  1. Didn't Alastair Johnson bring this to David Murray's attention when they begged him not to sell to Whyte?
  2. Always sad when youngsters get released, but hopefully they take heart from Andy Halliday's example i.e. there is a big football world out there, work hard, improve your game and perhaps you can get back to Rangers at some time in the future.
  3. In a Palace environment where they play a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 formation, you can have the creative DM and the ball winning DM. MW has made it clear that his formation is 4 - 3 - 3. This really doesn't leave much room for two DM players, particularly when we are playing in Scotland. Europe would be a different situation and I do wonder if MW will be a bit more pragmatic if or when we get there?
  4. Much as I hate to say it, I think our days of shopping in the EPL for players is over. The average salary is 30k pw (which is obviously loaded by the like of Rooney and Yaya etc) but even so, I couldn't see us being able to afford Dorrans, McArthur or Morrison. All are Rangers supporters and you would hope that that warrants a reduction in earnings, but at the end of the day, they are professional players and could probably earn double what we could pay from clubs in the English championship. Not for me, Geoff! McArthur is probably the only one who could be fulfil the defensive midfield role, the other two are more box-to-box players.Probably more chance of Ball returning on loan than of us signing any of the aforementioned EPL players. For me, I would be interested in seeing if Crooks is likely to be utilised at CB or DM, and whether this is as a first team regular or a squad player.
  5. I saw on Twitter that Luca has been released (and some rumours about a number of u20 youngsters). Has there been any confirmation of the players going? With regards to the first team squad, I would imagine that all of the out of contract players will be released (Shiels, Law, Clark, Templeton if memory serves). Zelalem and King will probably return to Arsenal and Hearts respectively. If we do win the Scottish Cup and compete in Europe, we are going to need upwards of 10 additional players (replacing the outgoing 6, plus an additional 4 to meet the playing demands). Going to be a busy summer!
  6. If teams are sitting with two banks of four, and the defensive 4 are in the penalty box, there is no room for MOH to use his pace. Just because we are back in the SPL (for want of a better description), I do not for an instant expect teams to play an open expansive game against us. It is a nice option for us (probably off the bench) but I think MOH will struggle in a right wing position. Waggy and Forester would be well ahead of him in the queue. He may be better off playing down the middle, but it will still require an open game to make best use of his attributes. On the plus side, he will have pre-season to understand MW's instructions and requirements, so hopefully he can adapt his game and become more of an asset than he has shown to date.
  7. Would really depend on our supposed interest in Dan Bentley, as I think he would be our first choice keeper (if he were to sign) and Foderingham the back up. Kelly will probably spend another year on loan.
  8. It is possibly a bit different for overseas bears. Like those mentioned above, I had bought my son the home, away and third kit since he was born as it was probably the one way in which I could demonstrate my support for the club. That changed when the details of the SD deal with Rangers became available and I reluctantly stopped buying at that time. Fortunately my son is now 17, and he is old enough to understand and quite happy that we invest in Rangers First as opposed to the club strips. If he was younger and used to getting the kits, it would be more difficult to explain. I really would be torn between supporting SD with my purchases or stopping altogether if he was 6 years old. Up to each individual to decide for themselves, I suppose.
  9. Just as a matter of interest, I note that John Eustace has just taken over as manager of Kidderminster. Can only imagine that he was never able to regain the necessary fitness levels again to compete at a high level.
  10. A lot of speculation in the South African press that Pienaar is looking to return to his homeland and sign for either Kaiser Chiefs or Orlando Pirates. Much more chance of that happening than him signing for Rangers, imho.
  11. Agreed, but don't think that would have happened under MW. I get the impression that he does provide the "father figure" image to the young players, and perhaps John Fleck would have benefited from that type of guidance. At the time, I really believed that he would be the next big thing out of Scotland and wonder if he looks back now with regret about his lifestyle choices and the (potentially) wasted career.
  12. I tend to agree iro consistency. There is a decent player with Kiernan, we saw that in the Celtic match, but last night he (and to be fair, the vast majority of the team) looked like they were playing in slippers waiting for the season to end. I had hoped that we would have learned our lesson re the weakness at corners, but yet again, we lost the first header and conceded as a result. Yes, the majority of the team are smaller than your typical hammer thrower, but Barcelona don't concede that many from set-pieces. Is it just that Spanish football is less direct, or are Barca better organised? (if Mo Johnstone says we look like Barca, who am I to argue!) I expect the like of McKay (or wingers in general) to be more inconsistent, but you need the Centre Backs to turn out a 7 out of 10 performance week in, week out. O'Halloron has had a stop-start season since joining us, but I have to say that I was hoping for much more from him. He just doesn't appear to be a happy camper at the moment. He was congratulating the players on the weekend, but it didn't appear to be with the delight that the other subs demonstrated. Maybe he is just a more reserved individual or I am being overly critical, but he really needs to kick on. As our record signing under MW we need to see him having a much greater impact. To me he would be third choice behind a fit Waghorn and Forrester.
  13. I think you can add 'out sung' to the title as well! The Rangers fans were magnificent from start to finish - over the Internet, I could not hear ' the Celtic sing' , totally drowned out by our passionate support. My son asked me if I can recall ever being as emotional after a Rangers win over them, and in all honesty, I cannot recall ever experiencing the overwhelming joy that I felt after Rogic missed their last penalty. Coming from someone who has attended Old firm matches since the early 70's, listening to matches on the old BBC world service after moving to South Africa, and in latter years, watching the match either on TV or via Rangers TV, I was absolutely choked up. When Scotland wanted us dead, the fans kept the club going, and yesterday was possibly the greatest day of my life (after my kids being born). GIRFUY Scottish football, you tried and failed and now we are back with a vengeance!
  14. I'm not comparing the team performance mate, thank god we no longer play that turgid, one dimensional football, just pointing out that Law went missing in all of our big matches. Without MoH, King and Forrester, we really don't have anyone as a direct replacement, so my guess is that Miller moves to the right, with Clark down the middle. (Just got a little bit of a sick taste in my mouth at the thought of Clark playing in this match, but at least you can be sure that he will put a shift in!) However, if Law is selected, he will get my support and hope that he proves me wrong.
  15. I just cast my mind back to last years match against Celtic, when Law played the role of the invisible man. It was a gutless, cowardly 'performance', not sure why anyone would see him rising to the occasion this time around? To be fair, he wasn't alone in bottling it, but most of those players have since moved on. (From memory only Wallace and Miller would have taken part in that match of the players still with us.)
  16. Didn't Imran bill Rangers for his involvement in the purchase of Edmiston House as part of his "but Charlie agreed to this on the back of a pack of fags" deal. Quite honestly, Rangers should have offset the entire amount 'due' to him, for the purchase of this eyesore! As always, has to be more than meets the eye with Charlie, Imran and the rest.
  17. 26th of Foot always claims Murray was a gambler like his dad, and I think that it's proven here. He took massive risks and it resulted in the downfall of MIH. And ultimately placed Rangers into the hands of a carpetbagger.
  18. The VB's are not everyone's cup of tea, however they are like a butcher's dog with a bone on all things Rangers. Respect!
  19. The most naturally gifted player that I can recall playing for Rangers. Understandably inconsistent, but on his day, quite possibly one of the most skilful players who ever graced the game. Gone much too soon, RIP.
  20. I don't think that Fraser Aird is ever going to be another Arthur Numan, but would love to be wrong!
  21. Would love to see Alex Pritchard come to us on loan from Spurs. He was brilliant under MW at Brentford and was expected to come into the Tottenham team this season, but the emergence of Dele Alli and inopportune injury has held him back. I think he is out on loan to West Brom at the moment.
  22. I see him as a like for like swap with Dom Ball i.e. cover for defensive midfielder and central defence only. Ideally, I would like Ball to spend another season on loan with us and then hopefully snap him up on a Bosman at the end of that period. Very decent player but no chance of getting into that Spurs team in the foreseeable future.
  23. I must have missed the part when he didn't walk out on Rangers! Will never welcome any of those players back at Ibrox.
  24. What about the quality of football? Because clubs have had to right-size, the level of player has dropped sharply. Currently the Scottish Premier League may be on a par with the third tier of English football, on a good day! Obviously the article is designed to wind us up.
