  1. DAVIE WEIR will be given the chance to extend his astonishing Rangers career. SunSport can reveal Ibrox boss Walter Smith will seek contract talks with his veteran skipper on his return from the NARSAR convention in Las Vegas. And it's understood the ex-Scotland ace, 40 last month, will agree terms on a new one-year deal. Weir would have called time on his playing career had Smith quit. But after watching his mentor commit for 12 more months, Weir is now willing to follow. Smith rates Weir as the best pro he's ever worked with and with continued speculation over the futures of Madjid Bougherra, Danny Wilson and Kirk Broadfoot, he's seeking cover at centre-half. But it seems unlikely striker Tommy Smith will join Weir at Ibrox. As SunSport revealed, Gers tabled a £300,000 bid for the Portsmouth star this week. But skint Pompey laughed out the offer and sources close to the deal insists Gers are unlikely to return with a new improved offer. Ibrox chairman Alistair Johnston has revealed Gers delayed a crucial meeting with Lloyds Bank until they qualified for the Champions League. Cash-strapped Gers were summoned by the bean-counters for showdown talks over their £30million debt. But Johnston dodged them until he knew how much cash they'd earn next season. After securing the SPL title and a place in the Champions League group stages, Johnston was in a stronger position to agree a deal with Lloyds. He reckons relationships between the parties have never been better and said: "Getting into the group stages of the Champions League made a huge difference going into our meeting with the bank. There was no point having that meeting until we knew for sure where we were going to be, so we scheduled it for the day after the season ended. "Our relationship with them is a lot better this year."
  2. Think he's played about a dozen games, nearly 2 full games both against Dundee Utd. Late on from the bench other than that I think, apart from his short spell when he started against the scum then came off injured. He's played in a few positions as well so the guy needs to be given a chance, he's had a few starts for NI which will also help him. Far too early to judge him IMO.......
  3. really, i've not met anyone that wants him he's OK but not a player who I think can improve us and not someone I would like at the club.....
  4. In their hayday both were decent players with Campbell being the better. Both are now past they're best although I think they would do OK up here but both won't be busting a gut (maybe they won't need to), both are very injury prone, both are a bit erratic to say the least and both will be earning a small fortune. I for one wouldn't want them in my team and definately not on the wages they would be probably be on.
  5. would you take riordan before the likes of nugent ?
  6. I like nugent as well but I think £1.5m has been quoted before with Bolton leading the way seemingly !!
  7. RANGERS have been told Tommy Smith will cost them £2million - and are ready to switch their focus to his Portsmouth strike partner David Nugent instead. SunSport revealed yesterday that boss Walter Smith is chasing Smith to bolster a strikeforce which has lost Kris Boyd and Nacho Novo. Pompey need to raise £15m to stave off liquidation. But administrator Andrew Andronikou values Smith at £2m and Gers aren't keen to spend so much on a 30-year-old. They are now ready to reignite their pursuit of long-time target Nugent, who is certain to quit. Smith tried to land the England hitman three years ago before he left Preston for Portsmouth in a £6m deal. Nugent, 25, has endured a nightmare on the south coast and spent most of last season on loan at Burnley. In an added twist, out-of-contract Kirk Broadfoot could be heading in the opposite direction. Pompey have joined Blackpool in the hunt for the Scotland stopper and will hold talks today. Gers have offered him a three-year contract on improved terms but he has yet to give an answer. From the Sun................
  8. http://www.rangers.co.uk/articles/20061111/rangers-2-dunfermline-0_2254702_34644 I remember seeing Smith scoring in this game and being MOTM. This was shortly before he sadly got injured and was never the same. I disagree he was a 6 or 7 man and I thought he was going to go on and be a great left back for club and country. He was attacking and excting as Hutton was on this showing and other games before. I wish him all the best at Norwich........
  9. Well done, i forgot so many times to do the gersnet one......... Me and my work mate won the thing on 219 points and got nothing from the BBC, all they've asked us to do is give an interview for their site!!!
  10. I'm sure they mean QPR in these articles and surely papers up here would have it if it was us that agreed personal terms.
  11. he couldn't hack it at a bigger club than Hibs already so why do you think he would cut it with us? i'd say he has a free role and is more attacking than naismith and has played more but has also had a few stinkers I have seen. not one person i can think off has a good word to say about him, that can't do him any favours but it looks like he won't change so why anyone would want him really is beyond me as he's not that good for anyone to take such a big risk on........
  12. Naismith is a better all round player than the likes of Riordan IMO. Riordan is much more incosistent than Naismith and doesn't seem to be well liked as a person. I would hate to have the likes of him at our club.
  13. Celtic could exploit a Uefa loophole to sign Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley for nothing. (News of the World)
  14. silly season we'll be linked to everyone in the next few weeks i'm sure............
  15. could be a lot worse.... if we can keep those players hippo said and add say 4-5 others then we'll have a squad of about 20 then add another few youngsters then it's not looking too bad, well it still will be for the pessimists but nothing new there
  16. I thought he had already signed for Birmingham, quite a few on here were so certain of that were the not :fish:
  17. I don't think we're shocked or I am not anyway. For me it works up here for him as in he scores more than the rest that won't happen in the EPL, he'd be a rich man playing for us along with winning medals, playing in europe (ok maybe not), he could become a legend here but is going for more money and playing in a better league so i can see that side as well and maybe he's bored up here but he'll be going to a much lesser team. i'm certainly not devastated as no player is bigger than Rangers, they all leave sometime, i'm just sad to see him go just now as his goals still helped us win the league last season and the season before, if he never done as well in the first half of last season we wouldn't have won the league this year.
  18. I know it's a better league but playing for a lesser club which is where he will/would go it can't be that good. You won't win as much, not playing in Europe regularly, and as you say you might not play as much. You get the likes of Fletcher who signed for Burnely and done well, now Wolves are bidding £7m for him so again he will be struggling at the bottom of the league next season but getting paid good money. Maybe they think they will get to a top 4 club down there. I suppose everyone is different but I just don't understand how you can leave the club you say you love, are top scorer, adored by lots of fans, get paid a fortune to it but still feel you need to leave mainly for more money.
  19. I was thinking along the same lines, but if does go purely for another £10k a week then good luck him, he won't win medals where he goes just now but if he's happy getting richer than he already is then there's nothing anyone can do. I mean £1m a year playing for the club you love and having a chance to be a real legend, I don't really understand players sometimes!
  20. exactly people are just posting or passing on what they have heard which is what happens on a message boards right, it can be both good or bad but when it ends up personal it's not doing anyone any favours. say your point and your opinion but leave the rest out of it. :box:
  21. did i mention dado? i mentioned players who i thought were some of the worst players to play for us if you read the posts. all i've said was I think velcika is a decent squad player, he's not better than boyd, miller or even lafferty but he will score goals for us given a chance IMO.
  22. The CL is all we can offer him that he might not get at this stage of his career......
  23. so it's what they've done in their careers right sorry never seen that anywhere. ostenstad strike rate was pretty poor everywhere 1 in 3 or 4 games he's been i would say especially for blackburn and us he was woefull. jeffers was even worse his strike rate even for everton was poor, he never scored for us either and has scored 5 goals in 54 games for sheff wed great return and i'm sure he'll be on a good wage still. Guivarch was a bit better for a few teams before he signed for newcastle then us but again wasn't great and he looked terrible when playing for us.. sebo again done ok to start with but his last 3 teams he's scored about a dozen goals in over 100 games eek saying all that i don't really care about what players have done in their career i only care about what they've done or do for us to be honest and none of them were any better for us than velicka, sebo 2 goals, jeffers 0, ostenstad 0, Guivarch got 5 but played more games.
  24. very good player who i'd love to sign for us but i'm sure we'll be linked to quite a few players in the silly season
  25. boooooooooo c'mon say what you really think :fish:
