him. My view is that Smith will have thought long and hard about what Green told him. If they meet again, Smith will have some hard, searching and probing questions prepared. If Charles Green can answer them to the satisfaction of Walter Smith and back his claims with proof positive, then I believe the man Rangers supporters trust more than any other, will be back at Ibrox. With John Greig soon follow-following him back up in the Marble Stairs he first climbed more than half a century ago.

Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2012 15:52:13 +0100 Dear Ross, We have heard these rumours re our voting position and feel that they may have been started by others that perhaps had not the courage of their convictions or the bravado to declare their voting stance. As the board member representing Stranraer FC at said meeting I can tell you with complete and unquestionable certainty that the vote cast against admission of your club was not the vote taken by our club. We had and have no axe to grind with Glasgow Rangers FC, its board, players or supporters but felt that given the SPL had put SFL clubs in a position that was really nothing to do with them and as such the position of our club which never deviated from day one despite scaremongering and doomsday scenario threats was that GRFC join the SFL in Division Three and we would have additionaly added if called upon- with no further sanctions to the new owners. We would like to take this opportunity to wish your club well both on and off the field in the future. I hope this clarifies our clubs position. Iain Dougan Vice Chairman Stranraer FC

IMPORTANT NEWS The Rangers Supporters Assembly this week contacted Stranraer and Clyde FC to give them the opportunity to answer rumours that they were the club not to vote Rangers into the SFL. The response below is from Stranraer. We have yet to receive a response from Clyde FC. Good evening Ross, Please see below a m...essage from our vice chairman which I hope clarifies the position of Stranraer FC and will give you the information that you have requested to feeback to your members. As a club we would be grateful to you to set the record straight on our behalf and that is most certainly that it was not Stranraer FC that voted to exclude The Rangers FC from admission to the SFL. Our position was and remains that we would prefer to see an open election held in the event of any vacancy occurring to fill the available position and that should be at the lowest tier and that is how our statement, which mentioned no club by name was intended to be read. Ideally we would have welcomed applicants from any interested party and that would have included Rangers. There is no doubt that in the summer of 2012, Rangers, with a 50,000 seater stadium, a dedicated training centre at Murray Park and a huge and loyal fan base would have presented the best case for election on that basis and we would have supported that bid. As there was no election and a straightforward decision on whether to support the admission of Rangers into Division Three was all that was required essentially, our decision at board/committee level was clear and unanimous and we voted to support the admission of your club accordingly. I trust that clarifies matters for you and thank you for your assistance in communicating this to your supporters, members and interested groups. Should you require any additonal information, we would be more than happy to provide it. On a personal note, I well remember how I felt when my club stood on the brink of extinction in late 2008 and I fully understand the wide spectrum of conflicting emotions that Rangers supporters have experienced over the past 6 months or so. It is a situation that can't be covered by words alone and can't quite be understood until experienced first hand. I have no doubt that Rangers will rise back to their natural place in the top echelons of our game very quickly and will return there far stronger for this experience. I would like to wish your club, players, officals and most importantly, the supporters of Rangers all the very best for this season and beyond and hope that we get the opportunity to cross swords on the field of play once again in the near future. Yours in Sport, Shaun Niven Committee Member Stranraer FC

CHARLES GREEN has insisted that the new retail partnership with Sports Direct can be massively important for Rangers in terms of increasing revenue and expanding the reach off the club worldwide. A joint venture with Sports Direct was announced on Wednesday allowing Rangers to control its retail operation and it gives supporters the chance to buy direct from the club. He told RangersTV: “It’s really important for a number of reasons, not least of which Sport Direct are a massive partner from a selling and a buying point of view. “This joint venture means that significant amounts of profit will go straight back into the club and that’s very important as we develop our plans for Rangers going forward. “Sports Direct are global and what we have said all along is that we want to take the Rangers brand worldwide and with their connections it’s going to be hugely helpful.” A retail wing of the club has been reintroduced so the megastore at Ibrox will be run by club employees. Green added: “We have plans for other stores. Fans have said to me from day one can we get a store in Glasgow Airport, for example. “We will be opening stores in Northern Ireland. We used to have three stores there and I was speaking to supporters ahead of last Saturday’s game who had come over on the ferry and told them that I will going over there in the next few weeks to meet fans groups and look to set up shops there. “The key is that fans can buy direct. We were in partnership with JJB and things went well. “In terms of my view of how Rangers should look after itself in marketing and branding, to have it in-house is very important. “I think the financial figures can be very good. I looked at the historic figures when I was doing my due diligence and I think Rangers Retail, with a partner like Sports Direct, can achieve a great turnover. “This will mean huge amounts of money coming in to help develop the club, develop the team and develop the team worldwide.”

Rangers could be fast-tracked into second tier via league reconstruction By Brian Marjoribanks PUBLISHED:22:45, 22 August 2012| UPDATED:22:47, 22 August 2012 SFA chief Stewart Regan has revealed that league reconstruction is still being planned for next season â?? in a move which could see Rangers fast-tracked to the second tier of Scottish football a year ahead of schedule. Regan will kick-start plans to revitalise the professional game on Thursday when a working group, featuring representatives from the SPL and SFL and headed by an independent chairman, are tasked with devising a new structure. The exact model is yet to be determined but the starting point for discussions will be proposals for a 16-team Premier League, with two divisions below, which would give the Ibrox club a quicker route back to the top flight should they navigate their way out of the Third Division as expected. Reborn: Rangers have been in impressive form in league and cup This plan, which included play-offs and a fairer distribution of income among the leagues, was overwhelmingly rejected 25-5 by SFL clubs last month as part of Reganâ??s botched bid to parachute newco Rangers into the First Division. The SFA confirmed at the time they would push on with a reform agenda, amid widespread scepticism that it would ever see the light of day. But Regan insisted on Wednesday that a new league system will â??ideallyâ?? be in place by the start of season 2013/14. He said: â??We have a meeting on Thursday and the plan is to put a working party in place to come up with reconstruction proposals that can be implemented ideally from next season. â??The joint proposal put forward (in July) was not something the SFL wanted to take forward but reconstruction remains part of the agenda for Scottish football. â??The (SFL rejection) was accepted because itâ??s a democratic process and now we move forward. â??The SPL and the SFL will take new proposals back to their respective members and it will require a 75 per cent vote from the SFL and an 11-1 vote by the SPL to vote change through.â?? Meanwhile, Regan would not be drawn on whether Rangers owner Charles Green will face fresh disciplinary action following his latest outburst towards the SFA, in which he accused them of persecuting the club. All change: Stuart Regan (right) expects to see league reconstruction But he called on the outspoken Yorkshireman to draw a line under his ongoing war of words with the governing body and suggested they were purely designed to sell season tickets. Green is up before the SFA next week after suggesting bigotry was at the heart of his clubâ??s banishment from the SPL, while manager Ally McCoist also faces a charge relating to comments about the organisationâ??s judicial panel in April. â??Charles Green has his own reasons why heâ??s making the comments he is,â?? said Regan. â??But itâ??s clear Rangers have galvanised their fans behind the club and sold a huge amount of season tickets. â??Theyâ??ve used the situation to get the fans behind them but itâ??s important for Scottish football that we move on now and restore focus on the football itself and look forward to league reconstruction and helping produce good young talent.â?? Regan also admitted the Scottish game was in a â??better placeâ?? than he feared when he famously claimed that Rangersâ?? demotion to the Third Division would lead to the â??slow, lingering death of Scottish footballâ??. But he did not regret the rhetoric which prompted calls for his head. â??I think we have to move forward,â?? said Regan. â??We are in a better place than could have been imagined in terms of the negotiations between the SPL and its commercial partners. On the up: Ally McCoist continues to impress at the Ibrox helm 'Iâ??m not sure the contracts have been signed yet but the feedback about those renegotiations have been positive. We will have to wait and see but everyone is doing their best to move on and try to build a stronger game. â??Do I regret some of the language? I think at the time, the information put forward by everyone was based on knowledge we had of the get-out clauses that existed in contracts for commercial partners. â??What was done at the time was to draw attention to potential consequences for the game and that has now been progressed to a stage where those contracts are in a slightly better place. â??But we donâ??t know what the consequences will be until they play out in the coming months. â??The greatest opportunity for the game right now, in terms of revenue, are discussions with UEFA to secure income for international matches between 2014 and 2018. â??All 53 nations have given UEFA a mandate to negotiate centrally for the sale of television rights across Europe. â??If that can be delivered successfully, that will give us a substantial boost of tens of millions of pounds over a four-year period and weâ??re confident that will happen. â??That money would help underpin the infrastructure of the game and the development of young players Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2192271/Rangers-fas-tracked-second-tier.html#ixzz24JzFhMGC

This post by Marcelo in our forum, The Bears' Den, has been incredibly well received by all of our users on RangersMedia and many are clubbing together to send Marcelo a Rangers shirt, as well as a few other items to help him learn more about our beloved Rangers. Even Rangers hero Lee McCulloch has offered to send Marcelo a signed shirt - an incredible gesture from big Jig! Rangers supporters have been through an incredibly torrid and testing time in the past six months, but the way we have reacted to the demotion to SFL Division 3, really is incredile and inspiring in itself - as Marcelo has testified above! The post really is an inspiration in itself and really demonstrates the impact the Rangers story has had on the world. It doesn't matter whether you live in Glasgow, Belfast, Toronto or Brazil - juntos, somos Rangers -

Little The Hero At Westfield Written by Neil Smith RANGERS have progressed to the quarter finals of the Ramsdens Cup after a hard working display secured a 1-0 victory against Falkirk at Westfield. In-form Andy Little scored the only goal of the night with a terrific finish on 44 minutes and, with the Light Blues gradually improving with every game, Ally McCoist will no doubt be pleased his side have booked their place in tomorrowâ??s 2.30pm draw at Hampden. The manager handed Chris Hegarty his top team debut as the visitors looked for a bit of revenge following last seasonâ??s League Cup exit to Steven Pressleyâ??s men at the same venue. The Northern Ireland under-21 captain put in a composed performance while Brazilian Emilson Cribari also looked comfortable alongside Carlos Bocanegra on his first start for his new club. Once again Rangers fans packed the stadium with hundreds still streaming into the stadium after kick off and their team started positively. With just six minutes on the clock an excellent near-post cross from Kirk Broadfoot was controlled instantly by Little who turned his marker but Michael McGovern was there to make an excellent diving block. At the other end Stewart Murdoch broke free from a challenge from Ian Black and played the ball down the right channel to Craig Sibbald but the youngster's teasing cross was too far in front of Bairnsâ?? number 9 Lyle Taylor who failed to make a connection. On 22 minutes another dangerous delivery from Sibbald made its way through to left back Stephen Kingsley but his shot on the volley was deflected over Neil Alexanderâ??s bar. After the half hour mark a jinking run from the lively Barrie McKay won a free-kick with Falkirk right back Kieran Duffle guilty of a poor challenge. Black crossed and Francisco Sandaza headed wide having rose above the home defence. Rangers were now in the ascendency and after McKay had won a corner another teasing Black cross almost swerved in at the back post but was nervously cleared. On 44 minutes the deadlock was finally broken and once again it was Little who showed his quality to bag his sixth goal of the campaign. The Ulsterman received the ball and produced a burst of pace to get away from left back Kingsley before drilling a low, right-foot shot across his countryman McGovern into the bottom corner of the net. It was another fine finish from Little and it couldnâ??t have come at a better time before the interval. As expected Falkirk came out fighting in the second period but chances were few and far between before the hour mark with the Gers new look backline working well together. On 68 minutes, however, referee Calum Murray had to go into his top pocket for the first time, issuing a yellow card to Sibbald for a late challenge on Black in the centre circle. As the Scotland midfielder got to his feet McCoist made two changes with Kal Naismith replacing McKay and Kevin Kyle taking the place of Sandaza. Robbie Crawford also got a late run-out, going on for Hegarty, on a night where both sets of fans got to see some of Scottish football's brightest young stars in action. With the game moving into injury time a few hard challenges were flying in, with Little on the receiving end of a couple, but Rangers held on to their victory and it was certainly deserved. Man of the Match - Andy Little: Once again put in a tenacious performance throughout the 90 minutes and was the matchwinner with his another superbly taken goal.

Rangers defender Dorin Goian has ruled out a switch to Italian Serie B side Spezia as he is happy playing for a famous club. A host of players have left Ibrox during a turbulent summer and speculation has suggested there could be further departures before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Goian has been linked with a move elsewhere but he maintains that he has no interest in joining Spezia. He told the Daily Record: "I cannot leave Rangers for Spezia. Even though we're in the bottom tier I am still playing for a world-famous team." Goian has been surprised and impressed by the fitness levels of the players at other clubs in the Scottish Third Division, having expected Rangers to find life much easier. "Before we started in this league I thought we'd be playing against fat amateurs. " Dorin Goian Quotes of the week He explained: "Before we started in this league I thought we'd be playing against fat amateurs. "But I've encountered many good, young players. SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE LTD PRIMA FACIA INSOLVENT! CELTIC FC FOUNDED THE SPL MONTHS BEFORE SCOTTISH LEAGUE ANNOUNCED SPLIT INVESTIGATION FINDS. By OnlinePubCo | Posted 3 minutes ago | SCOTLAND CNN PRODUCER NOTE On the 13th May 1997 Company Registered under number SC175364 came into being under the name DUNWILCO (597) LTD. On the 9th April 1998 (with an effective date of 1st April 1998- April Fool’s Day) DUNWILCO (597) LTD changed its name to THE SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE LTD. It is said that on 8 September 1997, the football clubs in the Premier Division decided to split from the Scottish Football League and form the Scottish Premier League. That simply cannot be sustained because although company number SC175364 changed its name in 1998 on checking company records show it was ‘reserved to Eric J Riley/F McCann from inception.’ It is a matter of public record that Celtic FC in 1994 was minutes from bankruptcy until a certain Canadian businessman stepped in on 3rd march 1994 guaranteeing an overdraft facility of £7.850, 000. The ‘disclosed’ overdraft at the time was said to be £5,000,000 which Celtic had exceeded but the actual overdraft and ‘special loan account’ was almost double that at £9, 875, 000. The idea of the SPL was that of Celtic and overall Mr McCann was a shrewd and innovative player that for certain assured Scottish Football. He floated Celtic and the rest is history. It is however, interesting to note the whole concept of the SPL came from Celtic who months before any decision was taken had already organised the structure. On the 30th October 2009 Sir David Murray made the following statement: “Rangers' debt is only a fraction of their turnover so why is there all this fuss?” It was to be one of many that the media carried knowing to be false. But it is not only Celtic and Rangers that have played with ‘spinning the truth’ the Scottish Premier League Ltd are doing so and have done so for some time. The latest available Accounts for the SPL show an insolvent balance sheet, with liabilities exceeding assets by £196,000. That is of course the ‘official’ balance sheet because the true extent of the deficiency will only be revealed on the 28th February 2013 since the accounts filed showing insolvency were dated 15th August 2011. An awful lot can happen in a year as has been the case at Rangers. It seems questionable that Rangers were denied their rightful place in the SPL by a company that was effectively formed by two Celtic directors in 1997 and who themselves prima facia by far kin a worse insolvency position than RFC PLC. Of course matters will be rectified by Christmas of this year with a reorganizational plan that may well mitigate and make amends to hard-done-by Rangers who incidentally are very far from near liquidation. There is more than a realistic prospect the Administration of Rangers Football Club PLC will be reviewed by the courts sooner than most think. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-830105
