  1. I would agree Hutton found himself under Smith. But McGregor was already No1 when Smith came back. Adam was consistently played on the left of midfield out of position. Burke never established himself under Smith, the closest Burke came to that was under McLeish.
  2. When Smith came back he went out and bought David Weir, Christian Dailly and Ugo Ehiogu. Why? We were never going to see any sort of return on them. Like you said we were 17 pts behind, the league was gone. Could we not have given an 18 or 19 year old a chance and say “here’s your big chance” Wouldn’t have cost anymore money. Smith wasted millions of pounds. So for that matter did Advocaat and McLeish. Yes we were competitive. Yes we won stuff. But we need to get to the point where we are self sufficient and producing good quality youngsters on our own and only signing the odd player. Otherwise what is the point of Murray Park? I also think McCoist needs time. We need to support him. I only commented because you were discussing Le Guen 
  3. When Murray, The Medical staff and some of the players refused to back him. He probably figured it wasn't worth the effort
  4. Probably not and I guess we'll never know. I will say though he was the only one who tried to change things in that period. He said himself he had a 3 year plan.
  5. I was a fan of PLG. I believe that when we let him go and brought back Walter Smith it set Rangers back years. Yes he was stabilising influence but that wasn't what we needed at that time we needed strong decisons to be made and to see them through. PLG needed time and he needed Murray to back him even if it meant a couple of years of winning nothing we would have been in better shape at the end of it in my opinion.
  6. I will admit I don't have any real knowledge of how any of this works but how I see it is: In 97/98 Joe Lewis got 25% Rangers for £40 milliion which would value us at around £160 million. In 2000 or so Dave King got 5% for his £20 million which values us at £400 million. Then in 2001 Joe Lewis sold his 25% back to Murray for about £10 million when Rangers were apparently £80 million in debt and Murray had to do the share issue. I don't know what to make of Dave King. Perhaps he did it because he loves Rangers but from a purely business view that chain of events seems nuts
  7. He might've put money into Rangers and thats great. But he stood idly by and let Murray and Whyte run us into the ground. I'm curious though what did his £20million buy him? Not shares anyway or any real say in what was going on. He claims to have owned 5% but was that even true? If I was investing that sort of money I would want a bit of power. The ENIC guy got 25% for his £40million.
  8. I would disagree, is it really asking too much that we have a manager who fits the earlier description. We should have coaches/managers who are able to take ok players and make them good, good players and make them great. Rangers have not done this for a long, long time. Rangers should also be able to go out and get ok prospects and make them good prospects through training and coaching. Rangers have not done this for a long, long time. We are only doing it now because we are being forced to. I can't tell you how many times I sighed when we went out and signed players like Beattie, Ostenstad, Bernard or Maniero. Had I been a young player at Rangers during these times I would be thinking how shit am I? If I can't get a game before these guys and then to make matters worse we would then spend even more money paying these guys off
  9. I'm happy about the appointment of Smith it gives Charles Green a huge endorsement. I don't want him to have anything to do with running the team though his time in that respect has past. We need to be looking to the future
  10. McCoist won't leave Rangers if he quit the managers role he'd get a similar job to Smith.
  11. Not sure about this but perhaps some of the more financially minded on the forum will know. Usually when a club are in Hearts position then you would expect them to go into administration that would allow them to restructure debt etc. Then come out of administration hopefully in a healthier state than when they entered. However with regards to Vladimir Romanov what happens if he just says "f**k it" and liquidates Hearts because he seems to have lost interest in them. Then sells the assets off at his leisure Can he do that?
  12. It was a good result for them and will probably get them Europa League at least.
  13. I'd say it was our most successful era though. We made 3 European Finals and won 4 trebles.
  14. Could you not do 4 or 5 seperate pictures? For Example: 1872 - 1914 - "The Gallant Pioneers" 1914 - 1945 - "The War Years" 1945 - 1979 - "The Golden Era" 1980 - 2012 - "The Modern Era" Doing it like this would enable you to get most peoples favourites (hopefully) ;-)
  15. Rangers have the facilities to make a system like this work. But as other posts have already suggested not the scouting network or dare I say the coaching staff
  16. Does Chris Woods not still hold the world record for the longest shutout? Which he achieved when in goal for us Sorry it's a British record
  17. Jim Forrest had a great record for us in the 60's. Iain McMillan as well.
  18. Ray Wilkins he was one of the brains behind Ancellotti's Chelsea
  19. I can't believe the report that appeared on c4 actually passed for a report it was so stage managed it was unbelievable. c4 needs to have a long hard look at itself
  20. I'm not just talking about McCoist though. Smith, Advocaat, McCleish and Le Guen all had the same problem it has just got progressively worse
  21. Rangers used to be able to buy someone that was ok and make him great. Rangers have lost this as the years have gone by. Something is far wrong with the coaching system/techniques at Rangers apparently Murray Park is one of the best complexes of it's kind in this country. Yet we have players who look seriously out of shape. If you look at the players in the EPL the players at the big clubs look like athletes ours don't. Why is that?
  22. He admitted to fraud last week during his BBC interview. When he said he knew administration/ liquidation was virtually unavoidable when he bought Rangers but he still used the money from Ticketus to finance it
