I think the discussion over whether it works or not a simple Yes or No asnwer. On the one hand it IS working as fines are being handed out & action is being taken. On the other hand, the actions being taken (in ceptic instance) are not deterring future mis-behaviour. However, under current Scottish rules, not action would be taken, so whether the system works 100% of the time, it could be argued that it is an improvement over what is in place just now. The effectiveness would increase with harsher penalties.

How is the Strict liability working on other clubs throughout England & Europe??? Are Ceptic the exception to the rule??? I think another question has to be asked as well. With the latest fine being imposed, what are the SFA/SPFL doing about it. Surely this constitutes bringing the game into disrepute??? Players/managers can be reprimanded under the "Disprepute" banner for making comment(s) etc, yet continued misbehaviour of Ceptic fans in Euro competition doesn't contravene this. Does it come under the "reasonably practical" scenario, whereby under Scottish rules, the club did everything they could to prevent the actions of their fans, therefore the SFA/SPFL are powerless. I would still think that being on the receiving end of 10 fines in 5 years, is clearly bringing the Scottish game into disrepute. As for whether whether Strict liability works, it is clear in Ceptic's case that it is not acting as a deterrent, but then again nothing seems to deter certain sections of fans - this applies to our fans as well. How often have we heard banned/dubious song being sung, even though they have been told not no??? In the case of Ceptic's fines, they have been fined often enough for the same offence, that tougher action should be taken. Why this has not been the case can only be answered by UEFA.

These are the result of strict liability....how many sanctions/fines have they received from the SFA/SPFL for similar behaviour??? In this case, I don't think it is the implementation of the rule that is the problem....it is the sanctions imposed for breaching the rule. 19k Euro is probably a weeks wage for an average squad player - not exactly gonna financially ruin them. Just heard on the news....They've been hit with ANOTHER fine of £16k for fireworks agains Man City.
-
Would it be remiss of the Board, not to make contact with Ranieri??? It is highly unlikely that he would be interested, but the chance of eternal glory (in the eyes of RFC fans) & going directly head-to-head with Brenda might interest him. Wages may be an issue, but I'm guessing he is already a very wealthy man. Transfer budgets (again) may be off putting, but IMHO a good manager should be able to bring improvement regardless of budget.

De Boer would be an excellent appointment in either role. Would also be good to get Numan back in some capacity.

Nearly impossible to say for certain...we don't know how the players will react to new coach etc. I maintain that there is a decent team there, It's getting them to show it on a consistent basis thats the problem.
-
The 2 are not mutually exclusive.....when the players actually play 1/2 decently. If we have the ball, the other team can't beat us. One our main problems has been that we can't keep the ball, which then highlights massive defensive issues, which is then compounded by the fact that we can't score. That is more down to player performances than a particular style of play. MW had been trying to get a common philosophy going throughout the club - that of free flowing, possession football. If that changes, then the past 18-months have been another complete waste. The playing philosophy is 100% independent of the Manager/coach - it is their responsibility to enforce the philosophy. Again, this should be made well clear to any potential DoF or head coach - prior to appointment. The philosophy also doesn't restrict to a particular formation either...it's more about how they move the ball about, rather then where they stand on the pitch.

Agreed.... Keirnan is just making FAR too many errors & poor decisions. Maybe a longer spell out of the squad will make him buck up his ideas - I think he has some talent there to make a pretty good CB, but he certainly hasn't been showing it.

They can't win, can they.... Club1872, put out a statement confirming that they have listened to members concerns & have opened dialogue with SR with a view to resolving these concerns. - they get criticised. Club1872, listen to their members & spear to SR but don't release statement - get criticised. Club1872, release statement revealing all the details discussed with SR - lose trust of club & criticised over the information released. Club1872, don't put out a statement - they're doing nothing, get criticised. As Der Berliner mentioned above, the club are now well aware that a major shareholder is watching & questioning what is going on and that fans are getting restless.

IMHO, the DoF is responsible to the administrative side of the footballing. He's the one who looks after the contract negotiations, performance Ethos, scouting, internal structure, wages etc. He is also the one who makes sure that the Head Coach is doing his job properly and coaching in line with the club performance ethos. The role of player identification/signing may vary from club to club. It may be that the Head coach goes to the DoF & says "we need a new left back"....the DoF then scouts & recruits accordingly. Alternatively, the Head coach may well identify the replacement player, with the DoF then negotiating the deal. It may well be a combination of the 2. Ultimately the 2 people involved MUST be able to work very closely together due to there being obvious overlaps in job function. I think the main difference could be summed up as: DoF - wears a shirt & tie Head Coach - wears a tracksuit
-
Given the time taken by the board over the DoF & head coach appointments.....for their own sake it better be someone up to the task, and someone impressive. If after 2 weeks searching, interviewing & discussing, they come back with the likes of McLeish or the like, there are gonna be a lot of angry fans out there. I would hope that they have taken their time to identify the best possible candidates available for the required roles. Also during discussions, they have made it plainly clear to any proposed candidates exactly what is expected of them from day 1.

Murty had said pre-match that Keirnan had "trained like a beast" all week an had earned his starting spot. However, he didn't specify which beast....I'm assuming a sloth

Oh dear..... The defeat, I can handle....it's the way it happened that is the problem. What really gets me: we are getting seriously pushed/challenged by: - Teams with budgets that are laughable by Rangers standards - Players who we deem "not good enough" to play for Rangers - Managers who should never darken the RFC managers office Yet, these players & managers are consistently getting the better of us. Something MUST change & the Board must surely see this and act accordingly. I don't know whether it is to to with the players, recruitment or how the management go about their day-to-day business, but it's broken. Watching that "team" (and I use the term very loosely), they hadn't a clue what they were doing - I'm sure on more than one occasion players actually tripped over each other. Players were constantly out of position - Tav being one of the worst offenders. I lost count of the times he appeared more in left mid than right back. This obviously left a massive hole in the defence for Dundee to exploit. There was absolutely NO cohesiveness. We played with 3 strikers recognised on the pitch, yet still didn't threaten - our only goal being a massive surprise, either because we actually did score, or coz it was scored by Garner. I would have loved to have heard what was said in the dressing room immediately after the match, and certainly on the bis back home.

That's why I though Dodoo in place of Miller....JD just bagged a couple during the week, so should have a positive attitude & willingness to prove himself. Miller has been useful, but we need goals, and Miller isn't the most prolific in that dept.
-
I think Senderos will stay @ CB....he's been less of a bombscare than Keirnan of late. With a wee run of games, he will improve. I would like to see Dodoo start...I believe he bagged a couple of goals for the U-20's, so could be worth a shout in place of Miller.

McInnes may offer a slight improvement....is that what we want though??? Are Aberdeen performing any better than they have done is past seasons - No....therefore you could argue that he hasn't really improved them either. We need to aim high with the new appointments. A well experienced DoF is 1st.....someone who knows & understands the current game, inside & out. Then it's up to them to identify a suitable head coach (or what ever title they will have) who is capable of implementing the DoF vision. Where would you see McInnes fitting into this model??? Does he have the experience/knowledge of the wider UK/European game that we need?? Would he be a DoF or head coach?? The likes of McInnes or the "experience" that Hearts have with Levein & Cathro are fine for domestic stuff - they are happy to simply get into European competition. RFC on the other hand want to get into those competitions are have a seriously good run at them - we need someone who can make that happen again.
-
We really should be aiming considerably higher than McInnes.... He's doing a decent enough job @ Aberdeen, but has he really taken them forward any. What are their European prospects/record??? We need someone who can give Brenda a run for his money,,,,,McInnes simply hasn't done that.
-
From memory....the SFA/SPFL were virtually powerless in the charges that could be brought against Hibs due to NOT having strict liability in place. Hibs simply pulled out the "We took reasonable measures" excuse.
-
The League Managers Assoc. is an English based organisation.....how much do they know about the Scottish game and Scottish employment law etc??? Their MW Profile, pretty much ONLY covers his time @ Brentford.
-
I would imagine the DoF would logically come first. The DoF is ultimately responsible for ALL footballing operations within the club & would therefore be responsible for appointing a 1st team coach/manager. It is vital that the 2 roles get on & there is clear lines of communication between the 2.

Ibrox Faces Rates Rise - Guess Who Gets a Discount?
Darthter replied to StuGers's topic in Rangers Chat
So...even though they have the largest Stadium, reportedly "highest" attendances & the highest turnover, their rates go down???? Doesn't make sense.... -
That would indicate (If it happens), that it is less about the actual rule/law and more about who is enforcing it.... Strict liability is already in force throughout Europe & in England - Scotland is one of the only places where it isn't in force.
-
I've no issue with Murty remaining in charge just now. They idea was to have the same philosophy though out all levels within the club. Therefore, Murty should be versed in a similar, attacking style - hopefully he can execute it better than MW though. I don't think they will want someone to come in & start introducing a completely new way of working. Murty's had the week working directly with the players.....if he does ok, I'd keep him until the end of the season.
-
I actually think the current squad have a good level of skill....it's just that MW wasn't getting the most out of them on a consistent basis. They have shown, on occasion, that they can play really well.

A good manager will improve things without spending a penny. A good manager will greatly improve things by spending modestly, but wisely A poor manager will spend greatly, with ok results
