Lennon, Hughton, Moyes, Lambert and Bilic are the front runners. Im not sure if Mourinho link is serious. Preferably Lennon gets it from our point of view followed by Moyes. Hughton would have them organized very well. I liked Bilic at West Ham, he suffered due to the stadium move.

WBA body language before the pens wasnt there, you could tell Villa would cruise the shoot out. If Leeds can get through tonight then the Wembley final is pretty much two sleeping giants.
-
I wouldnt mind them getting Mourinho. He is clearly not the manager he once was and will eventually throw the toys out the pram and players wont play for him. Plus he doesnt have an attacking style of football and teams could start to pick them off.
-
Chris Hughton first to be giving the chop, yet ironically Cardiff go down below them and Warnock will be staying on another year. Got to feel for Hughton, he took them from nowhere and now they will play a third season in the premier. I think he needed backed as he had an aging squad and he should have been given a chance to take them forward. The teams above them were decent, Southampton new manager made a difference and Dyche at Burnley has been outstanding. I can however see why Brighton would want to move forward and I suppose they think they need a bigger manager. And the rumour is Hughton is a fave for Parkhead. Brighton might end up the next Charlton or Stoke

I think my cash would be on the draw. West Brom will need to come out and go for it which could suit Villa plus WBA are missing top scorer Gayle.

I guess the only concern is if a large overhaul of players happens and we have to start again with new faces learning the system etc. The progress made this season just needs additions IMO but of course some of it could be out of our hands. Retaining Kent would be No.1 priority along with keeping Tav. We will certainly get another year out of McGregor in goal but I wonder if SG would take a punt on Joe Hart who will be available this summer. At 32 he would offer longevity. Buster - agree, however at the end of that game at Pittodrie SG made an offensive change rather than a defensive one late on which could have had a big difference.

Sublime City, some of the football again in the second half was great to watch. Awesome season and title race and got to give Liverpool credit for having the 3rd highest point tally in Premier League history. Its all about next season now. 3 golden boot winners - must be a first although around 2000 a couple of players might have shared it (Hasselbaink and Owen?) Had Aguero got his second he would have made it 4 players to finish on 22. Arsenal away hoodoo ends, they must be kicking themselves. If they score the last minute penalty against Spurs or beat Palace/Brighton at home then they have been top 4. Spurs must be wondering how the didnt finish top 3 and Chelsea must be wondering how they got 3rd. Man Utd - what a blunder appointing OGS prior to the end of the season especially with Mo Po comments in the past few days. Good finish for West ham, Palace and Newcastle. Wolves - top class job finishing 7th.

match thread (image) [FT] Rangers 2 - 0 Celtic (Tavernier 3, Arfield 63)
Gribz replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Bossed the game from the first kick bar a five minute spell at the end of the first half. Should really have taken 7 points off them this season but 6 is restoring us again and the 6 pts gap could easily have been less looking overall the season. Kent my MOM ahead of Arfield, the priority has to be to get Kent back for at least another season, he can be unplayable on his day. -
Agreeing with Bill for the first time ? That odds is very dubious. Especially with our odds 2/1. They should be almost the same, its like who takes kick off, 50/50

I had a wee flutter on a draw double, it wasnt far away, fine lines. Villa v WBA is still finely in the balance and the 2nd leg will be good but Leeds have an advantage now which I fancied yesterday. Villa v Leeds at Wembley would be some match, two giants.

Is it not Newcastle who play there? ?

Proposal to Restructure Champions League Leaves Out Most of Europe
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in General Football Chat
UEFA arent looking at footballing reasons. The knock out stages in the last few seasons and especially this season have shown they already have a top product and tampering with it could have backward consequences. They already killed the Cup Winners Cup and Uefa Cup which were previously prestigious. If the Europa Cup winner didnt get into the CL it wouldnt be worth its salt at all. I would keep things as they are but if any tournament has to be tweaked its the Europa as it practically starts as soon as the season ends. A third competition could return to split the teams or even regionalise the Europa. I also still think moving the Europa Cup to a Tuesday would increase interest and put the CL onto Wed and Thurs. The majority of CL teams play their domestic league games on Sundays anyway for TV. -
Chris Sutton calls on Rangers to give Celtic guard of honour at Ibrox
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
The more you think about it the more ludicrous it becomes. Imagine giving that lot a guard of honour (think about what honour means) after the antics they have done by beating a Rangers team in rebuild - Laps of honour at parkhead, Broon antagonizing everyone etc. The thought of applauding that guy onto the pitch is sickening. -
I'll throw in the Championship Play offs also then. Aston Villa 1-1 WBA Derby 1-1 Leeds (although this is changing, Im starting to edge towards 0-1 to Leeds).

Last game of the season. Brighton 0-2 Man City Burnley 1-1 Arsenal Crystal Palace 2-1 Bournemouth Fulham 1-1 Newcastle Leicester 2-2 Chelsea Liverpool 2-0 Wolves Man Utd 3-0 Cardiff Southampton 2-0 Huddersfield Tottenham 1-1 Everton Watford 2-2 West Ham

Chelsea limp over the line but how can Arsenal play so well away to Napoli and Valencia yet be so poor in the league. Cracking final though but silly location. No direct flights for fans apart from 3 days before the final and only 6000 tickets for each club in a 68700 capacity stadium.
-
Frankfurt arent a bad side, currently in the top 4 in Germany, Chelsea would be silly to underestimate them. And Arsenal could easily lose 2-0. What odds for a Frankfurt v Valencia final? For CL final Compo, the value odds will be for correct score, HT/FT etc markets. Probably get a bit more to predict who lifts the trophy via ET or pens.

Ridiculous comeback. What was Ajax doing though. Spurs head over from the corner 4mins 30 secs into 5 mins of injury time, the fans were cheering it knowing that was it over. All they need to do is play it around up the park yet they tried to be cute and lost possession and all of a sudden they are out. I would have liked Ajax to win it but it does set up a belter of a final and I will be a Spurs fan on June 1st. Agree with Craig though, it needs to be renamed as its not the 'Champions' League at all. Over to Chelsea and Arsenal. After the last 3 nights of football Im not even going to try predict.

Chris Sutton calls on Rangers to give Celtic guard of honour at Ibrox
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Alan Stubbs next up to say we should give them the guard of honor. They are really rolling them out! Saying we would want it from Celtic had we won the league (Eh no we wouldnt) and we should rise above it. Coming from the guy who was in charge of Hibs when we won the Championship yet they didnt do it for us in that season. But more worrying is Barry Ferguson saying he wouldnt begrudge them it! What?!! Im against guard of honor in general, only something like when Arsenal went the season undefeated would be different as that should be applauded. -
Well done, thats a scoop.

As TannochBear has pointed out the evidence is there of progression with a point increase, goal difference huge improvement and closing the gap and at least finishing second. Realistically this was expectations was at the start of the season for league business. We held our own in Europe and got through a load of qualifiers and then didnt look out of place at all in the most competitive group in the competition. The lines are very fine. I still look to the first two away games of the season, conceding at Pittodrie and Fir Park extremely late was harsh plus the bad run earlier this year with a couple of silly draws. Yet the luck shone on Celtic with injury time winners at Dens, Tynecastle and Rugby park - even half of those go our way then its a close one. If we make the same percentage of improvement next season then there is no reason why we wont win the league. I cant see Celtic improving that much.
-
Disaster Barca. They must have thought it was done and dusted. Dembele's miss in the 95th minute in the Nou Camp has come back to haunt. Id rather see Liverpool lose another final than in the Semi's though ? Could be two all english finals if Spurs win in Amsterdam.
-
What a screamer of a goal, absolutely peach. For all the possession City had I couldnt see them scoring a typical tap in type goal, it needed that screamer. I wouldnt say its done yet with this league season, but 15 or 16 wins straight is unreal from City considering they were 7 behind at one stage.

Eh absolutely not. -
Really tough to call. I would say Derby having momentum will get past Leeds who have ran out of steam although I would like to see Leeds back up in the top flight. Im taking West Brom over Villa so a West Brom v Derby final for me.
