As I said, Hill's header wasn't great but at least it was in the right direction ie away from goal. Halliday's 1st touch is straight back towards the goal & not strong enough to reach Hill or Senderos. The Morton player's wee flick effectively takes the CB's out of the equation. Why did Halliday not play the ball sideways, away from the Morton players for Hill or Senderos to run onto. He had zero awareness of who was around him & made a terrible decision which allowed his 2 CB to removed from play. Halliday then started to pull up, until realising that the Morton player had continued his run. by that time it was too late. You can't blame Wes...he at least got a touch to it - unlike the rest. The entire goal came as a direct result of Halliday's terrible 1st touch & lack of awareness. Could the CB's have done better - Yes, but they were not the root cause of the goal.

What would you rather happen??? Spend notable cash to bring in a good quality manager, at the expense of some of the player transfer budget or Cut price manager, but maintain to full budget for bringing in new players

Still Halliday at fault for me..... Hill's head ain't great, but Hallidays 1st touch is awful, and releases the Morton player. You can clearly see that Halliday starts to pull up thinking his job is done....then realises that the Morton player is still running. By that time, Halliday has lost his man & in no position to make up the ground. Is is totally unable to offer ANY kind of challenge to the Morton player. You could argue that Senderos was too close to Hill, but it should have been taken care of by Halliday. Wes makes a decent attempt at the stop and appears to get his finger tips to it. If it was us that had scored it, we would be saying that the keeper had no chance - it was a fantastic strike.

If it didn't specify EPL, I'd have suggested Kriss Boyd I bet it's someone who was a complete flop for us....

As we are at the moment, we're not attractive to investors - there are no signs that we are improving & therefore going to generate a return on their investment. Bluenose investors, may not be bothered about a return, but wealthy bluechip investers certainly will be.

Everyone is talking about the finances.....how we need more money. Yet we are being seriously challenged domestically, by clubs that are operating on considerably lower budgets than ours. How are they doing that??? Folk don't want D McInnes as the next manger, yet Aberdeen are currently sitting above us in the league, with a game in hand and Hearts only 6 points behind. These teams seem capable of bringing in players of a decent standard without bursting the bank.

I think its more down to our defense switching off...almost thinking "He's too far out, he'll never sco.....oh sh*t"

It would appear that MW had made in-roads with regard to the Academy side of things, implementing a joined-up strategy etc. So it's now up to the board to analyse what has been done, and is it a suitable base to continue to build on. As for the signing, I think MW did bring in a few signings with a view to resale - Windass, Crooks, Rossiter, Dodoo.....but they will never increase in value if they aren't in the shop window. Out of them we've only seen Windass with any regularity, and his performances have been somewhat inconsistent - that must be addressed & developed, otherwise he is just another young player going no-where.
-
I think 35yrds out is pushing it 25 maybe. It was, however a fantastic strike & Wes wasn't too far away from it, unlike Halliday.
-
Halliday, lost his man and couldn't catch him - he got caught napping!!! I actually thought Senderos had a decent game & think that given a couple of games will form our most solid defensive pairing with Hill. I also think that it may be time to give Miller a wee seat on the bench....We MUST start trusting in some of the younger prospects.

A DoF might be a good way to go. Put them in charge of all the admin-type stuff, and let the coach get on with coaching....

On a £500k investment....that's no a bad return. How many players have they reportedly sold for around the £10m mark recently??? When was the last time we sold a player at that level??? Think back to Tore Andre Flo (2000-2002)....bought for £13m, then sold to Sunderland for £6.75m (although it was originally reported to be £10m). That is the kind of business that has been common place for decades.
-
This is not a recent (5year) problem...it has been there for a lot longer. Look at Garner....bought for circa £1.5m, we'd be lucky to get £250k for him. Look at Dodoo....bought for £500k, we'd be lucky to get £250k for him. Throwing money at the problem is not the way to sort it. Hopefully the Academy is back on a better track now & wee will see some talent emerging soon (year or 2), but we need to be better prepared for that happening. We need to deal with it smarter. We need to be smarter with player purchases other wise we will simply end up with much more expensive failures.

I think there is an issue that is bigger than simply getting a new manager. For a number of years (pre-whyte/green), I believe the club as a whole have been under performing. Yes, we have been winning games/cups/leagues, but the Club as a whole has not really advanced. When was the last time that we brought in a player, improved them, then sold on for a decent profit??? We tend to get decent players in, let them run out their contracts then release them cos no-one will buy them. Case in point being Joe Dodoo....when we signed him, he was being touted as a £8-9m player down south - we got him for £500k due to cross-border rules. How many clubs down south would realistically pay more than the £500k we bought him for??? We have brought in several managers over the years, and spend a lot of cash on good players, yet strong performances in Europe are still elusive - the last memorable performance being in 2008 (I think). Over the past couple of years, we have brought through some young players - most of whom are no longer with the club - yet how many of them actually brought ANY funds in??? I think the board MUST take a wee step back and look at operations as a whole, and develop a more robust strategy that is going to actually enhance the club going forward. Any possible signings MUST offer the club something beneficial. Signing 30-something year old players is great for experience, but they have ZERO resale value - it is difficult to classify them as Assets. As a result, our team is next to worthless. There needs to be some background infrastructure in place for ANY new manager, as to how we are going to better manage our assets. It needs to be made clear to any new manager that wheeling & dealing is part of life nowadays & that they have a responsibility to be a part of that ie. produce player performances on the pitch that will create interest in them. Where there is interest, there is profit. I think we need to get more of our young players out on loan further afield than Paisley or Greenock. Wee need to get these young guys in the shop window. Get them down south, or abroad and get them playing and performing as much as possible - generate interest in them. MW spoke about protecting Bournemouth's asset (Emerson Hyndman).....do we do/expect the same when our players are out on loan @ Cowdenbeath etc??? We only need to look across the city at some of the young players that they have brought through. for many there is probably no long term future at Ceptic, but they will most likely move onto other teams for heavily over inflated prices - they are ASSETS. There is simply no point in bringing in a new manager, then doing things the same way. If that is the case, it will take decades before we are back to being a true force in football. There will be years when we win a league or 2, or a couple of cups, but we will not be the dominant force we once were. In this day & age of football, Cash is king and we need to be generating more than we do. Ceptic are bringing in huge sums of cash from the Champions league, but on top of that they are performing well in the transfer market - buying low, selling high. We need to up the ante considerably.
-
Why would ANYONE want to forge a Hearts ticket????
-
Gives all the ceptic fans opportunity to talk about their specialist subject....
-
Walter Smith would be the last name on my list....It is a massive step backwards. Many folk would be singing his praises this week, then complaining about his style of play next week & how the players don't suit a 4-4-2 formation or a long ball.
-
That'll be cheerio then.....
-
Thank F**K.....a decent central defender at last
-
If there is clear evidence of a higher offer, then D&P were negligent in their duties.
-
re. the shares... From memory, once the company went into administration, did the administrators not assume control/ownership of ALL shares & assets - hence why they have the power to sell everything.
-
Dodoo is one player that kinda vexes me.... We he not touted as being an £8-9m player down south - we got him cheap due to the cross-border development fee. Straight away the plan should have been, get him in the team and keep the interest from down south, then punt him on for a healthy profit. We can't do that is the lad isn't playing.
-
And the result at the end of the season will hopefully be RFC in 2nd place. It is also kinda unfortunate that Ceptic are playing some of the best football for many years. I think regardless of how well our team was currently playing, there would still have a sizeable lead at the top.
