I would assume there's one pretty unhappy bunny down there in Anderlecht. First, his club renegged on what you would call a gentlemen's agreement, now Rangers supposedly switch targets.

Madjid Bougherra says Rangers offer 'made me sick'
der Berliner replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
If only the papers wouldn't splash such silly and more often than not misleading headlines. Attention seeking at its finest and a sure way to get people (i.e. Rangers supporters) up in arms ... with essentially no real reason whatsoever. Whyte should ban them all for a while. -
It comes from early July, when the Express (methinks) mentioned that we are interested. We have not made a bid, nor has anyone else. Rest assured, the longer the transfer window is open, this or that low key EPL or Championship side will want to bolster their squad and sign him up for their benches. And they can easily match Mo'll's 1m valuation. There is, for some strange reason, a gross consensus across all boards that he would be a decent buy, but unless we make a bid, it is all just wishful thinking. As I said before, I'd have him before Goodwillie. On a sidenote, we'll still have Rhys Murphy on trial after the international week.

No, that is what the papers headlines' were about. STV quoted the agent who said that all was fine and well with the money, but Anderlecht moved posts after seeing no need to sell him, raking in 18m for their striker. Anderlecht renegged on a verbal agreement with player and agent. See earlier posts. Strange things happened this summer. Miller's claim of us being "too late" - why was there need to go for the first club that showed up before the transfer window was even half open? United pushed through their deal with Goodwillie like there wasn't 5 weeks of the window remaining. Now Anderlecht moving posts. And for some reason, a disappointing amount of Bears still lie all blame at Rangers ...

Looking at this ... West Ham? They sure got some parting shot cash for exiting the EPL, so given his latest form and the 2 years of his contract remaining ... how about 4m for this promising young striker? As has been said by Whyte (and you can look at history to see he's correct about it), the English clubs do most of their dealings (maybe not the grand deals, but the majority) from the second week of August onwards, sometimes for silly money. Not that there seem to be many reasonable fees down there in England. Thus we will see some more interesting stuf being written. As for Verhoek and Juhasz, we'll have to wait and see. Let's sign up the Australian first and foremost, snatch Jamie Murphy up ere he's part of any late bid from England and look what we can get elsewhere.
-
So by the looks of it, we might have Juhasz and McKay signed up today. McCoist and McDowell were at Motherwell yesterday, hopefully to check out the Jamie version of Murphy.

I could dig up the list of how transfers happen again. People should realize that wanting a player is just the first step along the road. Others make that step too and if Verhoek or whomever decides that his destination lies elsewhere, it is by no means certain that it is our fault. But for some, the world only revolves around Rangers and all that happens is either our success, or our failure. Get those glasses off, folk ...

Or so says the ever-reliable twitter, I gather? And, as is common knowledge, he grew up supporting Forest ...

The Mail on Sunday seems to say that we have taken 18 year-old Gullermo Andres Lopez of Villareal on trial for a week, with a possible loan deal being the idea behind it. (snatched from FF)

If we get Cuellar and Juhasz, which I do not foresee, we'd most likely have a central defence of Cuellar, Juhasz, and Goian, with Bartley being a sub or used in central midfield. Whittaker has shown twice already this season that he's not good at right back, or, let's say he's dropped in form in this respect. I would not be surprised to see us using e.g. Edu out there, for he has pace and is able to break-up play. To back him up, Cuellar has featured at RB for Villa for years now. Edu moving out there would also ease the way in for Bartley, Ness and Hutton. You would expect McCulloch being suspended every now and then. You'd hope we do get Verhoek, since any winger we get in ensures that we keep Naismith through the middle.
-
Let's put it this way ... if he was a world beater, wouldn't you expect hordes of English, Italian, and Spanish managers harrassing the Den Haag folk? Not saying he isn't any good, he just hasn't got a name that would would draw the extra million on his head.
-
Den Haag is out of Europe and may want to cash in, while Juhasz has stated his desire to come to us after years with the Belgians. Essentially, this may drag on till the end of the transfer window, but one never knows. IMHO, 3m and 1.7m respectively are good enough, neither is a world beater or on a longish contract. Could well be that both teams hope for bids from the EPL though.
-
A rumour (and just that) on FF says that someone at Killie mentioned that we might go for Eremenko, who's valued at 500k. He'd be a decent and creative alternative for the midfield, at least for the SPL. Wouldn't mind such kind of back-up for Davis.

Craig Whyte comes out fighting to defend his transfer deals
der Berliner replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
When Timothy dropped out of the CL qualifiers, we were said to receive their pot as well, getting our income from CL money up to 16m. Unless I am mistaken, you get some 12m for reaching the competition, plus bonuses from points gained and gate receipts. I was also under the impression that the money for participation in the EL has increased to, but there are three Scottish teams competing there and that pot might be split. You would hope that neither of our businessmen were unsensitive enough to budget the CL money in for next season. This is always a va banque thing and a few years back (when we were not that deep in the clutches of Lloyds et al, Bain stated that they never took CL money for granted when doing the budgeting for the upcoming season.- 7 replies

Well, he is full of running and able to harrass people all over the field. And if you imagine a line-up like this, not even Barca will have much joy* ... McGregor Broadfoot - Goian - Juhasz - Papac - Wallace Edu - McCulloch - Davidson Davis Jelavic * We neither, of course!
-
Cool. Davidson, Edu and McCulloch in midfield. They'll call it the "Iron Curtain Mk. II!"
-
Bartley has already arrived. The rest? Juhasz, Verhoek, (Odonkor), (Rhys Murphy) ... ?
-
The rumour goes that Fleck and Ness are at roundabout 1,5k a week, while Wylde is at 850 pounds. Hence he's somewhat hesitant to sign a new deal at the same conditions. As for Fleck, the lad needs competitive games and experience. As long as Davis and Naismith are ahead of him in the creative and attacking midfield roles, he'll be restricted to cameo substitute roles. IMHO, a loan till January (to see whether he actually gets games with Blackpool) in the Championship would do well to get him into shape.
-
Wonder whether we will still pursue Juhasz now ...
-
ANd I have not seen anything about Verhoek joining Ajax anywhere but on various Rangers boards ... and from dubious sources. He will not have signed for anyone ahead of Den Haag's game tonight.

In the world of football, are we now classed as a small club?

Isn't that what the Scottish coaches preach and beat into their players? Style and techinque are not on a prime, it seems. And since the majority of managers in Scotland are of Scottish footballing pedigree, not much will change either. But then again, who could or can actually finance better football schools and trainers and coaches, given the lack of funding frankie bemoaned. -
I wouldn't go as far to say as saying he's not good enough for Rangers, but he's essentially wound himself down to "just another squad player". Now that he's got his contract, one might think that he can relax and look forward to some fine money-spinning years ahead. That would be a touch cynical. Yet, had he signed for Bursa and displayed the same form over there, he'd have some nasty people breathing down his neck. From his showings so far, he deserves to be "rested" and Broadfoot or Ortiz taking his place on the right hand side. Both have played there and shown a will to do well. Mind you, even Edu played better out there last night than Whittaker did over these last one-and-a-quarter games.
-
One can forgive a defender a mistake in one game, even as costly as the game at Ibrox. He came out booming ahead of last night and woosh ... If people care to look, I suggested dropping him and play Broadfoot at right back. I hope Ally does now.

BTW, a week ago Real Madrid played a pre-season friendly against Hertha Berlin (just promoted to the BL) over here. The Olympiastadion was sold out (nigh 75k), and thousands of Real-jersey-clad Germans invaded the place. That said ... Real or the like has not been hereabouts for decades ... and most likely won't be again for years to come. Thus, there should be no surprise if people stream into the place and want to watch the "glamour" team with all their stars once in their lifetime. -

Summer football? It is quite interesting that in one thread you denounce the Swedes and their ability, ignoring their vastly greater playing experience this season. While in the other you speak about us being better prepared if we would play summer football? The solution is pretty simple: UEFA should pair teams from leagues with summer football for these qualifiers, and teams who have just started pre-season. Even better, UEFA should just drop this Champions' League rubbish, use the co-efficient or even more better, the ranking of each relevant team in Europe, and start a real Europa League with 3 divisions, playing in midweek. As it is now, and it will be for years to come - UEFA uses the big and grand nations and their teams to get money ... and feed crumps tp the rest. And do not assume that the rest solely includes us and some no-hopers. We are in good company of about 70% of Europe's footballing nations. BTW, just in case you forgot, summer football is really fine. We would be prepared to each CL qualifying season ... up until November. Then we'd have a winter break and play bounce games to keep ourselves sharp for any CL or Europa League games (ask Trondheim et al how they do this.). Now imagine we manage it all the way to the final stages in May, when the league season in sunny Scotland would start anew. Playing football all year long, no breaks for the players. THAT will be fun ... for the first year and the fans ...
