  1. It's a question of the tail wagging the dog. The driving factor is the self styled "Irish/Catholic" lobby. In my opinion they are the most powerful, most organised and most motivated political force in Scotland today.
  2. With all due respect, BD and GS, these are your opinions, which I respect. I also made mine and have no need to discuss it further. If it's what I think it is, it'll be the yearly do for recognition of various bodies and individuals. Nothing to do with politics. But don't let that stop a good boycott.
  3. It's not us they're raping. It's the Company. We merely fund it. And yes, I think there would be a big backlash if there were to be another administration.
  4. Yes Andy - I've read that too. He does a lot of good work. However, mixing politics and charity work is misguided at the least. Is he talking for all involved and all the beneficiaries? What's the chances of some of the beneficiaries having opposite political views? There could be fall out. And it will no doubt fall on Rangers, not the charity.
  5. I trust your optimism BH. I'm aware that our friends across the city are already lobbying in this area. Come the time there will be skewed press coverage, an avalanche of letters to the SG and the usual suspects will be wheeled out again to give academic credence to the party line. I'm just saying we should be vigilant. Just in case.
  6. I agree with you SA. However, no matter how much fuss is kicked up, I don't see the OBaF Act being repealed. There may be a threat of amending it and we will need to be vigilant to make sure it is not returned to its original intention which was to be focused on us. I mentioned on another thread that there is a real threat that corroboration will be done away with in Scots Law. That would have a huge impact on the policing of football supporters.
  7. Well said Andy. Pandora's box is well and truly open. The GB/FAC can protest all they like, but they will be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming as will we. TBB is gone and won't be back. Our lawmakers and enforcement agencies are slowly accumulating all the tools they deem that they need and will have no intention of giving them up.
  8. If we think things are mad now, just wait until corroboration goes out the window as is proposed. Things will suddenly become a whole lot worse.
  9. Is "Secondery" a new type of classification for schools?
  10. OK. Let's have some names of high profile business people - or big companies - that don't engage in tax avoidance.
  11. Spot on Calscot. We're going through a fundamental shift away from newspapers as the primary source for decent Club news. The interesting question is what will be the source for Club news in - say 20 years time. It's encouraging to believe that it would be from the likes of here and TRS instead of the likes of our present media in Scotland.
  12. Is it normal for a newspaper to be informed of a listed company's confidential financial status before it's shareholders and the relevant governance bodies? I'm just trying to work out how much credence to give to this piece.
  13. Lord, the Record is so crass. That layout should be in a horror museum. Do you have to do a PhD in Extremely Bad Taste to be so crass? If the content is as badly thought out as the layout, I won't even bother reading it. I actually tire of this. If DK wants to inform the fans, he knows full well how to do it. He should never have given KJ his PA's PA's number.
  14. Our problem though is that there is so much scrutiny that even a scent, or a perceived scent of the "offensive" lyrics will create a furore. It's a stirring song - even more so the verse, which we've never done. You never know. If we concentrate on fancy dancing elsewhere, it might lead to a new version of its own accord. The last thing we need is a pukey watered down version. The song needs to shout that confidence and bravado.
  15. Hey Zappa If you're desperate enough, I'll be happy to put my shoulder to the wheel. If it's OK, is it fine that I do Stranraer on the 25th of this month?
  16. I see your point SC, but the reality these days is about wages, and I seriously doubt that Celtic or Rangers will be in the market for a team full of £25,000 per week players anytime soon, if ever. Despite careful media manipulation, Celtic are undoubtably downsizing. As a matter of interest, do you remember the 3-2 Lovendkrands final in 2002 between us and them? Despite Timothy's crap about our financial doping, the number of ca £40,000 per week players on the pitch was staggering. I don't see that scenario coming back.
  17. Partly right Pete. My suspicion is that we also have a media that is only too happy to leap down upon us for any perceived transgression. If I remember correctly, the corduroy cowboy was pretty instrumental in the campaign to rid the world of the dreaded TBB. Added to that, we face an army of keyboard warriors who are only too happy to write letters, blog or generally exert hateful pressure in a desire to see us harmed and ultimately killed off. So, I think we need to learn some nifty new dance steps.
  18. I have no doubt whatsoever that what we read about transfers in newspapers is utter gobshite. The greater part is invented and manipulatively thrown out there by money hungry agents - whom I would be perfectly happy to have propped up against a wall. Figuratively of course. A large part is also construed by the media, feeding on the scraps of information they are fed, and eager to maintain their sales and their belief that they still bring "news" to Joe Public. In between this unholy alliance, we have the Clubs, who alternate between basking in the afterglow of receiving the news that they are linked with Player X, licking their lips at the thought that their latest 17 year old sensation is worth 15 million, or testing the media with another lure in order to drum up season ticket sales. As an example, CFC take this to high extremes - witnessed recently when they were linked to Zlatan Ibrahimović yet wisely changed their mind in favour of that Griffiths chappie. Why we lap it up - or even more, believe it - is a sublime mystery I have yet to get to the bottom of.
  19. From talking to a few Hearts supporters they seem to be pretty motivated. I'm pretty sure they will get good crowds next season. By the way, those I have talked to still see us as sinners and themselves as victims, which I can't quite get my head round.
  20. Give Keevins his due. All this "new Club" guff seems to be forgotten. However, I certainly don't feel I'm "having my intelligence insulted" by feeling a sense of achievement by winning three trophies. Given where we were, and how our squad had to be totally rebuilt from new, I think we've done remarkably well. The truth is that I regularly feel my "intelligence is insulted" when I come across red top articles like this by hacks who could produce much better had they cared to improve their skills over the years. An article after a quasi Le Penseur moment and a whisky is certainly not journalism. It's a blog - and these days, Shug, people do that in their spare time.
  21. I would think that, you're correct dB. For example, despite Celtic's numerous transgressions (laughably, more than us) I have yet to have sight of any communications from UEFA to the Club. I'm sure they will exist - UEFA are big on threats and on painting a picture for the future (politically, it strengthens their raisin d'être). However, it would appear that their fans - let alone the media or the general public - have never had sight of these. This despite the fact that recent run-ins with UEFA have been sectarian in nature.
  22. I wonder what our away crowds will be like when we return to the top tier.
  23. Agreed Andy. I didn't mention him because the whole thread may have diverted and that's not what it is about. Problem is I can't think of many others, and none have his kudos.
