Commentators pronouncing things "wrong"
Gribz replied to Super_Ally's topic in General Football Chat
You dont half pick out things to be argumentative and your post is bizarre. You've got what I said WAY wrong. Your infact the one translating team names when I said we shouldnt. We should pronounce them as we say it, not translate. For eg...Real Madrid:- We say 'real' and not 'ray-al' Why would we transfer Caledonian to Scottish?? Are you saying Caledonian isnt a word in our language? -

For players names I agree with that. Its like Jenas used to be called Jen-us, and that requested it to be Jean-us. As for teams / countries then it should be how we say it in our language. -
Once again, huge weekend down south, with a super super Sunday in store. Aston Villa v Fulham - Fulham got a credible point at Anfield last weekend but I cant see them getting anything from 1 of the leagues best teams at the moment who are coming off the back of picking up 4 points from games against Arsenal and Man Utd. 2-0 home win. Middlesbrough v Newcastle - Boro have impressed me this season and if luck had been on there side earlier in the season they would be top 6. Newcastle are a bit stronger than earlier but still strugglers. 1-1 Stoke v Hull - Hulls bubble seems to have burst as they havent won in 5 but this game may be to there liking. Stoke will see this as a great chance to gain another 3 home points. Tough one to call. 1-1 Sunderland v Bolton - Bolton won at Boro last weekend while sunderland lost at home to West Ham. This wont be a pretty match at all. 1-0 Sunderland Wigan v West Brom - I like what Steve Bruce can do with limited resources and after beating Everton at home last week they will see this as a great chance for another win. West Brom are everyones favourites to go down. 2-0 Wigan Sunday, 30 November 2008 Man City v Man Utd - The first Manchester derby that says on paper City are the more wealthy but i dont buy that. Man Utd have the infrustructre in place already. This should be a cracking game as the likes of Robinho and Ronaldo will turn it on. 1-2 Man Utd Portsmouth v Blackburn - After almost beating AC Milan then conceding 2 late games, Tony Adams has to pick up his team to face free falling Blackburn. 1-0 Portsmouth Tottenham v Everton - Another home game for Spurs which could see them climb the table. Everton arent as strong as last year but still see the european places in sight. Tight game 1-1 Chelsea v Arsenal - The pressure is on Arsenal. if they sont win this then catching Chelsea will probably be beyond them. Tactially Wenger gets these games right until the last 20 mins then they seem to throw it away. Im going for a 1-0 win to the Arsenal. Monday Liverpool v West Ham - Banker away win.

A thumping like that would be superb but il settle for any kind of 3 points tomoro. Id also play Novo from the start. Im looking forward to it, its my early K/off on the telly tomoro night so few beers to watch it with.

My sister speaks spanish and always uses a TH, its correct but annoying. Anyway, ive noticed the english commentators calling Daniel Cousin like the relation and not Coozan... -
Bit of a mismatch on paper if this one was played a few years ago, but its amazing what can happen in football. Possibly Pompeys biggest ever game! Atmosphere should be cracking there tonight and i think it will be close.
-
Yeah was mainly meaning that although that only decides who plays who in the next round. But normally group winners have been decided after 4 games or 5 at the most
-
Id be easing that in this season in some games and keeping Weir for the likes of this saturday at Hearts and Celtic games. If WS could unearth another Bougherra type player for next season to partner MB then il be happier.
-
Speaking of which, is this on the cards in January??? Is he still looking for a move back? Id take him in an instant. Solves the Left side probably and would be brilliant through the middle with Miller or Boyd on there current form. Lafferty is that type of player at the moment (LM / centre forward)...but hasnt really started his career yet. PL did it in the big games and id prefer him.
-
And they havent exactly had a tough group bar Man Utd who havent been on top form either. Funny, i was just looking at the CL tables and only Barcelona have eased there group and are the only team with 4 wins in 5 games. Normally some teams stroll the group stages but most groups have still to be decided on the final day. Celtic are still rank though. The only other thing is they now dont have as many games so can concentrate on the league aswell.
-
Exactly. You can bet your bottom dollar if we go onto win the league and they win this game it will be brought up!!! Probably cost Strachan his job!
-
With Papac fit again it will be interesting to see who WS plays. I think he will keep Broadfoot and Whittaker. However id have Whittaker at RB and Papac at LB. Broadfoot filled in well at RB but its not the position he was signed for and id try him out next to Bougherra in the centre. I hope Whittaker doesnt get moved to midfield. I dont like him there as he is similar to Adam in that he will try something more difficult than the simple pass.
-
So we want Celtic to win this. Its a meaningless game so I dont mind backing them. However this could be a historic game. A match where Gers fans want Celtic to win but Celtic fans dont as it favours Scotland and Scottish teams and possibly Rangers....If it was the League of Ireland then im sure they would be trying a bit harder.
-
Dont get me wrong i didnt say he went onto be a better player, but he still had a better future than Simpson after that
-
Mcleish to follow after Dick?? And then Le Guen? Wouldnt say no to Advocaat returning at some point. His first 2 years were superb.
-
Cant we still get him a bit cheaper coz he is injured...im sure we'd all wait a few months for fitness
-
The laugh of the Durrant / Simpson thing is, Durrant still went onto have a much better career after that while that tackle practically ended Simpsons playing days. But If i ever needed to see a comment to prove that Aberdeen fans are living in past days then this one is it...An event that happened over 20 years ago! Half of the sheep support who sing that probably werent born or cant even remember the tackle. I barely remember it.
-
Agreed. If he isnt good enough then yes we wont want him in the team. Lets at least try first though.
-
That stumped me. And no wonder i use fractions. I thought 2.00 = 2/1 1.00 = even money
-
Just baffling why he doesnt get a game then, im only hearing good things about him. Is it because WS doesnt like to upset a change in the team? Hence playing players out of position.
-
Agreed. I didnt see much pace in Lafferty in the games i watched. I like Novo and would have him in the team somewhere. With Boyd being more mobile these days i can see Novo playing off him quite well - not nearly as well as he did with Prso though.
-
Crikey, I totally forgot about Webster. So he is coming back in January! - Will that be to sit on the treatment table? Always had a bit of hope for him though but not so much now.
-
Sorry Barry but thats a blind nonsense comment. Dont want to take the original topic away but as Einstein said "Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance"
-
I wouldnt say thats true. Not everyone has an agenda. If you knock someone down with your car by mistake and you happen to not like that person then you know you didnt do it on purpose, but others may suspect you did. Did you set out an agenda to knock that person down? Its amazing how some people can be awake to certain issues (probably due to investigation)..yet blind to others (probably due to assumptions).
-
Off topic here and im totally not saying anything against what you have put BD. But its the use of the word agenda!....Whenever i use this word for "others" such as the illuminati or elite why am i accused of being a conspiracy theorist!!! There are agendas in all walks of life from as high as Governments and Royal families to as low as Celtic FC.
