  1. Going forward it can be, but with a NO.8. Then Lawrence is always further forward as a second striker. Sunday isnt the game to try it but say Lawrence and Hagi next to each other with two wide players would be interesting. For EG: Bajrami Lawrence Hagi Cerny Raskin The way we do it is frustrating and too deep and too pedestrian.
  2. Some Semi Finals stick for me. The 1996 Scottish Cup Semi at Hampden when we beat Celtic 2-1, that was a great game. The Laudrup lob to win it was excellent even though they tried to take him clean out. McCoist opened the scoring with a typical tap in after Robertson hit a shot and I think Marshall in goal laid it straight to McCoist. Plus the 92 Semi against against Celtic when we played about 83 minutes with 10 men - and Super Ally did it again with a strike from outside the box.
  3. Ive wanted Dessers to succeed but he fluffs too many chances. We mentioned Kent the other day, I think Im also realising how much quality Morelos actually had. But Id start Igamane tomorrow. Lawrence would be more suited to a 4-1-4-1 rather than being the sole No.10 (In some games we should only need one holding midfielder) but he may be dropping down the pecking order. Id have no issues with Hagi starting. Just seems Clement is scared to change things but he must be realising what he is doing now isnt working. After the Ross County game last season he himself has lost confidence.
  4. This will be tough this weekend, last week was crazy with injury times goals in almost every game. - Gunners with loads of injuries but I like how Arteta hasnt used it as an excuse. - Routine City win. Loads of injuries which Pep has complained about but they can still field a top XI. - First win for Ipswich. - Forest doing really well but questions still hang over Lopetegui at West Ham. - Smash and grab for Everton. - Palace are onto their game now. - Tottenham v Villa could go anyway. - Man U players will be on trial with Amorin watching but Chelsea probably have the better players. - Monday night game is a nice fixture. When I lived down south this would have been a 3rd tier fixture. These two and Leyton Orient were London's lesser clubs. Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal Bournemouth 0-2 Man City Ipswich 2-1 Leicester Liverpool 3-1 Brighton Nottingham Forest 2-2 West Ham Southampton 0-1 Everton Wolves 1-2 Crystal Palace Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa Man Utd 2-2 Chelsea Fulham 2-1 Brentford
  5. I just want to see something different from a 4-2-3-1. Having a trio in the midfield of Diomande, Barron and Raskin would mean we should control things better and then its up to the front 3 to turn that into goals. If not then perhaps a back 3. Being a Semi Final only means one thing though - getting through. Its time for Lawrence and Dessers to sit this one out though - regardless.
  6. And previously nobody was running it - easiest Billion or 2 the Glazers ever made!
  7. Fully agree - regression is what's in question here - not time for patience. All Aberdeen's new recruits and management cost less than our most expensive signing in the summer meaning it can be done for less than 4 million. Additionally they have flirted with relegation and bottom 6 plenty of times - so a good turnaround can happen overnight which rules out this patience talk any longer. Patience was fine when came back to the top flight.
  8. In addition to the 30 days notice, Sporting also want additional compensation for the backroom staff. Bet Man U didnt see that one coming.
  9. Didnt he also say that around 8 of the starting 11 where already there before Clement? That shows what a disaster Ian Beale did but it also asks the question what has happened to the new recruitments! Clement had an interview at the start of the season about the injuries and how they have been working on it - sounds like it was a simple new order of treatment tables. I actually thought half the bench was stronger last night and should have started.
  10. Adamant 3-4-3 but I think Man Utd are suited to that, it would just mean Bruno Fernandes missing out unless he tweaks his No.10 role - but I cant see him being dropped with the Portuguese connection with Amorim. On Tuesday he was as good as the Man U manager but yesterday it went quiet. Whether there is a change of mind it wouldnt surprise me with their current squad - but I think its to do with Sporting demanding he serves his 30 days notice.
  11. Im not saying Clement out but he seriously needs to start getting real. Confidence in him is dropping, yet he is still the same guy who took over this time last year and put us a good place for a title run. Then after the cup final I was positive - I thought we were very unlucky that day so it made me think we have a great title chance this season but as some have said we have massively regressed since the first ball was kicked this season. There are players who are simply not good enough and the 4-2-3-1 is cracking me up. To dominate a game, unless you have quality players, then it should either be 3 at the back or 3 real midfielders - but if you dont have a trusted No.10 then dont play the 4-2-3-1 as it makes the rest of the team disjointed. I have read the thread saying the second half was an improvement but when we could have been 3 down at half time id have expected nothing less then an improvement at the minimum. The team line up - I just dont get. Tav has to make way and would be more effective coming on for 20 minutes if needed. Lawrence is keeping himself in the team scoring the odd wonder goal but apart from that has been a passenger all season.
  12. The only irk Ive had with Clement is his resistance to change. We are crying out for more in the final third so why is a back 3 never an option. Even with a back 4 then flood the midfield with real midfielders, but don't rely on Lawrence getting a showboating moment every week as he is wasteful for 89 minutes.
  13. Well West Ham got a dooing. Lopetegui is not a West Ham manager in a million years. He is a player who gets pay offs from all his clubs.
  14. You have hit the nail on the head. (I hope Gonzo isnt here as time machines make everything irrelevant 😄) I always think you have to have seen the player for a good period of judgement time...that makes it tricky. Goram and Leighton get in for me. I'll need to hit the black board to think about another 3.
  15. Have to say I love the nostalgia stuff about late 80s and 90s Scottish (and some english) football. And I cant believe with the list of proper players how no manager has ever got us beyond knock out stages. Sportscene, Scotsports, The Green Final was my weekend. Always thought Henry Smith was decent - yet Hearts should have wont a title (86) but Rough was exactly that - Rough! But I didnt see him before 85. Yet I remember watching Dundee Utd and McAlpine pulling of top corner saves etc.
  16. So by that method of thought I should rule out Maradona as the best ever player and Laudrup as my best ever Ranger. Comparing sport stars past and present is a daily debate worldwide. Stats are never accurate when it comes to players and managers - they only reflect certain aspects and when in percentages its even worse until a player or manager completes the same amount of matches. Differing circumstances can also affect stats. I wonder what Man City's XG stat will be for their upcoming match and what the odds are of them achieving it.
  17. And you are perfectly entitled to your opinion - hence why forums exist. But to simply say "Thats utter bollocks" or "Time Machines Dont exist" is flawed arguments with no substance. Thats a bit like saying you cant put Maradona down as the greatest ever because there is no time machine to bring him here now therefore we must go with Messi or Ronaldo. I thought Kent on his game under Gerrard could rip teams apart. If he had a bit more of a final ball or scoring then he wouldnt have ever been at Rangers in the first place.
  18. I wondered if Kilmarnock had laid grass down yet - plenty of replies show that they still have that surface which should not be allowed in top flight matches.
  19. Woohoo - International football away for another few weeks. The early kick off could be like a basketball match. Tottenham 3-3 West Ham Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa Ipswich 1-1 Everton Man Utd 2-1 Brentford Newcastle 2-1 Brighton Southampton 0-0 Leicester Bournemouth 0-2 Arsenal Wolves 0-4 Man City Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea Nottingham Forest 1-1 Crystal Palace
  20. John Brown should have been capped. I seem to recall Ralph Milne being a pretty good winger in a top Dundee Utd team. Unfortunately for Billy Stark and Jim Duffy - they had some serious competition. I remember Hamish McAlpine just at the end of his career and you guys can confirm if he was better than Alan Rough and Henry Smith?? Craig Brewster should not be on the list. The most under capped player was Davie Robertson - he was streets ahead of Tosh McKinlay. On ESPN the other day Steve Nicol and Craig Burley were asked their top 5 Scottish players of all time - they found it impossible. Denis Law and Dalglish was Nicols top 2 but after that he was in double figures in seconds.
  21. A bit pedantic - Especially when Ive said I wouldnt have him back due to him not being the same player.
  22. I was going to post similar. Cortes - seems made of glass, been injured non-stop. Cerny - Does one or two good things but then over does things massively - Im not convinced but its still early. McCausland - Would start on the right for me at the moment. Matondo - I actually like but lacks a bit of end product. He has quality but is also inconsistent. Peak Kent was better than all of them.
  23. Exact this. Kent lost interest and wasnt near the same player. I was a huge Kent fan and if it was the Kent we seen under Gerrard it would be a no brainer to try re-sign him but he isnt / wouldnt be the same player. For going back to former players it should always be case by case. Actually - a good thread would be to see a list of players who came back to the club and was a success. Kenny Miller and Craig Moore are the first 2 that jump off the top of my head that worked out.
