Tough one on JCD. Even if he is fit, do we risk him getting a reaccurance? Good to see he is nearing fitness anyway, we will need him for the upcoming schedule. But for tonights match we would play 1 upfront anyway if he was fit and Cousin showed against Barca he can play the role well enough. JCD can make the bench but id be happy just to see him fit for the OF game in Jan 2nd

I can see this happening depending on a transfer fee. Surely Walter wouldnt want to pay the 3 million Derby may want to recover whatthey paid for him. I also see Boyd going to Birmingham so we may be looking for a striker anyway.
-
Seems like a good way to have a punt as most scores come up 1-0 1-1 2-1 etc, but then you get Liverpool turning it on last night to buggar Gisabeer's bet.

Great read! Agreed with pretty much everything and its good to hear someone else believes Buffel would/could have been the man to make a difference. However i'd pitch him in, I dont think its came too soon for him at all, I think its set up for him if given the chance. Id love to be a fly on the wall to hear Walters views on him and his plans for the final line up. The only doubt i have about Smith playing Buffel is what someone said the other day - if he plays 4 more games then we are due to give his former club a fee.

Didnt see that result coming, I thought Marseille were on the up. Fair play to Beneitz, he'll give the big middle finger to the yank owners with that result, they were probably waiting for a chance to sack him.
-
So does he need to get 1 correct results from each game? Why is it 27 trebles when he has selected 9 scores? Or can the 2-1 and 1-0 be for either team? Also why is the return gonna be near 70 quid with a small stake, is it due to the correct scoreline being approx 6/1 going onto 7/1 to 8/1?

And so it all comes down to this....Rangers v Lyon

No prediction from yourself mate? -
Was saying on the preview thread we need a strong ref. He cant be bad if he sent that animal Balde off
-
I think that could come up. Ive often wondered how that works and Dixies etc. What is your total stake for doing that bet and how exactly does it work?

Would take Venebles straight away but 'Arry wouldnt be suited to the Scotland job so much. And no to the boy Bruce Arena or whatever his name is.

For the punters out there, Marseille are 7/2 to win and the draw is 12/5 - cracking odds IMO. I fancy them to get something and Liverpool to end up in the UEFA or even out of europe. Link to clarify the groups and what can happen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/champions_league_tables/default.stm Group C could throw up some interesting stuff with all 4 teams still able to qualify. Liverpools group is a bit messed up, if its a 3 way tie then it comes to goal difference even though Marseille have a better head to head than Liverpool.

And so it all comes down to this....Rangers v Lyon
Gribz replied to alanmidd's topic in Rangers Chat
Cheers Alan. Have to say Im not nervous at all but just excited. Id say Alan's team is pretty close with the possibility of either Adam or Whittaker starting in place of Naismith then switching McCulloch if required, but personally id rather see Naismith been given a chance than those 2. And everyone knows Id flung Buffel at least on the bench for this game. Lyon are picking up after a slow start but they still aren't the side of a 2-3 years ago when I backed them for the CL and they were very unlucky at times. The approach Id take is to have Hemdani sit infront of the defence then allow the rest (including Hutton) to simply have a real go at the French. Id play as far up the park as possible because if we get the first goal it means Lyon have to attack and get 2 goals which could leave them open at the back. 1 other thing we need on the night is a good referee. I'll go with 1-1 but could also see us nick it by a goal. -
I can see where Cousin comes from if he moves over from a foreign country and see's the Scottish culture being what it is and maybe to players do like a pint or 2 - I certainly raise the differences in UK culture to Asian culture in my workplace, doesnt mean to say I want to get out of this place. But footballers are in the spot light and the media will pick up 1 comment and turn it into a huge story. For me, all Cousin needs to do is play against Lyon like he did against Barca then if he wants a move to England he needs to go about it the right way. But as long as he gives his all while playing then I dont have a problem, he is entitled to his opinion.

Nice one, Id like to know how you got them but your on a plane right now
-
Good stuff, thats a 8:30pm K/o for me rather than a 11pm
-
He is getting higher on my list of "scottish" managers. BTW, remember and do your preview for Lyon game soon mate

Agreed Smith wont play a 4-4-1-1 but more a flat 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1. I would prefer to see a more attack minded line up, but Im all for attacking football in every game with a solid back 4 and holding midfield. But maybe it goes back to Frankies post R.E Davie Weir as to why we play this way - needing that extra pair of legs at the back 3rd. Not so much offended mate, just prefer all sensible views to be respected. I agree you have a point that this is the most important game thus far and it is a risk putting a player in who hasnt had any first team football but I still say he is match fit. RE your points 2 and 3 I think he does now have a bit of fight and is interested, maybe this is with age, but for him to be starring in every reserve outing against better reserves like Newcastle and Middlesboro AND playing on cold scottish evenings, shows he could be up for the fight. Then again he may be putting himself in the shop window for January. Back to my first paragraph - no, I dont think Smith will have a go at Lyon, but I wouldnt completely rule it out. And Id settle for Buffel to do as you mentioned. Quite a high possibility he will go with Adam and to fair to him he hasnt done too bad. Its just he blows hot and cold and when he is cold he is murder. But we'll find out on Wednesday evening or the early hours of Thursday for me. But one thing is for sure, I'll be up at 3am raring to go as this is amuch anticipated game for me, I really cant wait and Im looking forward to seeing the team sheet.
-
But it has to be remembered, people deserve second chances and he has certainly knuckled down and showed the right attitude to get that chance. Its not as if he is like Ricksen was with his attitude or even Klos to an extent. Also it has to be remembered he was played out of position a lot when he did get a chance. And i hope nobody brings up the Sebo thing. My opinion on him was to give him a simple try, not a second chance. Anyway, this is off topic now so back on topic - I still think we will go through with a draw or a narrow win
-
Yes agreed mate, and i respect others views and I also see where you are coming from. People disagree in every way of life from liking foods or voting political parties to rating and not rating footballers. But id never suggest I think your flawed and not thinking straight simply because we dont agree.
-
Not at all, I expect McCulloch or Naismith to play right mid and Buffel could play in the hole behind the striker - that to me makes a better looking side. Bit of an insult to suggest my thoughts are flawed simply because they are not the same as yours or a few others on this forum. Who is to say I dont see the game better than you or the others who disagree with me? The guy has talent - nobody has ever denied that - and I want to see him show this in a Rangers jersey rather than a totally average footballer like Whittaker. I want to see attack minded players in the team who can have a go at players and raise the tempo of a game. How others disagree with that makes no sense to me. People rave about the likes of Boyd, but its playing the Boyds and Whittakers of this world that are the reason behind us not picking up a trophy in a few years. For me, Id have a set up which is solid at the back but gives a good option of breaking away and creating chances. If we have the likes of Whittaker then IMO I cant see us having much chanes in the final 3rd. We have a solid back 5 then we can have Hemdani and Ferguson infront of that then leave Buffel, Naismith and McCulloch as options for breaking away with Cousin. The best source of defence is to attack at times. If we have a solid looking line up then we are inviting a good team like Lyon to have a go at us.
-
Tell me where Ive said lets play Buffel out of position and out on the wings?
-
Naismith, McCulloch and Buffel should start miles ahead of Whittaker. You cant honestly say you would prefer Whittaker at Right Mid to Buffel in an attacking role??
-
This pisses me off big time! I wish the yanks would piss off and leave football where it belongs. They dont have a clue how our game is ran and they are trying to take over and change it. The Liverpool owners think the transfer market is like their NFL draft system - and as Rafa put it - its not full stop. Ive been thinking for a while the Yanks will do anything for power and to win control over the UK public they would have to do something drastic and that means try buy out our biggest love - football. Piss off and stick to your baseball and handball
-
I hope not, we need our best available XI with talent and experience and players who can match Lyon. IMO Whittaker is nowhere near good enough for this game.
