Lets swing it round the other way then. If Boyd moves on (who knows where) but ends up like a Steven Thomson and we win the title this season will you hold your hands up and say we were right to get rid of this type player as he wasnt good enough for the team game?

Novo got 25 goals in his first year under McLeish. I agree abour Darcheville, One 90 min game is a joke but its down to the size of that leg muscles. Cousin's attitude stinks but he is still a quality player. Velicka will possible be his replacement and give us more on a weekly basis IMO. Miller is a player I quite like and im looking forward to seeing him play again.

Criticised is a better word than slagged as we are judging his game then. But I just dont see Boyd improving but that doesnt mean to say he wont. He did show a better attitude at times last season by losing weight and trying to get involved in a deeper role but it lasted 3 games - thats not good enough from a professional. (I actually love these Boyd debates coz they can go on and on plus its better than discussing nothing) Pete, you need to keep up mate, you have been online as long as me and Jon this morning but arent keeping up with posts - that old typewriter surely needs replaced now eh....!!!

Id take a 2-0, 3-0 with playing great football every week which isnt bucketloads. Until Ive seen Miller in a Gers shirt again, Velicka and Lafferty then I'll reserve judgement on who is on our books to score that amount of chances. But id also say Novo is capable of 20+ goals (he did it before), Darcheville would get 15+ if he could play 90 mins every week and if Cousin had a good attitude and desire then he would get 20 goals.

FFS R.E Boyd Yes we should be playing more attacking football (but keeping things tight at the back) but Im afraid your pal just doesnt give us that attacking football. For attacking football we need: 1) pacey runners down the flanks or through the middle 2) strong strikers to hold it up and allow runners from the midfield 3) players who are capable of a neat first touch and a one/two with others who can create something Attakcing football doesnt just mean scoring goals, we have to create first and once again your hero doesnt give us that

Im not near the only one who wants to see Buffel, there arent a huge amount on this boards who want to see him but there are a few, im just vocal about him. And I havent been slagging Boyd off, Im just being honest about what I see in a player. Ive never slagged Boyd off personally. The same can be said to you and others about Buffel but I dont acuse anyone of slagging.

Where will Boyd come into this then??? The thing we lacked last season was being able to attack despite being very solid at the back so Id say No.2 In most of our Euro matches we didnt look like losing but at the same time in a few matches it looked as though we could have played for 180 mins and not scored (possibly due to the formation). We drew too many SPL matches in the end (Hibs, Motherwell) and if we had that extra bit upfront we would have won the treble. But if you look at Arsenal they play too much and havent won anything for 3 season now but again thats down to quality, they had the same system between 98-2004 and won the title 3 times, a few FA cups and went the whole season unbeaten in 04.

By Championship material I meant championship winning material - i.e. capable of being in a team to win us the league - not the English Championship. Papac has been a good player for us last season but he wasnt ever a bad player that I can remember, plus he came from the unknown. Thomson was always "promising" so is in a different catergory to the Adams, Burkes etc who have been at Rangers for a while. Thomson will be marked in the next few years but is certainly on course for improving aswell, but the others have been on stand still for a few years. Adam showed glimpses on loan but hasnt done in consistant. And Im not sure how I can be deluded. If everyone else is just happy for Celtic to go onto 4 in a row then thats deluded IMO. As for Sebo - the wrong message is out on him. All Ive ever said about him was he deserves a chance and his work rate was impressive and he looks like the type of player who could rattle SPL defences. No player can be judged on getting 7 mins here and 14 mins there in matches.

Ive wanted Fowler for as long as I can remember as well. If anyone was ever going to be a new McCoist it would have been Fowler but now he is too old although would probably still get double figures for us. Easily in the top 3 best finishers ive seen in the Premier League, the other 2 being Shearer and Scholes. Eduardo reminds me of him with his finishing.

I share the blame between David Murray, Martin Bain, Alex McLeish, Paul Le Guen then a number of players who just havent been good enough due to attitude and quality. Boyd is one of them. WS is showing signs of getting better players in (albeit not top class players) and mounting a challenge again. Once the average run of the mill players move out or are squad players we will win the league again. Be honest now - the only 2 average SPL run of the mill players who improved there game in the last few seasons are Alan Hutton (who took improvement to a new level) and Allan McGregor (who is very much on the up). The rest (Burke, Adam, Boyd) are the same players are arent championship winning material.

Sure, if he gains pace, learns how to beat a man or 2, turn and shoot, hold balls up and brings others into place......la da da de da then yeah - he will prove me wrong. But Id rather Fowler coming off the bench to try and nick us a goal
-
Should be interesting to see where WS plays him. If Beasley is fit id start him left and Id like to see Velicka and Miller paired upfront or even Velicka and Cousin if he stays.

Murray's Ibrox facelift must mirror the ambitions and hopes of Rangers fans
Gribz replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
Agree with the article. Just 13 or 14 years ago Ibrox was the biggest and best in the UK and Parkhead was still a 1940s stadium. Now so many stadiums have been upgraded or built yet be havent had a lick of paint. Ibrox is still impressive but for the best few seasons it has been a quiet place to be bar OF and Euro games. It needs a new injection of life. 5,000 seats is a start but I think we need a minimum capacity of 60,000. Having kids in for a few quid is much better than emtpy seats. Obviously it costs millions to do this so do we expect Murray to put his hand his pocket? He is not obliged to do so. -
Better choice from Cardiff aswell

Santa Cruz is very similar to Eduardo. Hopefully the latter comes back the same player as he was looking awesome before he got injured, his finishing was superb.

Havent looked at a coupon yet but I almost bought a German top today plus a Spanish top for the misses. I think Im going to back the Germans to win once I see the odds

I cant see Wenger going for Crouch, I think he will go for Martins at Newcastle. The next few weeks is when the transfer market gets active. Everyone has been on holiday for the last month and now that Euro 08 is almost over the targets have been identified. Once the players who were at Euro 08 are back from there few weeks break then transfers will come thick and fast.
-
Yeah your right Pete. However IMO he isnt showing any signs of improving his game and almost isnt capable of being an all round striker. For me, the best we can get from Boyd without a Laudrup is for him to come off the bench and hope he gives us a goal when we need one, but we have Novo for this who is effective. Other than that I'll take a few million for Boyd.

At least they havent buggered up and moved the Aberdeen game to the Sunday. Plus this gives us an extra day to recover from the CL game for the OF game.

The rotation policy isnt as much as a problem as people make out, its the quality of Liverpool. The guys who come into the first team should still be good enough to beat the lower EPL teams, thats what Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenals 2nd string can do, but Liverpool make 4 changes and they will draw with the likes of Birmingham. They need 3 world class players to assist Gerrard, Torres and Babel. Mascharano is a good anchor but id have Alonso ahead of him. I dont understand why they let Luis Garcia away last year - he was a cracking player

Pete that isnt a bad shout BTW for Hemdani to move back into the defence. He still isnt quick nor the greatest tackler but to read a game and begin passing and play he is top notch. On your previous post you mentioned a back 3 - again that isnt a bad shout seen as we are unsure about full backs. Also a Cousin and Velicka partnership would be awesome but I think Cousin is gone TBH. At RB i am really hoping Whittaker plays here. But i fear he is going to be used as a midfielder again and he offers nothing creative there bar 1 amazing solo goal last season. Ferguson is the big question for me. If he is fit and playing to his game then he starts, if he isnt 100% fit then bench him until he is. Id like to see something like this (if we dont get Davis then keep Buffel) ______________________McGregor___________________ Whittaker________Cuellar_________Weir________Papac/Smith ________Ferguson______Davis/Buffel_______Thomson_____ ____Miller/Novo__________Velicka_____________Beasley/Lafferty You could even put Hemdani in for an unfit Ferguson and Darcheville in for Velicka.

Im beginning to think you are Boyd, and Johnny K is your agent. Noboby would know as you have never shown up anywhere Now im getting worried about you visiting me - either you are Boyd coming to kick my head in or you are Jon gagging for a ladyboy!! But cracking news on McGregor! I was worried who was going to replace him had he left after him improving his game greatly last season. 15 months ago I was worried about our keeper position but McGregor stood up and now he has a chance to go on a cememt himself as Goalie No.2! He has got quite a bit to reach Gorams level but last season he really impressed me.

If Cardiff come back in with a 3.5 million bid then just as Craig says we should bite there hand off. Winning the league is going to be all about how we play as a team and Boyd just doesnt fit into that at the moment unless we get a Laudrup or Gascoigne to set up the chances. Negri took the huff in the 97/98 season while WS was still in charge and we didnt see him again until well into DA era. Mols joined in 99/00 season (DA's 2nd). So they were both still on the books at the same time. One thing i disagreed with on Craigs earlier post was this: Mols scored 14 or 15 goals between August and October that season he was injured. Not only was he scoring but he was creating. I was at the Motherwell game where he bagged all 4 goals and made them himself - Boyd could only dream of that. Had Khan not injured Mols i think he would have got approx 30 goals that season.
