Transfer window closes tomorrow and it would be nice to get at least 2 of our targets in. This will allow them to gel and settle for our title launch next season. And also try and get us another few rounds in the UEFA cup. Our defence is sorted for the season bar maybe a RB. But id like to see Webster sign permanently and we wont have to worry about sloppy centre halfs for a while. Id also like McCulloch in. He would be my first choice target at the moment. He can play on the left, not as a natural winger, but a more solid midfielder. He also props up with goals and will be suited to the scottish game. Dont know whats happening with Hartley, Buba says the deal is dead - maybe he can shed some light??? But he will improve the team aswell. I think those 2 would be enough to get us through until the summer. I dont fancy Gow or Fotheringham. Upfront we still have 4 strikers but its time to play Sebo from the start and I can see him coming good for us.

The fans seem very split on Buffel and Im on the side of being a fan of him. He has faults that I thought Walter and Ally could fix. 1) Toughing him up 2) make him realise a game last 90 mins 3) Play him in his position With those points above added to his skill and ability then we would have a good player in the creative role. Wherever he goes (he'll be more suited in the continent) i think he will do a good job.

A bit like Gow, this one doesnt take to my fancy at all. Im thinking about the UEFA cup and if we come up against 1 of the few big boys. I know Walter put a good spirit into the Scotland team with average players. But the average players in the national team are still a good crop who play at a decent level. And the reason they are average for being a national team is because they are being judged against the likes of Italy, France, Brazils top players. But going for Fotheringham, whom i cant say ive heard of much, doesnt appeal to me. Didnt he start with Dundee then fail at Celtic?? As for him being in Germany - who was that with?? Whereas the likes of McCulloch are much more appealing as he has came on well in the EPL and scores a few goals.
-
Cant find anything on this either. Has Strachan came in with a last minute bid for him or something!! That wouldnt surprise me at all.
-
He'd be a decent signing for the likes of St Mirren and would bring them experience. He was quite good for us in his first spell with the club. He was great at breaking up oppositions play, i remember him doing that at Hampden against Celtic which lead to us scoring. Scary to think he is 30. I remember him making his debut at Aberdeen as a 17 year old! Hope he finds a club.

20-25 years ago though Juff.

Yeah absolutely. He is a sunday league manager at best. I think McLeish would be a much better manager if he had a experienced, professional assistant. Im surprised Roy Aitken has been chosen over McAllister. I hope they take Gary Mac in aswell and look at a striker coach like Billy Dodds.
-
Looks like McLeish will be announced today. At least we will get to see close to hand if he does any dodgy selections and formations Gary McAllister will be a good appointment along side him, but there are rumours that Roy Aitken could be involved. We top our qualifying group and Walter has left a good ground to work on, unlike when he came in to deal with the mess Berti left. So new excuses to not still topping the group come October
-
....Mhanks winning in 90th minute! But at least Salt'n'Vinegar got sent off for his celebration.
-
Just add McCulloch to your midfield on the left and its sorted But even better stick Hemdani behind them in a 5 man midfield
-
He should have been pulled up for match fixing with that blunder at Parkhead!! Ive seen Gordon a few times for Hearts. In the Edinburgh derby he pulled of an amazing save in injury time to deny Hibs the win. But for Scotland he has been very good when ive seen him.

Yeah as i said on the first post we have an offer for Lee McCulloch in. I think would be an asset. He is strong and can play left or upfront. The first time he really impressed me was in a Scotland game (cant remember who against) and he got MOTM. Hopefully, if we get McCulloch, he can create a bit more for the forwards. We need all 4 midfielders to be creating more then maybe the strikers will come good. Whether its Novo or Sebo starting they both seem to be coming wide. This would be ok if we werent playing do wingers on the pitch - this should be there job and leaving 2 target men in the middle. R.e..Alan Gow im baffled as to why we are tyring to sign him. I could understand if we had went for the boy Stokes when he was at Falkirk. Id still take Scott Brown if possible. But it seems that he must come with Thompson as i dont think there has been a bid for just 1 of them. I dont want Thompson aswell. Pete, Culina just maybe hasnt settled at PSV.

Absolute spot on from the man. This is an updated version of the previous post and explains more recent things he is providing. - So no need to edit

I hope the Gordon story is true. Maybe Walter can persuade him to join us rather than the EPL but if Arsenal come in i cant see it. However we might be more attractive than Fulham. Neilson is a RB is he not?? Certainly a position we need cover for.
-
Just to add, it looks like we have bids in for Paul Hartley and Lee McCullough. I think this gives us the bite in midfield we will need and both these guys can score goals. They can also cover right and left midfield respectively and are both Scottish which is advantages. However they arent world beaters but will certainly improve us domestically.

I know Walter needs time and he has stated he wont bring in others for the sake of it but after watching some players yesterday id like to identify where the areas of improvement are required. Keeper: McGregor has done ok since coming in. He is a decent SPL keeper but no more than that. He has produced some great saves but also had a lot of flaps. He hasnt had the best defence infront of him so hopefully the new recruits give him more confidence. Klos is still sitting on the bench earning 30k a week which is sickening IMO. I blame McLeish for not bringing him back but understand the German may have had an attitude. However he gave us years and years of quality. He is likely to leave in the summer meaning we are short in keepers. Defence: Firstly Ehiogu and Weir look comfortable but I did feel a bit for Svensson yesterday. I think he can improve. But its good we have those 3 plus Webster to come in. And we still have Papac (who might move on) and Hemdani can play there - so we are more than covered at Centre half. I hope we get Webster permanent. At full back we are sorted at LB. Smith has been good all season bar maybe 2 games but you can excuse that as he is 19. Murray came in recently and does a fine job and Papac can play there aswell. Right back depth is a problem. Hutton has done a not bad job whenever ive seen him play. His best game was against Celtic. But if he gets injured we are lost at RB as Lowning hasnt had a chance yet. So a RB is needed. Midfield / wingers: Ferguson seems to be playing a lot better recently and got himself forward in the last few games - about time! Hemdani hasnt had a bad game this season even if he hasnt set the stadium alight. They 2 look good in the middle but a little creative player and tackler would be a good purchase. Our wide players just arent good enough! Sionko had 2 good games at the start then has been Capucho in disguise since then. Adam gets on the ball a lot and tries a fancy touch or 2 but is totally ineffective. But to his credit he has scored a few. But his crosses never meet there targets. He is a good player to have on the bench. Burke has never been consistant. He does well in small patches but is then our injured for periods again, and he never looks a goal threat - something we need in midfield. So id say a left midfielder is top target with either a creative or solid player in there next on the list. Forwards: If Prso stays on next season (which looks likely now) it will be a god send. He can rest all summer and come in 100% for next season. The big man is going to be almost impossible to replace. He is a banker to start when fit. But who partners him? Novo is a trier and is loved by the fans. But he cant re-do his 25 goals from a few seasons back. He gets in behind defenders but cant always deliver the final ball. Boyd IMO isnt a the answer. He is a goalscorer and poucher but needs 5 chances before he takes 1. He is slow and has a poor first touch. Im hoping Ally can develop him. Sebo - Yet to have a run in the team. He looked dangerous when he came on against Hearts. Its time for him to start upfront. So to clarify: A few personell need to be identified between now and August. Right back, Left Midfield and upfront are the areas or concern.
-
Yeah I agree. I dont care who they support as long as they are the right player for the club. Its not even an issue IMO. And your right Jim, McCann was a cracking player for us. Hartley is the type of player we could be done with just now. Celtic have got 3 ex Gers players just now (Brown, Elvis and Miller) and fair play to Strachan for that.
-
Ive been rating this guy all season but after yesterday i take half of it back. Jee whizz he was shocking yesterday.
-
He is a player who will move back to Europe and produce the goods - thats a banker. He isnt suited to the SPL and isnt being played in his preferred position.

Is he a poser who cares more about his hair than his football?? Talking of Lovenkrands, we could be done with him on the left at the moment. Im not impressed with Adam just now.

Sionko plays today!

Yeah but the times have changed just slightly. The Scottish game has went backwards a lot and only Hibs seem to produce decent youngsters.

As Walter took over he must have been thinking there isnt much pressure this season as I dont have anything domestic to go for. We are out of both cups and have zero chance of the SPL title. The main desire has to be to get 2nd place and to get in convincingly (sp). If we beat Hearts today that puts us on our way. On a side note we have the UEFA cup for Walter to dabble with. If we get through a round more or 2 then it will be seen as a good run. But there isnt a team in there that Rangers shouldnt be challenging at any time. So we need to put all efforts into this. Id be happy with the following this season: 1) 2nd place by 10 pts 2) A quarter final UEFA place at least 3) players giving 100% 4) a better showing of football
