  1. Wasn't the case with the EBT stuff.....the updated laws were applied retrospectively.
  2. I took cg's comment to possibly refer to daily operating costs, out with the playing side of things. ie. We pay £100 per day for electric....but bring in £75 from merchandise (very simplified example). Did he not also comment that there was currently about 25% more staff than would normally be required at this level in the game and that he could run at a profit by the end of the week, but it would resemble a bloodbath?????
  3. They're not in the SPL/SFA.....their own organisation will most likely do everything they can to assist.
  4. difference being....we actually have 10k fans...
  5. I think it would be quite amusing.....
  6. Top notch defense - "It wusnae me guv..."
  7. I think the team needs to perform better.....too many lapses, and in general making it difficult for themselves too often.
  8. Anyone heard whazt's happening with Dorin Goian??? Last I heard, his loan was being cut short and probably returning to Glasgow during the Jan transfer window.
  9. I'd take him back in a heart beat. say what you like about his work rate, but the guy knows where the goal is & that's what wins you matches!!!
  10. There will always be meaningless games - even in the proposed new structure.....what about the teams sitting at the bottom of the top league of 8 - what do they have to play for??? no relegation, and those at the top will probably be too far in front for them to make any difference. Same with the 3rd league of 8 - those sitting at the top won't get promoted. I agreed with Frankie....I don't think in the grand scheme of things the league setup is going to make a whole lot of difference. There will always be meaningless games (in terms of promotion/relegation etc) and there will always be a number of overly dominant teams. What gets me at the moment is that a number of reports are suggesting that reconstruction is the only to ensure a fairer financial model - can that not be changed independently from league structure??? I would suggest: - 2 leagues of either 18-24 or 20-22 - cap on gate prices across the board...£15 max possibly - fair distribution of sponsorship cash across BOTH division - Playoffs....either 2 or 3 automatic promotions/relegations, with another 1 or 2 playoff positions a nice simple structure which everyone understands and can follow. Then folk can focus on the pitch - work on the product, not the delivery vehicle.
  11. I think there is /has been more scrutiny on our transfer activity over the past couple of years due to financial restraints....we simply haven't had the cash to buy in a dozen players with the hope that 4 or 5 of them are successful - EVERY PENNY HAS COUNTED. With regards to Stella (and M McKay recently), the management & scouts have obviously seen enough of the players to feel that they could offer something to the team. Neither player cost much either via purchase price or wages, but they still cost money with could possibly have been better spent elsewhere. I agree that a lot of it probably comes down to the quality of the scouting. In the past we have tended to pay high & sell low. Do these valuations come from the scouting staff??? With regards to Stella in particular, I think the lad has been REALLY unlucky.....from what I know, he's mainly a left sided attacking winger. This season, we've had Temps, McKay & Aird all doing REALLY well on that side of the pitch. I do think it might have been worthwhile giving that guy a bit of game time though....if he doesn't do anything then fair enough.
  12. I think that's a weeeee bit harsh. Stella is just another to be added to the list. From memory, the only stand out signing that McCoist has made so far is Templeton. Cribari, Faure, Argyriou, Black and Kyle have so far not really stood out. I would say there is still hope for Sandaza after the last performance. That's just been this season. You could then add Matt McKay to the list. When you consider that we are not in a position to carry excess baggage, making the right decisions on players is imperative.
  13. That's due to the rules rather than opportunity. We currently still have an opportunity to qualify for Europe via the Scottish cup - how long would it take in Engerland to get that opportunity??? If we were to make it to the Premiership, up against the likes of Man U/Man C/Chelsea etc....how long would it take us to build a team capable to challenging them for the Euro spots????
  14. Agreed.....there is no need to over complicate things (as they are doing). I suggest going with a simple/basic league structure, as you've highlighted, then start concentrating on what is happening on the pitch & how the money is fairly distributed, not how many teams are in the league.
  15. The big problem with moving to Engerland.....Will we EVER see European football again??? What are the chances of winning silverware???
  16. Agreed....a panic buy if ever there was one. As someone pointed out on another site.....we're sitting comfortable at the top of the league with a 19 point cushion - why not give him a wee run out, and see how he performs with the "big boys". He was apparently doing pretty well in the reserves.
  17. From the Official site Another player brought in, who seemingly does well in the reserves but doesn't get a sniff @ the 1st team. Is he any better/worse than those that have been playing??? We'll never know....
  18. The wouldn't listen!!! There was a poll on the SFA website a few months back.....I believe the option put forward by the SFL was miles ahead in the poll - results ignored Henry McLeish recommended a top tier of 10 - recommendation ignored.
  19. drop due to the loss of Gers.... Not mentioned on DR website, but found it on Scotzine site (albeit they say SPL ranked 17th )
  20. According to a snippet in the DR today, the SPL is ranked as the 24th strongest league in football out of a possible 125. based on that fact you may think "that's no too bad at all....maybe the game he isn't as bad as we're making out". However, last season the SPL was ranked 15th on the same list - a drop of 9 places in one season. Well done Doncaster & Rhegan!!!
  21. You can't win... When Green commented on the 12-12-18 setup, he was slaughtered for not offering any alternative.....now he's slaughtered for offering an alternative & trying to disrupt the process!!!
  22. I think Jonathan Watson's New Year only an Excuse sketch with Craig Whyte would fit Rhegan perfectly (adapted to suit...): "I said I would make Scottish football history....I have.....it is!!!"
  23. The SPL/SFA have said that by going to a bigger league setup ie 16 or 18 teams, there would be more meaningless games per season.....this being the case, what does it tell us about the thoughts on the "new" 3rd tier or National division. The National division is planned for an 18 team league, therefore a number of meaningless matches. This tells me that the powers-at-be have no interest in the lower division, and are once again looking after their own interests, rather than the interests of Scottish football as a whole. Gordon Waddell posed some interesting questions in todays Sunday Mail:
  24. A full reset of ALL points - that would make things more interesting!!! Do we really think the SPL would go for it???
  25. bonus.....
