Interesting thing in that article, he spends the 1st half berating Beaton for not sending off Wes.....all the while saying it should have been the linesman's call - couldn't make it up.
  2. I disagree with the Warburton part.....I think he did bring about a very notable change in playing style, which when executed properly was a force to be reckoned with. The problem was that he didn't have the "full package", he lacked the ability to apply subtle changes if matches weren't going according to plan. PLG, tried to implement change, but I believe that the players at the time, the Club and many fans, we not open to accepting that change, adapting very much a "siege" mentality - "This is how we play, this is how we've always played...". However, the game has moved on and the Club as been through some drastic changes which have encouraged people to embrace the change & adopt a more forward thinking view.
  3. Don't see that as a problem either. We need someone to come in with fresh ideas. Someone that's not bogged down in "this is how things are done in Scotland" Just because every other team do things a certain way, doesn't mean we should follow.
  4. The fact that they have taken other jobs, to me is a sign that that as far as they are concerned, their employment with RFC is terminated. I would imagine that if you are in the middle of an employment dispute, you can't simply go and take another full time job.
  5. Also, both Weir & McParland have moved onto other jobs, which would indicate that they accept the situation as being accurate.
  6. Possession, high tempo, short slick passing, always looking forward/attacking - putting the opposition on the back foot. Ultimately it wasn't executed at all well in the top league, but hopefully the new boss can continue with that way, but be more adaptable to the developing situations.

If the new Manager is available to start immediately, then why not?? Murty ain't going anywhere, so will be available to look after & prepare the team in conjunction with the new guy - almost like a 2 week hand over period.
  8. From memory, Le Guen was trying to go down a similar route to MW, but there was resistance to the changes - they were so far a head of the Scottish game at the time, that many didn't see the overall benefit. The game has now progressed,so the adaption is much more natural now.
  9. In the recent games that Senderos has played, I've thought he's been considerably better than Kiernan. Yeah, he's made a few mistakes, not nothing as bombscare-esq as Kiernan makes on a regular basis.
  10. I think it is a safe bet to say that McLeish knows and is comfortable playing a particular style....one that is more focused on simply getting a result, by any means required. If that means 10 players behind the ball in order to achieve a draw, then so be it. Walter Smith employed a very similar philosophy. I have no idea on Pedro's playing philosophy, but hopefully (whoever) comes in, likes to do things along the same roads as MW - I think the overall philosophy was excellent - but can implement it better and in a more adaptable manner. The problem with bringing back a previous manager is that you know how they operate, therefore you lose that sense of excitement etc. Plus all the other teams know how they operate.
  11. If he was doing so well...why did they sack him??? I'm not saying he is not right for the job, but I just don't see the huge appeal for someone who has a managerial career that spans 2 clubs, neither of which were much better then mid-table English Championship - is that the standard we are to get excited about?? Yet McLeish gets slaughtered even though during his time at Rangers, he had a 65% win ratio and even with a couple of club disasters, has an overall win ratio of 46.3% (827 games) compared to Rowett's 42.3% (248 matches). For the record, I am not an advocate of Eck either - he's had his time. Now is not the time to be looking at rookie managers.....
  12. What makes Rowett a much better option than Caixinha??? According to wikipedia, he has managed 2 sides - Burton Albion & Birmingham City. He has managed 248 matches with a win rate of 42.3% (don't know how this compares to Caixinha). He was sacked from Brum in 2016 with the team sitting 7th in the Championship.
  13. my biggest problem with Caixinha is pronouncing his name.....
  14. Kiernan clearly went in with legs straight, into the Saints players heels - definitely NOT the worst tackle you'll ever see, and not one that could be classed as "dangerous" to the saints player, but I think clear red...it was needless. Can be seen here at the 1:10 mark
  15. Talk about a "Get out of Jail" card.... Missed the 1st 30 mins, but was impressed with the rest of the 1st half. 2nd half we started well, but I thought our performance dropped notably when Miller went off. This got me thinking.....While I am not the biggest fan of Miller re. his strike rate, I did wonder if we missed his "leadership" on the pitch??? Almost as soon as he left the pitch (64mins), our performance dropped & Saints scored (74mins). Could Miller maybe be a more effective Captain/leader than Wallace??? Once again, I felt Kiernan had a major effect on their goal....if he had stood strong, there is a very good chance that it would have been blocked. I think he knew this as well - he was sent off 4mins after their goal - I think he was trying too hard to make up for his mistake. To me it was a clear Red card. While not the most "vicious" of tackles, he did lunge, straight legged into the back of the Saints player & was very late - an easy decision for the Ref. Thought that McKay, Waggy & Hyndman all had excellent games - all seemed keen/hungry to receive the ball & make things happen. So far, Garner has done nothing to indicate that he is a prolific goal scorer, and didn't think he brought ANYTHING to the team when he came on. Time to give some of the other strikers that we have a wee shot, whether that be Dodoo or some of the youngsters. Felt pleased for Murty, he's been thrown into a position, he really doesn't want to be in & is doing his best. At least he now has a win against his name.
  16. Anyone know the current odd for McLeish, Davis, McGee, McKay etc becoming the next Barca boss??? Surely managers of this pedigree would stroll into a job like that.....
  17. so the DoF brings in a coach, that suits his playing style, then that's it...leaves him to get on with it. Couple of months down the line, team not performing, so the DoF blames the coach & gets someone else. I see it as a very fluid relationship - While the DoF is the "higher ranked", they should effectively work as a pair......a team, in order to get the best results on the pitch. The DoF should be able to give an unbiased view on player performances, unlike the coach who is working with the day-to-day. This was shown recently when Murty commented that Rob Kiernan "trained like a beast" and strolled back into the starting 11, then had his usual very sketchy game. The DoF should be able to step in and ask "Why??".
  18. I disagree (no surprise... ) The DoF is expected to oversea the entire footballing structure of the club. Should he not be the one that sets the style that the various ages/teams play??? In order to achieve that, he must be in very close contact with the various coaches. He needs to ensure that the style etc is being applied correctly. At the same time, the coaches must feel comfortable enough to approach him to say, "this ain't working, that ain't working" and there fore tweaking methods and training structures in order to maintain the preferred style/philosophy. I don't believe that there is the clear cut difference between the 2 roles that many folk are implying - there is a lot of overlap...if you want the structure to work properly IMHO. Part of the DoF job is to ensure that the coaches are doing their job, and therefore should have some say in the squads that are being picked. Picking the squad is primarily the head coaches responsibility, but I believe that the DoF should have some input into it.
  19. It's amusing how Mark McGee immediately appears on the bookies lists - There ain't a hope in hell of him EVER getting near Ibrox for a job!!!
  20. Qualities I feel we need for the DoF & head coach roles: - good communicator - Proven Tactical knowledge - Command respect - Effective training methods - Ability to identify errors & adjust accordingly - Clear vision of how the team should operate - Clear vision of the type/style of play to achieve team/club goals Now, he's the thing....many of these traits apply to both positions. Therefore, both roles must be able to work VERY closely together in order to achieve the stated outcomes. Stuff like tactics should be discussed regularly between the coach & DoF - whats working & whats not. Team selection should be discussed weekly before a match - the Coach should be able to clearly justify to the DoF why any one player is in the team. That's not saying that the DoF decides the starting 11, but he should be consulted and be given the opportunity to question the Coaches decisions. Ultimately it will be the DoF's responsibility to ensure that the team is playing in a particular manner (ie. winning), therefore he should be able to question if/why an under performing player is regularly included in the squad. Who should be doing the jobs - I've no idea, but I think a balance of Old head/experience for the DoF role, with a younger head coach seems the most likely option.
  21. Agreed.... An indication of what is actually happening wouldn't go a miss either ie. "We have held initial interviews with 2nd interviews immenent, with a view to announcement within xxx days"
  22. What kinda makes me laugh a bit is that they are reporting with certainty that the interviews are happening, yet not a single name has been put forward as to who is interviewing & who is being interviewed. Surely, that shouldn't be beyond the realms of any 1/2 decent journalist??? These are the same journo's that can get hidden tape recordings of top secret meetings that allegedly never took place, between 2 guys who never met. The very same journo's who can get access to highly confidential Gov't files/information relating to major, on going investigations & court cases. Yet are totally unable to find out about meetings taking place for a vacant job.....
  23. Personally, I think that there are 2 options.... 1. Accept that refs are human, and makes mistakes & are relying on split second timing to make a decision. or 2. Give them access to ALL available technologies in order to ensure that as much as physically possible, the correct decision is made. In this case, the video evidence clearly supports the technology, and highlights something that the ref & linesmen clearly missed. An incident like this for Rangers would have Superscoreboard in the melt down for weeks!!!
  24. Oh, the irony.... We are crying out for a DECENT SPL CB, never mind a good one!!! McGregor would be an automatic pick in the current squad....
  25. Allegedly he's resigned from Clyde.....
