I hope the Gordon story is true. Maybe Walter can persuade him to join us rather than the EPL but if Arsenal come in i cant see it. However we might be more attractive than Fulham. Neilson is a RB is he not?? Certainly a position we need cover for.
-
Just to add, it looks like we have bids in for Paul Hartley and Lee McCullough. I think this gives us the bite in midfield we will need and both these guys can score goals. They can also cover right and left midfield respectively and are both Scottish which is advantages. However they arent world beaters but will certainly improve us domestically.

I know Walter needs time and he has stated he wont bring in others for the sake of it but after watching some players yesterday id like to identify where the areas of improvement are required. Keeper: McGregor has done ok since coming in. He is a decent SPL keeper but no more than that. He has produced some great saves but also had a lot of flaps. He hasnt had the best defence infront of him so hopefully the new recruits give him more confidence. Klos is still sitting on the bench earning 30k a week which is sickening IMO. I blame McLeish for not bringing him back but understand the German may have had an attitude. However he gave us years and years of quality. He is likely to leave in the summer meaning we are short in keepers. Defence: Firstly Ehiogu and Weir look comfortable but I did feel a bit for Svensson yesterday. I think he can improve. But its good we have those 3 plus Webster to come in. And we still have Papac (who might move on) and Hemdani can play there - so we are more than covered at Centre half. I hope we get Webster permanent. At full back we are sorted at LB. Smith has been good all season bar maybe 2 games but you can excuse that as he is 19. Murray came in recently and does a fine job and Papac can play there aswell. Right back depth is a problem. Hutton has done a not bad job whenever ive seen him play. His best game was against Celtic. But if he gets injured we are lost at RB as Lowning hasnt had a chance yet. So a RB is needed. Midfield / wingers: Ferguson seems to be playing a lot better recently and got himself forward in the last few games - about time! Hemdani hasnt had a bad game this season even if he hasnt set the stadium alight. They 2 look good in the middle but a little creative player and tackler would be a good purchase. Our wide players just arent good enough! Sionko had 2 good games at the start then has been Capucho in disguise since then. Adam gets on the ball a lot and tries a fancy touch or 2 but is totally ineffective. But to his credit he has scored a few. But his crosses never meet there targets. He is a good player to have on the bench. Burke has never been consistant. He does well in small patches but is then our injured for periods again, and he never looks a goal threat - something we need in midfield. So id say a left midfielder is top target with either a creative or solid player in there next on the list. Forwards: If Prso stays on next season (which looks likely now) it will be a god send. He can rest all summer and come in 100% for next season. The big man is going to be almost impossible to replace. He is a banker to start when fit. But who partners him? Novo is a trier and is loved by the fans. But he cant re-do his 25 goals from a few seasons back. He gets in behind defenders but cant always deliver the final ball. Boyd IMO isnt a the answer. He is a goalscorer and poucher but needs 5 chances before he takes 1. He is slow and has a poor first touch. Im hoping Ally can develop him. Sebo - Yet to have a run in the team. He looked dangerous when he came on against Hearts. Its time for him to start upfront. So to clarify: A few personell need to be identified between now and August. Right back, Left Midfield and upfront are the areas or concern.

Yeah I agree. I dont care who they support as long as they are the right player for the club. Its not even an issue IMO. And your right Jim, McCann was a cracking player for us. Hartley is the type of player we could be done with just now. Celtic have got 3 ex Gers players just now (Brown, Elvis and Miller) and fair play to Strachan for that.

Ive been rating this guy all season but after yesterday i take half of it back. Jee whizz he was shocking yesterday.
-
He is a player who will move back to Europe and produce the goods - thats a banker. He isnt suited to the SPL and isnt being played in his preferred position.

Is he a poser who cares more about his hair than his football?? Talking of Lovenkrands, we could be done with him on the left at the moment. Im not impressed with Adam just now.

Sionko plays today!

Yeah but the times have changed just slightly. The Scottish game has went backwards a lot and only Hibs seem to produce decent youngsters.

As Walter took over he must have been thinking there isnt much pressure this season as I dont have anything domestic to go for. We are out of both cups and have zero chance of the SPL title. The main desire has to be to get 2nd place and to get in convincingly (sp). If we beat Hearts today that puts us on our way. On a side note we have the UEFA cup for Walter to dabble with. If we get through a round more or 2 then it will be seen as a good run. But there isnt a team in there that Rangers shouldnt be challenging at any time. So we need to put all efforts into this. Id be happy with the following this season: 1) 2nd place by 10 pts 2) A quarter final UEFA place at least 3) players giving 100% 4) a better showing of football

My jury is out with Burke jus now. He has shown glimpses of quality in small doses. I wouldnt have been bothered if he left after stalling on 13k a week. What he makes in a fortnight is what most of us make in a year. He is still lightweight IMO and im a fan of Sionko on the right wing if he gets the right service

Flutter time again. Charlton actually won last week and yes i did have them on at 4/1 but I also had West Ham at 10/3 who were robbed at Newcastle. This week is FA cup week so not as attractive for betting but im going: Birmingham to beat Reading 11/8 Middlesboro to beat Bristol Rovers Evs West Ham to beat Watford 8/11 Cardiff to beat Leicester 4/5 Tener pays 147 quid

After Mike and myself having a wee mention about the 3-5-2 system on another thread, id wonder how many other Bears would like to see this given a crack. It is either a hit or a miss but if it is pulled off in the right way it can work fantastically. Martin O'Neill got it spot on in his early days at Celtic with 3 towering and strong centre halves. Mike made the point that it didnt work with England recently but i think thats down to 1) it was just thrown at the players 2) they didnt even try it in training bar once 3) it needs time We have 3 or 4 great options at centre half at the moment and also have a good sweeper type player (Hemdani) to sit infront to make it even more solid. Then it gives you 4 extra midfielders to keep possetion and be creative and it leave you with 2 up top. Id be a bit dubious in europe with it to start with but in the SPL i think we could destroy teams even those who play with the Dunfermline formation of - 10-0-0 It would suit the likes of Buffel to be the man behind the front 2 and allow Ferguson to be box to box with Hemdani sitting tight. Then we still have 2 wide men. Our team would look something like this: _______________McGregor______________ ______Svensson___Weir___Ehiogu_______ _______________Hemdani______________ Burke____Ferguson____Buffel_____Adam___ ____________Prso_____Boyd____________

Aussies seem to do not bad these days and no more so that wee Tim Cahill at Everton. Viduka is flying aswell and Kewell used to be a cracking player at Leeds. Ive got a good feeling about this chap even though ive never seen him play. But Pete, our Dutch scout, has had good things to say about him.

Or even better get your mate to buy you a ticket today Chicken pox lol

Im still not believing we are going for Falkirk players. Thank god they turned it down. Does anyone think he is the man to blast us into the last 8 of the UEFA cup?? I know money isnt flowing but surely surely surely out sights have to be more ambitious than this.
-
I think football should be spread into the summer a bit more, you can beat going to a game in the heat! But im for a january break aslong as the Xmas period stays. The 4 games in 10 days is part of Xmas and i cant imagine that period without the games there. The players do deserve a 2 week break after that busy period. Id say 2 weeks of no football from Jan 3rd then the cup competitions and then the league again so they are gettin 4 weeks of no league football.
-
Im all for reducing the Champions league to 3 teams from each big league and 2 from the rest. It will make the likes of the premiership a better race for the top 3 places. It will make the UEFA cup more attractive then. Then bring back the Cup Winners Cup. Platini is the only man in football I have ever heard that backs the idea I thought of about 7 years ago - Have 4 linesmen on the pitch. Allardyce, your a clown!

Just as i typed this I got an email from a colleague in UK who supports Celtic and he says that things are looking up for us with WS and we will give them a tough time again!!!
-
Yeah totally agree Craig. Walter was the master at beating the Tims and keeping us No.1 in Scotland. And i dont necessarily believe it was down to money. He had a squad with the highest belief and spirit. I honeslty think that the SPL teams will be worried about playing Rangers again. For the last 18 months they have taken advantage of a poor poor Rangers team and everyone looked like they enjoyed coming to Ibrox and thought they could get something. Also Celtic's record against us is good especially at Parkhead. I havent been confident of going to Parkhead and getting anything since Advocaat was in charge. Slowly but surely Walter will turn these things round.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is PLG reduced the average age of the side to something like 23 for most games. So 2 experienced players with age on there side will do absolutely no harm at all.

Official: Clement Leaves while Burke Signs New Contract
Gribz replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Yeah im glad Clement has moved on and if we did get 1.8 million for him then thats a scoop. Hemdani can easy sit infront of the back 4 (or 3 if it was my choice ) and play passes. We just need a tackler in there now and for Ferguson to be a box to box player again. If Burke had left it wouldnt had bothered me. The fact he was stalling over 13k a week is a joke. What he makes in a fortnight is what most make in a year. I still think he is lightweight. But all of a sudden we have a lack of options on the left again. -
Yeah saw that this morning Craig, that Arsenal have picked up 3 or 4 key injuries. But they are also getting players back like Diaby. Baptista and Alliadiare (sp) are coming onto a game up front and Walcott is forgotten about at times. Add this to Henry and Adabyeor (sp) and they are still strong. They need Ljungberg and Gallas fit again. It really is Man Utds title to lose and the fact they still have to go to Stamford Bridge and Anfield means they could have lost it already!!! But i hope not.
