  1. McCoist just can't help himself......pulls on a Gers top & scores
  2. The big problem is that we don't appear to be spotting anyone early....even those within our own academy. I'm sure there are plenty young players - Nicky Clark as an example - that have bags of potential, that are already playing within the Scottish senior game. however, at times our management seem to prefer going the "exotic" route - marquee signings if you will.
  3. If we spot them early enough, there is no reason not to get young talented players in.....even if they only stay a couple of seasons, then sold on for a profit. McCoist is referring to known talented youngsters who could command a reason price, we need to get them before they have developed a reputation.
  4. I opted for Jig.... Never been a fan of his, but this season he has shown what it means not only to be a rangers player, but to be captain as well. He has lead from the front. Mcleod has been the surprise of the season. He got his chance to show what he can do, and he certainly did that.
  5. McCoist has done NOTHING with the squad of players that he has.....giving him a large transfer budget will change nothing. Dean Shiels is the perfect example....up for SPL player of the year last season, he's been rank rotten this season (for the most part). McCoist doesn't have a TEAM of players, he has a group of individuals playing together. I have always maintained that a a team of mediocre players will do better than a group of talented individuals. McCoist appears to want the latter, when there is nothing stopping him having the former.
  6. Jog on Mr Naismith.....actually, probably best not - probably pick up an injury...
  7. While listening to Super Scoreboard last night, there were a couple of callers talking about Ceptic season tickets, and how they were being moved due to part of the stadium being closed. The reason fro the closure was falling attendances!!!! Anyone heard any further confirmation on this....or are the "greatest fans in the world" keeping it quiet.
  8. I don't think there will be any problem with him paying the fine. If he doesn't, the SFA would take him to court, as they are currently doing to Whyte.
  9. Clearly keeping players on £30k a week wasn't feasible.....what annoys most folk though, is when they come out the woodwork later on saying how hard it was to leave etc. If they REALLY wanted to stay that much, they could have or at the very least done the "right" thing for the club & allowed at least a minimal transfer fee - They chose the route that suited their personal short term goals - why not just come out and say "The Newco couldn't afford to pay my previous wage, so moved to a team that could..."
  10. Valid reasons why the Club may not want him transferring over. How much money he was getting per week & the clubs financial situation aren't really the players problem. The player made the decision not to TUPE over - he could have followed Edu/Goian/Boca and TUPE'd over then transferred or loaned out....but he chose to walk.
  11. So what stopped him staying??? It was HIS choice not to transfer over to the newco.....
  12. The only one I would definitely take back from that list is Novo - get him back in a player/coach type role. The guy ALWAYS gave 110% for the club & it clearly means a helluva lot to the wee man - as such I think he'd be an outstanding role model for some of the younger players.
  13. So what happens when all the CG/CW stuff blows over and stability is returned to the boardroom (whenever that happens).....what if we're still discussing the managerial prowess of McCoist??? Obviously there will always be folk who don't like or support the manager, but discussions about McCoists managerial ability has been going on for the best part of 2 years. We are not talking about his devotion to the club - that is unquestionable - but we are talking about football matters and whether he is the best person to lead the team forward. I REALLY want McCoist to succeed as manager, but so far he's not looking particularly convincing.
  14. In essence, what your saying is "lets see what sort of player McCoist buys when he gets the chance"??? To me that is not the mark of a good manager. A good manager should firstly be able to get the best out of what he has (good or bad) - McCoist certainly hasn't done that since the game against Motherwell early in the season. Performance levels have been VERY erratic. A good manager should have an eye for fresh, young talent & know how best to nurture that talent in order to produce a quality player - Difficult to judge McCoist on this...plenty of youngster have come through, how many have shown marked improvement??? A good manager shouldn't need to over spend in order to get a good team - Motherwell & ICT being current examples....McCall & Butcher have had a fraction of the budget of McCoist, yet are still putting out good teams. IMHO, the transfer embargo has really shown what kind of manager McCoist is/will be - he will try to buy in possibly known "quality" players, who will most likely produce mediocre results. Once the embargo is lifted I don't expect to see a great deal of youngsters coming through the ranks.
  15. The "top" clubs (term used very loosely), made it clear that they didn't want or need us in the top league - Scottish football was fine without us. Based on that, we should work our way back up, because that is what was deemed "best for the Scottish game". This is something I firmly agree with - look at how the 3rd div side have benefited from playing us this year. This will only continue through Div2 & Div1. We are bringing much needed revenue to the REAL teams of Scottish football, not simply the "elite". this has to have a wider reaching, positive effect on the Scottish game. Any fast-tracking will be simply based on the financial gain of the SPL clubs and the SPL as an organisation, not for the greater good of Scottish Football. We will play our way back to the top, and show the rest exactly why we were, are and always will be the best in the country.
  16. Did the SPL teams not try something similar @ the start of the season????
  17. Rhegan & Dumbcasters resignations would do that....
  18. Darthter

    Poty

    1/2 the 3rd Division defenses....
  19. who's starting the whip-round for his wages???
  20. I'm not generally a fan of signing aging ex-players......however for wee Nacho, I would make an exception. The guy obviously loves the club and I always found his work ethic 2nd to none - could prove an excellent role model for some of the younger players. Nacho Novo - player/coach!!! Get it done Coisty....
  21. Why are we looking to copy what some other team has done??? While I agree that there are many teams around the world that could act as a reference, as others have pointed out there are a lot of factors that simply don't apply to us. We should be gathering info from other successful clubs, then using that info to develop our own system/setup which in years to come will be looked at & copier by others. The important thing is to have the right people to oversea the whole project - something we don't have!!!
  22. absolutely priceless....classic example of "spitting the dummy" In fairness to the Ceptic players, they probably have played well, but they are probably just playing to expectations. The players that are on the shortlist have played well above expectations & that has been recognised by their fellow players. The part about withdrawing from the PFA is also laughable....it is not the PFA's fault who does or doesn't get nominated. Ii is voted for by all members of the PFA organisation. Shiels' comments about the managers is spot on as well. With the exception of the CL, Lennon has actually under performed - depending how things go, he may only end up with the League title. Butcher, Adams & McCall especially have all performed well above expectation this season.
  23. The 2 most likely go hand-in-hand..... It would be an interesting experiment to see an SPL team (mid-table), slash their ticket prices to maybe just above 1/2 the current level & see the impact. In theory they could get considerably more fans through the gate - possibly even enough to eliminate the lost revenue from tickets alone. With having an increased crowd, that will then increase revenue from refreshments & merchandise....which in turn results in more cash in the clubs coffers. The negative circle is then replaced by a much more positive one, which could ultimately result in the club affording better quality players, which then improves things on the park, which then draws in more fans..... As part of the experiment, the SPL and/or SFA could help financially with any shortfall, to ensure that the club doesn't go bust while partaking.
  24. What is the difference between Chief Executive Office & a Chief Operating Officer??? In the long term, I would expect Mr Mather to apply for the permanent role of CEO along with everyone else....if he turns out to be the best candidate then so be it.
  25. easy solution....Ticketus!!!
