RANGERS are set to swoop for St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean — but fear they could lose him to English football. Ibrox boss Ally McCoist has drawn up a list of targets for next season’s Championship campaign and the Scotland Under-21 star, is on it. McLean, 22, has also been targeted by several English clubs who know his Buddies contract expires this summer. Ipswich gaffer Mick McCarthy watched McLean in action against Hungary earlier this month. Leeds, Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield have also been north to run the rule over McLean. Paisley gaffer Danny Lennon has admitted the highly-rated kid is unlikely to sign a new deal, but Saints will hope he decides to head south. If he does they would pick up around £350,000 in compensation as McLean has been with them since he was 14. If he moved to Gers or another Scottish club, a tribunal would decide Saints’ fee for developing the player. McLean grew up a Gers fan and was discarded by their youth system as a kid. But the prospect of joining his boyhood heroes might sway his decision. Ibrox boss Ally McCoist, has yet to find out what funds — if any — he’ll have to strengthen his squad this summer. But the deals of fringe men Kyle Hutton, Emilson Cribari and Steve Simonsen are all up and that could free up some cash. from the sun

THE Ibrox shareholder made the move to contact his lawyers after Sons of Struth founder Craig Houston confronted him in the main stand during Wednesday's League One title celebrations. Houston, right, confronts Easdale at IbroxRANGERS last night declared war on their own fans as Sandy Easdale’s lawyers revealed they are planning to sue rebel supporters. The latest move came as the Union of Fans group unveiled plans for a mass protest at Ibrox on Saturday. Record Sport revealed on Wednesday how club investor Easdale and the under-fire Ibrox regime have aimed legal big guns at some high-profile critics such as Sons of Struth founder Craig Houston. We told how a flurry of warning shots had already been fired and how PR guru Jack Irvine had become a casualty – leaving Ibrox by mutual consent – after being caught up in the battle. But the situation further deteriorated yesterday when Houston was told Easdale would take him to court. Record Sport understands the move was made just hours after Houston confronted Easdale in the main stand at Ibrox during Wednesday night’s League One title celebrations. The lawyers are not acting for the club itself but have been instructed by Easdale. Houston revealed: “I’ve received a letter which makes it clear solicitors are preparing proceedings against myself and other named individuals at the Court of Session. “To say I am shocked is an understatement, especially after the conversation I had with Easdale on Wednesday. “The letter does not make clear the nature of the charges. But it does make clear that, even though Jack Irvine has now left the club, this board continues to turn on its own.” But last night Easdale defended his stance. He said: “This is action I am taking personally for libellous comments about me. “It’s not about taking a fan to court for being critical of the board. Some of the remarks are personal slurs. “I have sent several nice lawyers’ letters asking to stop and we’ll forget about it. “I don’t have a problem with people criticising me if I’ve done something wrong at Rangers. But taking it to a personal level has to stop. “I told him at the game lawyers were involved and he’d brought it on himself. “Tonight the lawyers have told him to sign something saying he won’t do it again and we’ll call the action off. “If he says no I’ll take him to the Court of Session. I don’t want to take any fan to court but, on a personal level, I’m not having it anymore.” Meanwhile, the Union of Fans are to hand out 30,000 blue cards at Ibrox on Saturday calling for the board to accept Dave King’s plan to inject fresh share capital into the club. The South African tycoon last night flew into Scotland and plans to meet with fans’ groups as he looks to ramp up his bid to force through boardroom change.

Hong Kong, 13 March 2014 - Hong Kong; March 13, 2014: Premier League sides Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sunderland, and Scottish giants Rangers will be among the teams challenging holders Leicester City (pictured above) at this year’s HKFC Citibank Soccer Sevens. The 15th edition of the tournament will be held from May 23-25 at Hong Kong Football Club, host venue since the inaugural event in 1999. Chelsea will compete for only the second time after making their debut two years ago, while the six other British clubs competed last May, when Leicester beat 2012 champions Newcastle 2-0 in the Cup final. Most of the British clubs will be fielding players between the ages of 17 to 21 as they bid to win a tournament that each year features future Premier League and international stars. Aston Villa have won the event a record five times. Despite the array of Premier League clubs on display, Leicester City Academy Director Jon Rudkin said the club are keen to defend their Cup title as they make a third straight appearance in Hong Kong. “It’s a terrific tournament to be involved in and we’re delighted to be coming back to defend the title in 2014. Winning the Cup last year was a fantastic achievement for the players involved,” Rudkin said. “Having won the Shield the previous year, to go on and win the Main tournament in only our second appearance was a feat everyone at the club was extremely proud of. The players involved in both visits learned a great deal about the format from the first time and used that experience with real intelligence when we came back last year.” Rudkin and his young charges hope they’ll be part of a newly promoted club by the time they head for Hong Kong, with Leicester’s first team currently leading England’s second-tier Championship. “It will be a very good test for our young players in a very intense environment and I’m sure it will be another valuable learning experience for them,” Rudkin said. “We have a lot of faith in our young players, who have shown in the last two years that we’re very capable of competing while playing some exciting football.” Mark Allen, Manchester City’s Head of Academy, said the Blues are looking forward to building on their debut last year, when they were knocked out in the Cup quarter-finals by Rangers and lost to Aston Villa in the Shield final. “I thought it was a fantastic experience. It was well organised and well coordinated, and equivalent to any top tournament I’ve been to. It was a pleasant surprise that it was so well organised,” Allen said. “I thought the format was fantastic and it was also great from the development perspective as well. We’re all really looking forward to coming back.” Weber Lo, Citi Country Officer and Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong and Macau, said the confirmation of seven leading British clubs signalled the tournament’s growing reputation. “We’re delighted that Leicester City are back to defend their title at the HKFC Citibank Soccer Sevens as we also welcome back Manchester City, Chelsea, Rangers, Sunderland and former champions Aston Villa and Newcastle,” Lo said. “It’s exciting to announce seven such major clubs so early and it’s recognition of the tournament’s world-class reputation that these teams keep returning to Hong Kong Football Club. Citibank is proud to title sponsor such an international tournament in Asia for the fourth year, and we look forward to another great and exciting tournament this May.” Citibank has title sponsored the event since 2011 and other sponsors this year include British Airways, Nike, Aegon and The Excelsior hotel. The remaining sides in the 16-team Main competition and the line-up of the 12-team Masters competition will be announced soon, while ticket details will be announced in April. The tournament will start with the opening round of Masters pool games on Friday evening, May 23. All the Main group matches and the remaining Masters pool games are held on the Saturday before the knockout stages for both competitions take place on Sunday. Future stars who have competed in the Main competition include Gabriel Agbonlahor, Glen Johnson, Marc Albrighton, David Bentley, Anton Ferdinand, Sammy Ameobi and Shaun Maloney. The Masters tournament has featured former England internationals Peter Beardsley, John Barnes, Chris Waddle, Teddy Sheringham, Des Walker, Andy Cole and Matt Le Tissier, German legends Jurgen Klinsmann and Pierre Littbarski, former France winger Didier Six and Finnish icon Jari Litmanen http://www.hksoccersevens.com/news/item/man-city-chelsea-among-leicester%E2%80%99s-challengers-2014

http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/9201457/green-i-was-driven-out? Former Rangers chief executive Charles Green details to Jim White the money he received in his time at Ibrox.

Former Rangers chief executive Charles Green has revealed he may still be at the Ibrox helm had he not 'been driven out of the club'. Green led the consortium which bought the assets of Rangers for £5.5m from administrators Duff & Phelps on June 14, 2012, just two days after they were consigned to liquidation when HMRC rejected the offer of a CVA. The Yorkshireman insisted he was at Rangers for the long haul, claiming he would not consider leaving 'until he had heard the Champions League music over Ibrox again'. But after a turbulent period in charge of the League Two side, he stepped down in April 2013 in the wake of a backlash from supporters over a series of controversial public comments. He returned to the club on August 2 last year on a consultancy basis 'to assist with shareholder relations and advise the company on its capital structure'. However, his second coming lasted just 18 days and he agreed to stand down from the role and sell his shareholding, at the time the largest in the company, to current board member Sandy Easdale. Now, in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, he has broken his silence on his departure, and on the terms of his pay-off. "When I joined Rangers, I was the only employee, the only director and the only investor," he said. "I was going to have the same salary as Ally McCoist but Malcolm Murray (former chairman) said that was wrong and halved it. For the work I did at Rangers, I should have had double. "Secondly, I didn't want the severance pay. I would have stayed at Rangers but was driven out of that club. "It's a matter of public record what I took from the club when I left. It is in the accounts. My salary was £360,000 a year, but I didn't take 12 months' notice. "I agreed I would take less money because I didn't want to penalise the club, but I would have happily carried on at Rangers. "The bonus was a bonus which was in my contract, and I was entitled to that." Watch Sky Sports News throughout Friday evening for more from Jim White's exclusive interview with the former Ibrox supremo.

The Union of Fans will hand out leaflets at the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-final with Albion Rovers at Ibrox on Sunday. It is understood a total of 30,000 flyers, which outline the objectives of the group, have been printed and will be handed to supporters at the game. The leaflets urge fans to register their interest in putting their season ticket cash into a trust on their official website. The Union, an umbrella group comprising six supporters organisations, intend to release the funds to the club when their demands are met. Over 5,000 Rangers supporters have so far pledged to withold their season ticket money on the Union of Fans website. And over 30 supporters' clubs from all over the world have also contacted the organisation to indicate their backing for the plan. Former Rangers director Dave King is set to fly to Scotland next week to oversee the setting up of a Trust. Elsewhere, the Union Bears, one of the groups in the Union of Fans, will stage a banner protest on Sunday. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/rangers/30000-flyers-for-rangers-supporters-154904n.23632195?

SOMERS slammed the South Africa-based businessman for releasing a series of "statements" and "innuendos" in the press - which he said were designed to cause maximum damage to the Ibrox club. Tony Nicoletti/Daily Record Dave King has upset the Ibrox board by sparking revoltRANGERS chairman David Somers last night accused Dave King of attempting to push Rangers back to the brink – and ordered him to fly to Scotland for a showdown with the under-fire regime. Somers launched the attack in a letter to King which was then made public by the club’s PR machine. He points the finger at the South Africa-based businessman – who is attempting to spearhead a fans revolt – for releasing a series of “statements” and “innuendos” which, he writes, have been designed to cause the club maximum damage. And club sources say King is now expected to explain his actions to the board “without delay”. The letter says: “Dear Mr King, the board has noted your astonishing press releases over the past few days. These statements and innuendos are very damaging to the Club, which we can only assume is your intention. “We wish you to attend a meeting to explain your allegations in more detail as soon as possible. Please confirm your availability.” King is expected to arrive in Glasgow in the next fortnight to begin putting together an assault on Somers and his board in the next stage of his attempted coup. And he has already garnered the united support of all of the club’s major fan groups. Yesterday afternoon one of those groups, the Sons of Struth, responded to the latest twist by sending Somers a mocking open letter of their own. It read: “Dear Mr Somers, the founders and supporters of the Sons of Struth have noted your astonishing club statements over the past few days. “These statements and financial decisions are very damaging to the Club, which we can only assume is your intention. “We wish you to attend a meeting to explain your performance in more detail as soon as possible.” Earlier in another eventful day, King poured cold water on internet claims that Rangers were careering towards administration again. Rumours swept social media on Sunday night that Gers would suffer another insolvency event by tomorrow – claims that were immediately denied by the club. And yesterday King added: “I don’t believe that it is likely that the club will go into administration at the present time.” King has been scathing of the board and vented his fury after learning of the deal thrashed out with investors Laxey Partners and Sandy Easdale to borrow £1.5million in the form of an emergency loan. Football Board director Easdale is taking no interest on the £500,000 he is lending – but the hedge fund will recoup £150,000 in interest for the six-month loan of £1m. And if Gers can’t pay up, they’ll be handed the keys of the Albion Car Park and Edmiston House. King believes that is a scandalous deal and has urged fans to withhold their season-ticket cash and place it in a Trust he intends to set up. By depriving the club of up to £10m, he believes the board would have no option but to sanction a new share issue, which would allow him to buy enough to have a major say in how Rangers is operated, with the backing of the support. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-chairman-david-somers-orders-3204692?
