Rangers run risk of three-year Euro exile if they lose tax case
bluebear54 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Allan I think we need to cut costs as well. It's an issue that every Scottish club is facing. The good news is that - pound for pound - we have a lot of quality. I think we could afford to offload a couple of high profile players and still be very competitive. We also have our youth programme now seriously bringing through some great talent. The long and the short is that we realise that we have huge problems to face. The Tims realise - and overemphasise our huge problems - but are not facing the bleak future that they face.- 20 replies

Rangers run risk of three-year Euro exile if they lose tax case

I'm leaving the tax issue to those have more knowledge on these issues than I have. Regarding the media, it wouldn't surprise me if what is getting out there and how it is portrayed is not all it seems, and I would imagine that CW is pulling more strings than we think. Could be that "balanced investigative journalists" like Andrew Smith - who after all, are not all that interested in getting out of the office/home to either balance, investigate or even perform any journalistic function - are being used in this present end game. Wouldn't that be be a gas. Phil, Andrew, Keevins and all the rest have been scammed into printing what we want them to. Anyway, back to Andrew Smith, I agree with Zappa that AS has huge history in gushing about Celtic. In that case, it's surprising that he chose to talk about the Rangers tax case yesterday instead of talking about the catastrophe facing Celtic regarding their present squad and technical and corporate management. In my opinion, and from what I can gather, Celtic are in a very dark place. Damned if they do and damned if they don't - on many fronts. Most importantly , they don't have a united fan base. They are split, and have big agendas that will not go away. We have very interesting times ahead this year. I hope CW will steer a firm course, and hope that our anchor holds strong.- 20 replies

Great thought from Big Lafferty. Shows the team spirit that we have. Hope Naisy's going to be OK and, for his sake it's not as bad as it sounds. We'll miss him sorely.

There are outrageous reasons for UEFA having got involved and us being punished. Perhaps a high volume of complaints and evidence about Sellik should be directed toward UEFA. There again, UEFA only deal with European games.

Yeah Zappa. Noted this today too Bizarre when the crime of thought is punished more than physical assault. I do think a lot of this will even itself out over time. Sheriff's are a notoriously fickle breed, but still subject to ECHR notions of proportionality.

GovanAllan makes a fair point. We all know who started all this - and how they loved it when it was open season on us. The backlash on this Bill has only started in earnest when they realised that they were going to be targeted too - which they are, and will be. The days of the IRAoke are drawing to a close. What they want now is a return to the grey area they had before. Shout the loudest, be offended the most. Write to UEFA, FARE etc etc and call the sectarian card, while remembering to play the "it's purely political" one. Nope. Pandora time. The box is about to open, never to be shut. Lots have said it. Reap what ye sow. Or in other words, those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

I've been realising recently that it's not delusional. It's obsessional - they really want The Rangers to die so that they can have a free run at winning everything forever. Quite absurd, 'cos if we weren't around in Scotland, Scottish football - including CFC would slowly die. But before that, that lot would find new enemies in whoever was beating them. It's a schooling thing. If you win, you deserve it, 'cos you're better than everyone else If you lose, you're a victim, you don't deserve it and it's somebody else's fault. On slightly the same subject, anyone looked at page 3 of the FF thread on Charlie Mulgrew?

Well, there's an equally valid argument says they cheated NIAR by having a non-Sellik-minded manager!

Agreed Ian There seems to be a blurring of issues here. Am I right in understanding that: 1) CW has directed Rangers to withdraw cooperation from the BBC, however Rangers are not suing the BBC. This is a Rangers matter. 2) CW is suing the BBC for personal defamation. This is not a Club matter, and CW will be pursuing this and paying for it personally. (Although as Ian pointed out, the BBC had Rangers - not CW in the title.) We as fans should be careful not to blur the issues. On a related matter, the Scotland part after the BBC news last night must have had a five minute segment from the documentary as it's lead story. Quite honestly, I don't think Lockerbire got that long a slot. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

First thoughts are - great - we've grown a set, and it's about time. Second thoughts - all these totally neutrals at my work think it's total paranoia - after all the Beeb is totally impartial. Third thoughts - I just hope we've got something cast in iron to make our case. Seems to me like we need some incontrovertible kind of evidence that will allow real journalists to dig their teeth in, dig deeper, and take a serious pop at the Beeb. Otherwise, I can see this blowing up in our faces. I hope not - but I worry ..........

BBC Investigative Documentary on RFC/Craig Whyte confirmed

Hi Zappa - Point taken and sincere apologies. For the very first time in my life, I didn't look at the big picture. I'll follow your suggestion in future. -

Zappa, more often than not, you talk a whole load of sense, but occasionally you are prone to kite flying. Governments are not in the business of openly, nor discretely, making undercover TV programmes to indoctrinate the masses. At least not in Scotland. What does happen, however, is that elements of the media have their own agenda, and are much more effective than governments in the art of propaganda. KDS thread on this is illuminating. So is our "friend" Phil's input into all of this. And that is input into a state sponsored media organisation! As for me - I long back to the days when it was all about football. But it was never really like that - was it, or was it? However, we're approaching a point where football in Scotland will be totally destroyed by this petty insane internet driven nonsense that has nothing to do with the real elements of the sport. And after all, when you take the sport element away, we are left with the bare bones that remain. -

Rival fans team up in bid to stop anti-sectarianism bill
bluebear54 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Yeah. Heard it - shocking. -
Bet there will be precious few references to "Third placed Celtic." Can't wait for Rugby Park. Great result for us today. Getting close to the point where it's only ours to lose. :spl::spl::spl::spl:

Although we give them money, the police are answerable only to themselves. They should be acting in fair and proportionate manner, and upholding the law and protecting the public. However, the stewards are employed by the Club. Surely the Club are able to dictate what parameters should be employed when stewards are carrying out their duties. In my view that means that we are either not communicating our viewpoint to the security company or its something altogether more sinister. There are plenty of companies around. If it were up to me, I'd have KPIs in place and make sure that the security firm knows who's boss, and how they should be going about their business.

Rival fans team up in bid to stop anti-sectarianism bill
bluebear54 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Pretty interesting this. I do have a suspicion that this Bill was all hunky dory while it was intended to target us. I think the alarm bells started ringing after John Lamont made a comment about separate schooling, and its role in sectarianism in Scotland. Also, the ongoing debate that followed made it clear that the IRAoke should also be addressed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there has now been a noticable amount of backtracking these past few weeks - particularly in the press. Speirs is now totally against the Bill - although he was all for it when he gave evidence at the Justice Committee - and despite his manoeuvrings, his comments are on public record, including that stupid and crass comment about thought crime. Waiton, of course, has no part in this agenda. He is purely a neutral libertarian and has his own agenda - and all strength to his arm. What is laughable in all this is that the whole agenda was raised by Celtic and the RC/Irish descent community. But that same community is now hellbent on backtracking in fear that this Bill will not be in their interests. So once again they are driving the agenda, but they have changed their minds. My own view? Let's have this Bill, and let's have an even playing field. No more grey areas - just black and white. Otherwise, we will continue with the present situaion where it's us who will continually get bad publicity and attacks on what we sing and how we are all bigots. The other alternative is to let Celtic win the league for the next few years, and at least we'll get some peace and quiet. Interesting times ahead. -
