  1. Gary Stevens could fair whip a cross in aswell.
  2. I was out on the lash the night before...it kind of extended into the hours of the saturday. I woke up at 2-2 and then Lovenkrands scored. Plus I flicked over and saw parlours beauty as Arsenal beat Chelsea..A very ill day
  3. My two favourite cup finals would be 1993 and 1996. 1993 - I was getting dogs abuse at school in Aberdeen and we won 2-1 to clinch the treble. 1996 - It was just a Laudrup masterclass and Durie should take a bow also. The funny thing about this game was I was watching with my old man and he had a big bet on Rangers to win 4-1. When the 5th went in the cheering kind of dropped.
  4. A solid / No nonsense / Hard XI team could also be done. It would be interesting to know from the older posters whom in the 60s, 70s and early 80s wasnt afraid to put a boot in. With this I think you would get an accepted mixed side from all ages and generations. A few to kick off: Graeme Souness Terry Hurlock John Brown Ian Ferguson Duncan Ferguson
  5. Mark Walters and Neil McCann were both top quality crossers of the ball.
  6. Thats where Im at except Im including Advocaats first 2 years as well where I thought they were nearing going to another level. Plus for me personally thats when I started my season ticket so I did see this side in the flesh far more than the others. 92-93: Champions League Run. 44 game unbeaten run. Domestic Treble (and same players got the double the previous and next season). A Real Battle of Britain win both home and away. Provided the Golden boot winner. 95-97: 9 IAR and continuous domestic honours. Gascoigne & Laudrup were like a wet dream! Plus the Goalie and Coisty on top form and the Hammer coming in. This was the side on display when I started going regularly so much fond memories. Only downside was under achieving in Europe. 98-00: Going to another level to compete with the best in Europe. Ripped up things Domestically. Some absolute quality players. Mols - One of the most enjoyable players pre-injury. I thought Amato was quality but Advacaat said Mols is coming in to replace him - everyone was like 'who'? Very hard decision to make. But Im swaying at 92-93 as greatest. 95-97 as favourite.
  7. Favourite and Greatest are two different teams? Thats certainly my dilemma. IMO Id also say its a generation thing in the same way as who was the greatest player you have ever seen - I believe you have to witness the team.
  8. You could argue that some of the 91-97 team reached the Champions League Semi Final and only went out to the side who match fixed their way to victory. At the same time they went on something like a 44 game unbeaten run and won the treble in the same season. So the 92-93 team were a cracking side and just played fully as a team. Names you'd need to include who contributed that are not listed are Durrant, Mikhailichenko, Huistra, Neil Murray (scored in the cup final), Scott Nisbet (the classic fluke), Gary McSwegan, Trevor Steven.
  9. Alright mate. You have been chatting up too many gorgeous blondes to notice lol. Just use my XI. Its 8-0 every week ?
  10. Interesting. Ostenstad. Didnt he do well at Charlton though? Kevin Kyle all day long. Keeper - We have been blessed with keepers so this is tough and harsh. Ally Maxwell - 1994 Cup Final. Bollan An underrated XI could also be done. Ian Ferguson. Durie.
  11. Going to have to go against the norm and play a 3-5-2. Goram Weir Gough Moore Ferguson Laudrup Gascoigne De Boer Albertz Mols Hateley
  12. Still cant believe the boy hasnt been wacked. Either Southampton will come back and win about 8 games or the boy is gone. Ridiculous score. Compo / Scott - elders - you have seen worse.
  13. Oh my god.... Scott - you were well off old mate That has to end the reign of the hass.
  14. Good luck chaps, I'll put it all together on Sunday and see where where my tener has been lost.
  15. Im worried everyone is tipping West Ham, these are the sort of games where points will be dropped. Southampton 1-1 Leicester Man City 3-0 Aston Villa Brighton 1-1 Everton Watford 1-0 Bournemouth West Ham 2-0 Sheff Utd Burnley 1-1 Chelsea Newcastle 1-1 Wolves Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham Norwich 1-2 Man Utd
  16. Take a point in Porto every day of the week. And with 2 home games still to come its set up nicely. Happy with the line up also and SG made the perfect changes. I thought Docherty or Stewart before hand in place of Arfield but Barker coming in was the right move and in a 4-3-2-1 it was 11 square pegs 11 square holes.
  17. Why though? Whats the point in having a squad when you dont utilise it? What does it say to the bench when players dont perform for lengthy periods but they dont sit out? If SG seen enough him to sign him then his judgement should be he can be brought in. We cant afford only 7 or 8 players turning up against a club as good as Porto. Others deserve a chance.
  18. Great read in the OP. RE the starting XI I dont think its far off either in the post although Id perhaps like to see one from Aribo or Arfield sit out for Docherty. But I see SG going with as experienced team as possible. And Kent back in the starting XI will be great to see.
  19. There must be something in the Emirates managers office that puts a spell to play players in wrong positions and pick strange selections. Their best back 4 didnt start although Chambers did play but at RB. Id have Bellerin, Chambers, Holding and Tierney starting and I think that would improve them to prevent such goals. Everyone knows David Luiz can only play as a sweeper in a 5 man defence or a holding midfielder if its a back 4. Sokratas started half decent, he is probably suffering next to Luiz.
  20. And that 1-0 leapfrogged me above you and Compo from the weeks scores And VAR cost me victory with Spurs result.
  21. Seems to be a misconception (Created by our Bill) about compare from 5 years ago!!??? Whoa Whoa Whoa...I said just have a LOOK at where we WAS then...and how much a building job it is going to be. Set a timeline if needed..... Maybe my first post about intelligence on gersnet should be edited.
  22. Not sure who actually does that. If anything its the opposite. But if you cant see there WAS a mountain to climb which we are still climbing then you are not really reading the full picture.
  23. I think there was only one poster on the match thread yesterday who said its not the end of the world following yesterdays poor outing at Tynecastle. He is very much true as Celtic only came up stuck in their last visit to the capital. However its the manner in which points can be dropped which irks the Gers support - which this forum has intelligence in abundance. We are not silly when we identify things and see that tweaks can be made. I was very critical yesterday after the final whistle - which is when knee jerk reactions do tend to come out - I was thinking this morning that it was perhaps wrong as after the first OF game of the season where we didnt show we have actually been superb since scoring 17 goals and getting top of the league. At the same time we were extremely unlucky away in Switzerland in the Europa and should be sitting top of our group bar two slip ups. A couple of things from yesterday - Did the pressure of being top get to us? Was it the international break which derailed the form? Was it a one off? All questions to be answered against Motherwell next week. However short term memory isnt such a great thing. When we returned to the top flight a short time ago the rebuilding job to challenge a team playing regular CL football was always taking 3-5 years. We had disasters like Pedro "dont even want to google his last name" and it caused a set back. But a bit of perspective from where we was 5 years ago. Gerrard has come in and we are competing and challenging again - we are right in a title race! After a quarter of the season gone, despite losing the first OF game of the season we are level on points and goal difference at the top. Perhaps yesterday needs to be a lesson learned and its still only October so there is plenty time to rectify our wrongs.

A fair shout, with his experience would have added something coming off the bench. Would have seen what was lacking. Does it come down again to SG sticking too much with the same core of players? Trips to Edinburgh will always cause the odd blip for both Rangers and Celtic but when you see so many faults thats when it gets frustrating.
  25. Just listened to last nights gersnet podcast. Seems all on the same page. Couldnt agree more with Steven as he says there are too many guarantee picks - I never get this in football when a player is well off form over a collective period of substantial time.
