I think the fact that they are more flair players and would ten to be further up the park plays against them. WS goes out to not lose a game rather than try to win it.

Thats what ive been saying all summer. Id have been delighted with Davis, Varynen and Lovenkrands as all were afordable and bring excitement to the team. Instead we are so flat with what we have at the moment. Another baffling one last night was Hemdani not playing.

We need midfielders before another centre half. Broadfoot looks like he can play centre half and we have Dailly, Papac and Weir plus even Hemdani once Carlos comes back. Midfielders HAS to be the priority rather than wait for Ferguson to get fit.

Its a song id prefer to have. I also wish we could get Hullo Hullo..back with cutting out the wrong words. Now that WAS a Rangers anthem and showed who were were.

Jonc might just agree with you on that However id have started Miller first. He obviously showed a bit of hunger last night to do well and he could have scored.

Totally agree they should be given a chance. The promising tag should get thrown out the window and if you have potential then show on the top stage. Lets get Lafferty, Fleck and Furman all in that team in place of Dailly, Adam and McCulloch.

I dont think he should be punished forever but I dont think he deserves to be rewarded with 50k a week. I agree Newcastle should have taken a stand but the problem is they see him as a business asset and if they sack him then he can join another rival club - sad state of affairs. Footballers who think they are bigger than the law deserved to be brought back down to the real world.

Plymouth (i think) just sacked their keeper for a car accident while he was over the limit. This is the treatment id expect, but it seems Barton is being given a chance due to being a footballer, or Newcastle seem to think they will get something out of it. Footballers dont deserve extra treatment. However Barton has done his time here and has the chance to become a reformed character, shame its on about 50k a week.

Id say WS will shuffle people around to cover the full back positions. I think we'll see Dailly and Broadfoot filling in at RB and Whittaker playing both sides when required as well as Papac at LB. Depending on Webster coming good we will also see a few shuffling round at centre half to partner a fit Carlos. We definatly need 2 centre midfielders plus a right sided midfielder to cover Novo. You'd think losing Burke and Naismith should have raised some alarms here.

Pretty much the team I put down bar Cousin. But I can see this 4-5-1 coming back into things but he may play strikers in midfield.

I still hope we get Davis and Varnynen. But if we do I cant work out what we will do with all the strikers, surely a few have to be offloaded.

Why?? Look at the list on paper, its very impressive. Whether they perform or not is another matter, but would you swap Rangers midfield for this? I would in an instant!! It would make sense to update the team photo every 6 months or at the end of a transfer window.

They lost Flamini and Gilberto aswell so thats a chunk out of the midfield. But as you say Eduardo will be back at one point (if he is the same player), plus Van persie was out for the most of last season so thats like a new signing. Also Rosicky will be back soon, who again, will be like a new signing.

Gerrard would get in my Premier League XI for sure. I dont think Benitez liked Riise too much. Another team with an impressive midfield on paper is West Ham but the defence there lets us down badly.

Yeah they dont sound bad players but they will be unproven to begin with. Riise leaving is a loss and i read today that Arbeloa is heading back to Spain. But the midfield is looking good, like the 4th best in England

He's still the best striker we have at the club though and if it means he gets us into the CL then so be it. he may redeem himself a bit by this.

You just said it yourself, you dont know too much about the players they have signed - so thats where Im coming from. The players they have signed coud be absolute average at best. They certainly arent exactly Ashley Cole or Patrice Evra or we would know about them. Plus Agger and Carragher are not a patch on Vidic & Ferdinand, Terry & Carvalho or Gallas & Toure.

Naismith is out for almost the season Jon. Im sure it was originally a 12 month injury which was 2 months ago now. Once Beasley and Cuellar are back it makes us look stronger but we have to get a replacement for Ferguson

Yip as mentioned on the other thread its a great signing for Liverpool. He has the quality to walk into their starting XI. I still dont think they are near good enough defensively or in the wide areas to match Chelsea or Man Utd, plus their strength in depth is way short of those 2.

I agree McGregor should also start. If he was out the team due to a dip in form then yes he would have to win his shirt back but at the start of a season the message for the team should be that our strongest players will play. I can see WS going with somethig near Cammys first XI except I can see Broadfoot at RB with Whittaker in midfield in place of Novo. Thats certainly not a move id make. Its a tough one to pick but my team would be: McGregor Whittaker Dailly Weir Papac Novo Hemdani Thomson McCulloch Velicka Cousin

Pete, do you think he would be worth paying 1m for him compared to 3.5m for Davis? He is one player I quite fancy and think we should go for. Im sure PSV would maybe take around 700k for him if they want him off the books.
