  1. Overall a bizarre competition. Whilst it was enjoyable the standard wasnt great. Spain miles and country miles clear of any team - they were sublime considering a newly put together team. The final was 2-1 going on 4-1. As for England - to even get to the final was embarrassing. Southgate was playing for penalties, he was bringing on defenders then Spain struck. Scotland and Steve Clarke were equally embarrassing....the british mentality of management showed clear through in this championships. I didnt even care when Scotland scored and having a sour face in charge doesnt help. EDIT - I Just saw Che Adams face online for moving from southampton, Clarke should be removed for his persistence with him. He isnt even near Scottish and offered zero. he was the worst player Ive ever seen. Plus Clarke had an obsession for McGinn who I dont rate at all. Zero pace, Zero skill...
  2. Interesting question as to who is the top 50....although 50 seems a stretch. Its a bit like picking your top 5 players of all time, there is no right or wrong and picking should be based on what you have seen - i.e. Pele, Cruyff, Best dont enter my top picks of all time. There was an interesting question on ESPN the other day asking Steve Nicol to do a Start, Bench, Drop between Jimmy Johnstone, Archie Gemmill and John Robertson - that would be an interesting one for Compo, Scott and the plus 60 posters. I'll need to have a look at that top 50 list...its easier breaking it down to positions: Keepers: Goram Leighton McGregor Gordon Defenders: Gough McLeish Miller Hansen (just makes it as ended playing 1990) Hendry Weir Robertson (Davie all day long for me - note this doesnt have to be based on scotland caps) Midfielders: B Ferguson Lambert Collins McAllister (Tough typing that) McCall McFadden (was awesome on his day stroke winger) Forwards: McCoist McAvennie Johnstone Durie Miller That was brain storming and Ive missed masses in the midfield and forward line. But generation opinions are great
  3. Fantastic...I knew being 44 was all about being semantics......I just looked at Jason Statham and laughed and said ive a decade on you........ But end of the day Hibs are awful pal...........
  4. From a nostalgia point when the Scottish game was last competitive, its actually really interesting. I do recall watching that Dundee Utd side as an 8 year old at Barcelona and it seems like yesterday, and I was egging them on. Your right about the Aberdeen, Miller and McLeish were probably the best centre half pairing in Britain for a while. Without Alex Ferguson would they have won so much though? Hibs - You have age on your side there, I dont think Ive ever seen near a classic Hibs team.
  5. Ooosh. I think we can without doubt respect a lot of opposition players to an extent. I give that lot Henrik Larsson - no bear would deny he was world class. After that it gets ugly. Aberdeen and Dundee Utd 80s sides may throw up a good team - id notice only half - you elders would be best placed. Would they touch our greatest? A good question though Scott
  6. Good news. Perhaps a Clement signing. Anyone know how Lovelace fitness is? He is the youngster who I think could be brilliant. A superb debut but gets croaked in total Rangers fashion.
  7. Who is actually for it? I cant believe its been allowed for so long.
  8. Early to Mid 90s after the old Beach end was rebuild we got half of the South Stand and used to unofficially get Section F of the Main stand so you'd have a section of us next to them. It was easy to get tickets for that area and during the game they wouldnt bother us at all but escaping the ground with colours on was mission impossible.
  9. Ive just returned to the forum recently and havent mentioned this before, but watching games from afar and hearing that drum has to be one of the most annoying things - on par with Cling Film sticking when trying to unwrap it.
  10. Im probably in a minority but I have never minded Barisic and always thought he was one of the best crossers of a ball we've had in a long time. He is far from the complete full back but always puts in a shift. He's another who would be much better with a back 3 and less defensive responsibilites. Clement will be looking for his own players in the summer and it will be time for Barisic to move on but we have had far worse in that position over the years and I think he has had some unjustified stick at times when there has been far worse performers. And as Cammy just said Ive have him ahead of Ridvan at the moment.
  11. Your probably right about City scoring 3 or 4, but I also see Liverpool scoring on the break. Robertson is still missing for Liverpool and Trent cant defend. So perhaps a 4-2 could be more likely. United stole the points against Wolves, Forest, Brentford and Fulham, they sneaked past Burnley and Luton. On paper that would normally be maximum 18 points anyway and all bottom half teams. But things are away to get tougher for them, after Everton then have Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool coming up.
  12. It was still Neds there also. Going to school there I was a victim a few times of so called hardmen in groups who picked the easy target of 2 teenagers. Scott is correct though Teuchters are from the towns and villages going west and north and by no certain terms would I be a Teuchter 😄. This was always their cup final when I was going to Pittodrie but we had an immense record there in the 90s and 00s. It was a great day out and a home game for me. The games when I didnt have a ticket in advance - there was nothing better than going up to Altens area as a 16 / 17 year old with cold cans of Tennents waiting for the Gers buses come through to get a ticket. Have to say I dont know much about the current Aberdeen team but if Celtic just put 6 past them then they cant be great despite raising their game on Sunday. But I am looking forward to the game - there is just something refreshing about our games at the moment since Beale left.
  13. What a boost having real football back, and its a tasty weekend with a belter to start with. I cant see Man City not winning due to their attack plus how average the Liverpool defence is, along with no proper holding midfielder. The game at Newcastle could go either way, you dont know what Chelsea team turns up. It could be a 3-0 or a 0-3. I see Sheff Utd grinding out another home win like they did against Wolves. Spurs have big injury problems and no squad depth, both Romero and Van den Ven are out plus Maddison a doubt so Villa should go there and scoop the points. Then all eyes will be on at Goodison after Everton 10 point deduction, they couldnt have asked for a better fixture - Super Sunday live at home against a poor Man Utd who are somehow 6th in the league. They will be fired up and surely will win. Man City 2-1 Liverpool Burnley 0-1 West Ham Luton 0-1 Crystal Palace Newcastle 2-2 Chelsea Nottm Forest 1-1 Brighton Sheff Utd 1-0 Bournemouth Brentford 0-2 Arsenal Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa Everton 2-1 Man Utd Fulham 0-0 Wolves
  14. It just shows how brilliant Richard Gough was. When you think after Butcher left he practically got a new centre half partner every season and had to adapt. My count is Kuznetzov, John Brown, Big Slim McPherson, Alan McLaren, Gordon Petric and Jocky Bjorkland. Have I left any out? Even Amoruso was signed in 97 for Gough' last season but didnt kick a ball.
  15. Agreed, the damage MB did in the summer shouldnt go unnoticed, and the board have to take a large part of the responsibility for allowing him a free reign with no DoF and sanctioning his wishes. I dont mind these sort of posts about looking ahead at upcoming games but the only thing is in the SPL we play them all so regularly the next 10 matches will barely ever change - its having the League Cup final late Dec which is a puzzling one, it would have been good to have had that out of the way already. But also 12 games in 37 days means we are doing well still having 4 competitions to play for, Celtic will have 11 in that time but it looks like meaningless CL matches for them which is a boost. Aberdeen are in the same boat as us with conference games plus a cup final.
  16. Yeah absolutely, but there is not a chance they will change. The proof is in the pudding - three tournaments running Southgate and his tactics have cost England. In 2018 they go 1-0 up against Croatia in the Semi and they sat back and allowed Modric to run the show then go out. 2021 after going again 1-0 up early v Italy they sat off and allowed Italy back into it. Then last year against France Saka was destroying the French and he subbed him - plus the French just knew they were there for the taking mentally. The only question is who would they replace him with should he actually get sacked, I doubt Eddie Howe is leaving Newcastle at the moment and Potter is waiting for the right club job. Where Southgate does deserve credit is building a club mentality within this squad as the so called golden generation is well known for having cliques.
  17. Ive made two changes from my votes, I went with Weir at the back instead of Cuellar (Also remembered I liked Craig Moore at centre half but only really had 1 top season). Brought Barry Ferguson into midfield rather than Stuart McCall (With hindsight it could easily have been Ian Ferguson). Goram Hutton Gough Weir Robertson Laudrup Gascoigne B Ferguson Albertz Hateley McCoist Bench: McGregor, Cuellar, I Ferguson, De Boer, Mols (Pre-injury). Manager: I'd loved to have seen this team under Advocaat but it has to be Walter who's my greatest.
  18. Nice finish to the team sticking the 92-93 kit on them. EDIT - Just noticed you have 2 x number 4s and 6s or was this their numbers? @Rousseau Perhaps this lot need a manager vote though? An enjoyable thing to do though during the international break, well done for your efforts on that. I voted 7 of the 11 in the final team but Im thinking of tweaking my final team due to formation. Having a wee think now.
  19. I mentioned the other week that Clement just feels different to previous and I like what he is doing, I mentioned there seems to be a bit more professionalism about him and around the place. I think he is much stronger than Gio plus he doesnt have Beale's ego. The international break could prove huge as he will have finally had some time to work with the players who werent away so whether it be fitness or tactically, we may start seeing some more improvements. Sunday is a banana skin though, Id easily take a smash and grab 3 points AKA Arfield.
  20. Its definitely Hateley and McCoist for me also. I watched clips of Hateley the other day and he was just excellent, his pace went unnoticed at times. Mols was class and a pure joy when he joined and could have gotten into the team bar that injury, he was never the same. And Negri was a phenomenon for 6 months - those two together would have ended up with about 100 goals in a season if fully fit. Jardel - the one that never was!
  21. You have to get Dado Prso on your list 👍 And Gordon Durie who I would have as an unsung hero. Did lots of hard work and always good for goals.
  22. Just noticed nobody mentioned Souness for this position. Whilst remember watching games he played in, Im a year or so a bit young to really remember how he played and if he would have been considered for this position / role? Ray Wilkins is another. (Albeit only had a short stint at Ibrox) Is it a case they came too late in their career and had already peaked? A Question for those 46ish and over......
  23. Two more right sided players: I was well excited when we signed Andrei Kanchelskis but its a pity he was past his best. He did provide the odd flash but nothing to be considered near legendary status for the Club. He was actually out done by Claudio Reyna for a year or so who had a terrific season on the right for Advocaat in "that" midfield which boasted immense talent.
  24. They are severely boring to watch but should be one of the best teams to watch considering their squad. I cant believe against Malta he played Maguire and Henderson. They are joint favourites 4/1 with France for the Euros but they dont have that winning mentality that France, Germany and Italy have - these 3 are "tournament teams" that just need to get into tournaments and will always have a chance.
  25. Laudrup. (Now Lock the thread). It would be a tragedy if Laudrup didnt get in the team. Best ever player to play in the blue shirt for me. A good mention though to Trevor Steven, Alex Mikhailichenko and Peter Huistra but Laudrup was from another planet.
