  1. Never thought it would be 4-1 at 90 mins, TBH. Then this idiot of a manager gets Can on ... BTW, penalty and o.g. aside, all excellent goals. Only saw the game from 60odd mins onwards, but it was essentially much like what we faced in the league, brick wall stuff and the odd free kick. I never knew that Porteous actually made it into the national side, but his tackle and selection essentially showed the standard you can expect from Clark.
  2. Some whispers that Viktor Djukanovic - also of Hammarby - is also on the menue, a double deal of 8m is being murmured about. That 20-year old left winger (Croatia/Montenegro) has got a contract till 2027 and will cost some money, aside from the coin mentioned above for the centre-back. Hammarby would be mad if they sell both for that sum, IMHO. And I doubt that we'll splash as much money around unless Lammers, Tav and Goldson will earn us serious money too.
  3. Haven't got the slightest clue how these teams are playing these days, so ... this will be fun. Germany 4 - 1 Scotland Hungary 1 - 2 Switzerland Spain 3 - 1 Croatia Italy 3 - 0 Albania Joker Poland 0 - 2 Netherlands Slovenia 1 - 1 Denmark Serbia 1 - 3 England Romania 1 - 1 Ukraine Belgium 2 - 0 Slovakia Austria 0 - 3 France Turkey 2 - 0 Georgia Portugal 2 - 1 Czech Republic
  4. Rangers are ready to step up their interest in 21-year-old out-of-contract Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron, who has been on a short break in Portugal but could fly back for a medical and contract talks. (Scottish Sun), Rangers and Anderlecht want to buy Hammarby centre-half Nathaniel Adjei, who is also interesting Feyenoord, after Lorient's hopes of turning his loan into a permanent signing were dashed by relegation and, although the bidders are prepared to pay nearly £4m, the Swedish club want around £1m more. (Expressen), Damian Garcia, the 20-year-old midfielder who has been linked with Rangers, will sign an improved contract extension with Penarol with an exit clause of nearly £8m. (Dario Alberti on X) In essence, the Garcia deal (if any) is dead, while Barron plays in the exactly same spot. From one ex-Aberdeen DM to the next, then. Adjei would be the next "young" player in defence, you wonder what this means for King (also just 20). We shall see. As previous seasons have shown, we do need backup players.
  5. The German word for "friendly", literally "test game". BTW, we watched a few Rangers games this season ... on screen though. Union had sort of a bad season, mainly due to bad decisions on player transfers. They have a new manager now, but as per usual, they will be just back from the summer break too. It depends on the demand for these games whether tickets will be available to the public, Die Alte Försterei ain't that big. No tickets are on sale just yet.
  6. Both Dowell and Lawrence are luxury players. Great to have in a team, quality no doubt. Yet, more often than not, you don't need a Rolls-Royce on a Highland moor. It's good to throw them on mid-2nd-half when teams are beaten and they can pick passes and destroy the opposition further. I also like Lawrence's will and ability to shoot from outside the box. But we first have to break down teams, and I'm not sure that they are the best choices for this. The physicality of the Scottish game and intensity of an OF fight was clearly not something they were used to and look able to adapt to. That said, I am not sure whether we utilized their abilities to the best outcome, just shoe-horning players into a system that hardly worked for years.
  7. Isn't that exactly what the modern fullback a.k.a. wing(er/full)back does? I just didn't put enough space between these wingbacks and the Defensive Midfielder, so kept a bit more of the old shape.
  8. From my East German "Picture Vocabulary" of 1957 ... The Goalkeeper The Right Back - The Left Back The Right Half - The Centre Half - The Left Half The Outside Right (or Right Winger) - The Inside Right - The Centre Forward - The Inside Left - The Outside Left (or Left Winger) ... what a sight to behold. I'd re-name them today as ... The Goalkeeper The Right Centre Half - The Left Centre Half The Right Wingback - The Defensive Midfielder - The Left Wingback The Right Winger - The Right Forward - The Centre Forward - The Left Forward - Left Winger ... and it would be totally fine for 95 % of our Scottish games.
  9. ... I was more concerned about our ability to sign Sima on top of that.
  10. Rangers director of football recruitment Nils Koppen held talks with Rapid Bucharest striker Albion Rrahmani's representatives in Mexico about bringing the 23-year-old to Ibrox this summer and the Glasgow club are willing to offer around £5.1m for the Kosovo international - double the amount tabled by Slavia Prague. (DigiSport) Godoy Cruz defender Thomas Galdames has said nothing is certain with regards to his potential move to Rangers, but the 25-year-old Chilean admits he has always dreamt of playing football in Europe. (The National) Abdallah Sima’s future remains undecided and any decision about a possible return to Rangers for the 22-year-old forward is likely to be made after Brighton & Hove Albion appoint a new manager. (Rangers Review) Rangers have received enquiries from multiple English Football League clubs about Robby McCrorie, with Aberdeen among Scottish clubs to have registered an interest, after the 26-year-old goalkeeper rejected a contract extension beyond next June at Ibrox. (Football Insider) Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi has left Rangers fans intrigued after the 20-year-old was spotted in London for the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund over the weekend following reported interest from the Ibrox club. (Football Scotland) ... we must receive quite some offers for Tavernier, Goldson, Lammers, and McCrorie, if we are willing - as suggested - to pay 5m for a striker. Likewise, this amount of money might put in a break into signing Sima, though we might try to loan him again, Cortes-style? Had a wee chuckle at the Kabadayi piece. So he was in London for a CL final, and that left Rangers fans wondering? Whatever makes a headline ...
  11. Right now, I don't really want any more project players. Chaps who need half a season to get going before getting injured. Even though the season eventually fell by the wayside, the band we had here last season still pushed the Scum much closer and injuries and "luck" aside, we might have grabbed a Treble. So the basis was there, we need to make it more solid.
  12. Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says the decision on Relebohile Mofokeng's future will be left up to the 19-year-old midfielder amid links with Rangers. (Radio 2000's Game On) Penarol president Nacho Ruglio says the Uruguayan club have no need to sell Damian Garcia after the 20-year-old midfielder was linked with a switch to Rangers amid his contract dispute. (Montevideo Portal via Record) Rangers, St Pauli and Lecce are among the concrete suitors for Bayern Munich left-winger Yusuf Kabadayi after Schalke 04, where the 20-year-old was on loan, decided the the overall package for his return was too expensive. (Florian Plettenberg on X) Ianis Hagi all but confirms he is leaving Rangers as he sets his representatives the task of finding" the right team and the right manager". (Sun) From a Schalke-Fan re Yusuf Kabadayi ... Everything from wild to extremely strong. Certainly a player with pace, but was sometimes too playful for me and often not a factor in games. Improved towards the end of the season. The purchase option of 1 million was not exercised, and the player was dismissed, so definitely no return to S04.
  13. We have Berliner whose pedigree is Nigerian, had a Bavarian whose pedigree is US-American, and now we are in for another Bavarian whose pedigree is Turkish. Looks like Germany has transformed into Little Britain ... 😱 The chap played 24 games for Schalke (BL 2) last season, scoring 4 goals, no assists. Very much a project-player like Tillman, but truth be told, I never saw anything of him in moving pictures.
  14. Rangers are interested in signing defender Reuell Walters with the 19-year-old having rejected the offer of a new contract by Arsenal. (The Scotsman) Rangers manager Philippe Clement has prioritised signing a prolific striker this summer. (Football Insider) Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq are ramping up their summer plans by preparing a move for Rangers defenders James Tavernier and Connor Goldson. (Al-Riyadiya) Rıdvan Yılmaz says he has no interest in leaving Rangers despite the 23-year-old Turk facing competition for the left-back position from summer signing Jefte. (The Herald) Panama centre-half Jose Cordoba headed for Norwich City instead of Rangers from Levski Sofia because the English club were willing to pay more up front in a transfer fee and more in wages to the 23-year-old. (Tema Sport) Damian Garcia has seen his "desire" questioned by Penarol head coach Diego Aguirre after the 20-year-old midfielder failed to sign a new contract amid links with Rangers. (Glasgow Times) One of those players could be Robbie McCrorie, after the Rangers goalkeeper rejected a new contract at Ibrox amid talk of a summer move to Pittodrie. (Daily Record)
  15. What we need for the Scottish game is 5+ attack-minded players, i.e. two strikers, two goal-scoring wingers and AMs that try to shoot and have a tendency of finding the net.
  16. Rangers will have to pay £4m if they want to land winger Oscar Cortes on a permanent deal from Lens, with the French club determined to recoup the sum they paid for the 20-year-old Colombian. (Daily Record) Sam Lammers will hold talks with Rangers before making a decision on his permanent future as FC Urtecht “want nothing more” than to sign him, according to VI. Writing on their website (1 June), the Netherlands news outlet report that the Ibrox club are in a great negotiating position after his form in the second half of the season saw him score 11 goals and register three assists in 20 appearances. Ben Davies is “likely” to leave Rangers this summer as Philippe Clement eyes a new left-footed centre-back this summer, according to Football Scotland. Writing on their website (31 May), the news outlet report that the former Liverpool defender is likely to be sold as Gers look to earn extra cash to bolster their budget for the transfer window. Chris Jack has admitted he will “be amazed” if Robbie McCrorie doesn’t leave Rangers this summer as the Light Blues eye a move for Liam Kelly. The 26-year-old stopper has found himself stuck behind Jack Butland in the pecking order at Ibrox this season, making only one single appearance throughout the year which came in the Scottish Cup. Reports suggest that Gers are closing on a deal to sign Aberdeen stopper Kelly on a free transfer [Daily Record, 27 May] and Rangers Review journalist Jack believes that will force McCrorie into departing Glasgow.
  17. Thomas Galdames ... The Chilean defender has been linked with a move to Rangers after impressing in Argentina with Godoy Cruz. He appeared to say his farewells this week after a Cup win, but Galdames has insisted he is in the dark about a move to Scotland and is preparing now to make his international debut for his country next week in a friendly next week against Paraguay before the Copa America tournament, where he was named in the squad. Asked directly about a move to Rangers, Galdames said: "I don't know anything about my transfer yet. I prefer not to say anything about it. "I don't want to say anything until something is concrete because there has been a lot of speculation. "The transfer market begins now, but I have to concentrate on the national team. "If I do get a transfer, it needs to be something that will be good for my career. That's what I have been working for since the day I became a footballer. "I want to play for my country and then go to the Copa America. "All I can say is that Godoy Cruz have treated me very well since the day I arrived here. "The people at the club have made me feel as if I was one of their own and that has honestly been very important to me to be able to perform, to be comfortable and happy in the club. "Until something happens, I remain a Godoy Cruz player."
  18. Back in the day of our first CL adventure, how many people did we have running the football-business side of the club? I only remember Murray and the tan-man?
  19. An Uru? Does it say anything about "running through brick walls" and "bits of human remains were draped round his neck like trophies"?
  20. - Cordoba turned to non-starter - Added: IN - Thomas Galdames (25) - CB/LB, Chile, Godoy Cruz - contract till 12/2024 - TM - TM stats - LINK
  21. HIGHLIGHTS | Rangers Women 2-0 Hearts | Scottish Cup Winners | 26 May 2024
  22. IMHO, goalies have never been a problem for us. We need to spend the money on good defenders. That said, I don't mind freebies either. We've been toiling up front with our system, while we leaked far too many goals from those few chances the opposition creates. Our stats must be amongst the worst in the league.
