I think we need more "impact" from the midfield.....we need them to take control of the match more and dictate play. Guys like Krancjar have the ability to play fantastic football, but he doesn't appear to have the legs to do the running, therefore we have to try on his skills to distribute the ball well, and allow others to do the running. Pena also get talked about almost as another striker - he's not!!! he should be linking the midfield with the forward 3 & providing support more just outside the box. I think Alves should at least be in the starting 11, but I believe he has been fit, but not started under Murty. Miller should consider himself luck to make the bench - I think he's just far too comfortable as a guaranteed starter.

Nothing against loan players....but as others have said, why get them & not play them??? Looking at the info in the original post, it would appear that substitutions are reactionary, rather than preemptive. If something isn't working....why wait till the 72min before making a change??? Also, changing like for like isn't going to have much effect if the overall strategy isn't working. I think there are decent option available - are we honestly saying that Dundee have a more talented/better squad than us? - but the sub options need to be utilised better.

Rodgers has ZERO top end experience as a player, and only a couple of years playing for much lesser teams - his Professional playing career was over by age 20, yet he has build at good reputation as a coach, and obviously getting results across the City. Also remember that he hasn't actually brought in that many players since arriving - he has mainly taken the players that were there & turned them into a cohesive unit. Whoda thought Boyata would be one of their best CB's - he was terrible under the last guy (who signed him) As I said, the key thing about ANY coach regardless of the sport is being able to accurately get your info/plans across to the team/players. In some cases, experience can actually be a hindrance ie. "This is how I did it 20yrs ago/always done it....so we'll do it again now". Being separated from that potentially allows for a more analytical & critical view point - rather than accepting that "This is how it's done at all football clubs", it opens the door for "Why??" On the flip side, it could turn out to be a complete mess......but then again, having experience doesn't negate that possible outcome.

Here's a left-field thought.... Why does our next coach/manager need to be an ex-player??? There are many, many examples over multiple sports where some of the best coaches have (in some cases) never even played the sport. In other cases, they have played at much lower levels - Brenda Rodgers being a very topical example...Pro career ended through injury @ 20yr old. The key to being a successful coach is not always personal experience....it's an excellent understanding of the sport & an effective delivery method.

Whoever it is that comes in, the 1st thing they need to do is identify the best formation/system to use that is going to get the most out of the current players. the general performance level HAS to increase immediately.

Windass has 17 apps, with 4 goals...slightly lower than Miller on the goal scoring, but i'm sure his overall contribution stats will be notably higher.
-
Pena has made 8 apps this season, scoring 4 goals.... Miller has made 11 apps this season, scoring 4 goals.... One is a striker, the other is a midfielder....

What a load of waffle.... Continually talking about "knowing the team is under performing" etc, yet nothing as to how the players are going to change that. Constant references to no manager being in place - from a players perspective, Murty IS the manager. Saying they didn't let the manager down against Hamilton....ridiculous!!! "Bored" talking about inconsistency..... Time for Kenny to shut up, step away & let the team start developing.
-
I'd be more concerned about Miller actually GETTING a 1st touch, never mind what he does with a 2nd.
-
Surely one of the best ways to combat that is to play him??? Also, It keeps him in the shop window for potential buyers. If he's not paying, we can forget about clawing back any of the original fee.

League Cup Final in Pro-Celtic Refereeing Shocker
Darthter replied to StuGers's topic in General Football Chat
In Sinclair's own words...."I felt a tug on my arm and I went down" So the challenge apparently didn't have any notable effect on him, Kipre's challenge didn't bring Sinclair down....he felt something & hit the deck. I would like to think that the Compliance Office will take Sinclair's comments into account & issue retrospective punishment....I'll not hold my breath though. -
Aye....they have seen the submitted CV's & shit themselves

Pena is also more of an attacking midfielder, rather than a striker. Miller is a striker who appears to want to be a midfielder as well. I'd play Pena over Miller any day.

If he's scoring all the time in training....does that not imply that he's training well....and therefore indicates that players are not being picked based on training performance???
-
Our problem is that the way the team ARE playing, isn't working or isn't good enough. Maybe, with a different approach, it will bring out more of the current players.....
-
but....what he's saying is true!!! Who was the last player who actively though "I'm going to get on the ball" and actually did something with it??? Over the past few years (not just current players), we have seen all too often, players appear scared to receive the ball & be productive - we should change the team name to Cinderella FC. I watched the 2 PSG demolitions of "them", and the one thing that struck me was the PSG players were confident receiving the ball, regardless of the situation...they were actively looking for it even though there were opposing players round about. IF they lost it, they fought to get it back. Barcelona a few years ago were exactly the same, and dominated games. I'm also not talking about any fancy trickery here either....they would simply receive the ball, protect it (if required) then allow other players to move into improved positions. A simple pass then made to a team mate. Soooooo simple, yet effective. For far to long, we have struggled with performing the basics - short passes to a team mate, then move position. I mentioned in another post about simplifying the team/game....I still think that is what is required. Let defenders, defend...strikers score....wingers, run the touchlines....midfield, distributes. Players should be 100% clear about the role required of them, passes & movement should be basic, simple....move the ball about quickly & accurately. It's not rocket science or Grand Master levels of Chess...it's Football.

you reckon he'd last 18 months???

Who's to say Herrera & Pena aren't good footballers, but it's just not working out for them at Rangers??? There has been countless examples of players arriving at a team with an excellent reputation, never to fulfil it, but rediscover it when they move on. Personally, I would prefer to see either Pena or Herrera in the team before Miller.

One problem is that there appears to be an awful lot of folk/fans who think they can run the club better. As you say, the current board is made up of some very successful business men, who know how to run a business & make money. AJ was on the board of Oldco.....brought in because of his contacts, with a remit to help SDM sell the club - that didn't work out too well.....
-
I have no issue with the current Board staying in place (the C1872 poll seems to support them), however I think they do need to clarify EXACTLY what they have been doing to date & their expectations moving forward. They need to convince the fans that they are indeed the people to take the club back to the very top of Scottish football.
-
That's partly the point I was trying to make....we have lacked aggression for ages. Bringing in the likes of Dorrans & Jack, should have gone a long way to addressing that, but it hasn't....the issue is still there regardless of personnel.

Are we maybe over complicating things on the pitch??? Listened to a lot of chat about last weeks game (didn't see it myself), saying that Miller was spending too much time in the midfield areas, rather than up front - this could of course isolate Morellos, and great holes in our attacking line. We also talk a lot about wingers abilities to track back & help defend (on a regular basis). What happened to keeping the players roles simple??? If your a striker, you stay up front, winger - forward & wide, defender - at the back etc. By making each position "multi-purpose" are we not making it more likely for positional faults to come into play - Remember the old adage "Keep it simple, stupid" (KISS). K Boyd got constant stick for lacking in certain aspects of his game (which is true), but he was a striker & he scored (a lot of) goals. Over the past few years we have had McCoist, McCall, Warburton, Murty, Caixhina & Murty (again), all take on the managers post and we've need a boat load of players come & go in that time.....but we are still seeing the same issues time & time again - silly mistakes, stupid dropped points, not enough consistency, questionable fitness levels, poor finishing, sloppy passing, slow tempo, sluggish mobility.... I think it's time to take a step back, and look at the bigger picture. Football is not a complex game - score more goals than the opposition. If we have the ball, they don't. Get players doing their proper jobs, rather than trying to get a sparky to fix your plumbing.
-
It is a bit disheartening, but everyone is saying that on one hand they don't want the appointment rushed and proper research/due diligence carried out, but on the other hand they want someone in place immediately (or quickly) From what I've ready, the application window only closed on Friday. Why they kept it open for 3 weeks, I don't know, but I'm sure there will be a reason behind it. We have to believe there is a process, and it's being followed. Hopefully at the end of that process we will get a manager that can be successful in the job.

Ruth Gilfillan was booted down three ranks over Rangers 'banter' claim
Darthter replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Nope....The "rise" of Tories in Scotland is due to the complete collapse of Labour. Until recently, Scotland (as a country) was a solid Labour strong hold - no other party got a look in. This is mainly due to our working/industrial background - mining, ship building, steel works to name a few. The Labour party represented those people. Then the Tories started closing down the industry, and Labour's numbers started declining (but in small numbers). Then Labour just went into complete melt down & no longer represented the needs of the workers. As a result, voters looked else where. -
Would that be a bad thing???
