Match Preview Schedule - Volunteer to write a Gersnet Match Preview
Juancornetto replied to Gribz's topic in Rangers Chat
I've been mega busy at work since coming back after Xmas etc but I'll take a few matches to fill up the schedule a bit: Jan 25 - Rangers v Arbroath - League 1 (Will have it up tonight) Feb 15 - Ayr United v Rangers - League 1 Mar 08 - Rangers v Airdrieonians - League 1 -
I think that's a pretty good first XI mate. The only places / positions I would tinker with would be the strikers, Jon Daly needs a rest but with Clarke and Little injured we don't have a lot of options.

I wasn't making a definitive statement Calscot just putting my observations out there. If my view that players don't seem to develop and push on at Rangers is wrong, perhaps you could give some examples of players that you think have benefited under McCoist, Durrant and Macdowall? Players that have improved in fitness, skill or who've become better tactically. Taking it a step further, perhaps you could identify some areas of our overall game and style of football which have developed or improved under McCoist and Co? Have we mastered corners yet? Is the hit and hope lofted free kick our only training ground "move"? The training schedule in the image could be a red herring or merely a snapshot of a much wider training regime for players but to my mind it's probably pretty accurate and as the saying goes "put in what you always have, you'll get out what you've always got".

Golfers union! I don't doubt there are positive effects of a constructive hobby like golf but, will it make you a better footballer? Only fitness and technical ability training can do that. Nobody seems to improve at Rangers, they come in and stay roughly at the same level as they always were, no great strides in ability or skill. Maybe that's down to our training schedules and methodology?

There's six and a half hours of training on that schedule, from a Monday match day until Sunday....I wonder how many hours of golf are squeezed in? I'd bet more than six and a half hours a week.

The hate came from one section of Scottish Football, and from one club. Eventually it spread to other clubs with an axe to grind with Rangers but it has been and was driven by Celtic "fans". This is their legacy.

And why would we pay the football debt of a dead club if we were a new club?

Make no mistake, it's no co-incidence that the BBC wheeled out Spiersy to whip up a frenzy in fact it's a very well rehearsed routine now for Celtic's PR attack dogs. Within 24 hours of a story with potential negative repercussions for Celtic surfacing, the lunatic fringe around town begin to spew their distasteful trash. We had a (another) claim that Rangers were going into admin two broadly discussed but that didn't take root and deflect enough heat and so, somewhere in rural Ayrshire the telephone rings and a socially awkward buffoon with enough psychological baggage to fill an aircraft hangar picks up the phone "Hello" - "Graham it's BBC Scotland here, we want you on Sportsound immediately to tell some lies and get it right up the Rangers"... "OK then, I'll be right there"

I've seen him play and from what I hear about him he's got a really good attitude and trains hard. I know that goes for nothing if you don't have the skill or talent to match but Canada are giving him a cap to keep him as a player before they lose him to Scotland or wherever else he ends up playing. They must think highly enough of him to bring him to a camp and to be fair Canada would probably beat Scotland just now. You nailed it when you said about players ahead of him being signed and on good money...says it all for me. A wee bit of trust might have paid off and now we'd have a good young centre half with a season and a half of experience under his belt.
-
Pity he's at Stirling Albion on loan
-
If we're not careful we'll lose him to a Canadian or MLS club... the boy is good enough clearly so should be either playing or on the bench for Rangers with the carrot of a start if he performs when he gets the chance.

Comparing goals scored and results over a season is all well and good but it doesn't address the crux of the matter. Rangers went into Div 3 with a playing squad and wage budget more than 10 times that of the biggest spenders and more than the entire 2nd and 3rd divisions wage budget put together. Of course we couldn't have just discarded the players we were left with but post TUPE all of them should have been on the market and as many as possible moved on, loaned out or asked to take wage cuts We could have picked up a few more youngsters to add to the current crop. The best performers were the youngsters, Aird, McKay, McLeod, Hegarty and co were the only real highlights of a turgid first season in the lower leagues. It's not a Utopian ideal to have wanted Rangers to grasp the nettle and build a squad and a football philosophy to be proud of. We've been using a sherman tank to crack a nut never mind a sledgehammer.

I see...to be honest I'm an Ally fan but honest enough to see his limitations as a coach rather than a manager. I just don't think he (and Durrant etc) are the right people to compete with "them". If he goes, after winning promotion to the Premier then he'll have taken us as far as he can.

Another 5 or 6 years with McCoist then?
