  1. First division teams dont get promoted to the SPL due to stadia criteria yet Motherwell have had the worst playable pitch (probably should be No.1 on the criteria list) for the last few seasons and now have to go to a lower league sides ground to play European games! You couldnt make it up! Only in the baffling world of the SPL! Motherwell should have been told to sort this pitch out 2 years ago.
  2. Tommy McLean not want to come back for an 18th stint in charge!! Butcher and Malpas to return after there relegation?
  3. Id take a 34 year old Sol Campbell over Webster every day! Campbell is still mobile and Webster can string 3 games together. Its the same as the saying 'if he is young enough he is good enough'...it can be reversed and applied to the elders..'if they are good enough they are young enough'. I havent once been impressed by Naismith but ive only saw him on the right or left wings and he struggled badly. Gow has baffling, but i wouldnt be surprised to see him regularly next season as a good player and we will all stand up and say why wasnt he played 2 years ago!
  4. I think you have hit the nail on the head with starting XI players. That makes a huge difference compared to the amount of bench warmers we normally sign, although last year was mainly starting players with Bougherra, Mendes, Davis and Miller. A partner for Bougherra is a must and should be top priority IMO. If he gets injured or suspened we will be desperate in that department as McCulloch isnt the answer, Broadfoot is out until Nov and Weir is 40 regardless of how well he did last season.
  5. Is Sol Campbell Iclandic?? But Hreidasson is same age as Campbell at 34 and would lack pace for centre half and wouldnt be better than Papac at LB IMO. This stage of the summer will be quiet until managers get back to the office and start to make decisions. Players have also just done another international week so they will only start going on holiday now also. Football-less summers are quite depressing but it makes the start of the season much better.
  6. Yeah Pete, i was just making the point that the SPL can cash on from overseas games also where the BBC didnt from selling off foreign rights. We should be looking at the Dutch system for most things, they are a small country who have produced wonderful footballers for the last 30-40 years. There system is miles ahead of the UK. I remember being on a train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam and couldnt believe the amount of quality football pitches - and they were all being used - despite very cold temps.

Marseille bought him for 5.5 million and we signed him back for 2.4m but Im not sure if that was becuase they hadnt paid the full amount in the first place. As for 1990 at tannadice...Im sure we won it there around the late 80s also...i remember seeing Butcher with one of those high hats celebrating there. We took over the stadium and had half the old terracing across from where the cameras are.
  8. Agreed, it might be a good move. Just because Blackpool arent glamorous doesnt mean to say they cant do well. Doncaster ended up mid table also. Yet the more glamorous clubs like Southampton, Charlton and Norwich all got relegated.
  9. Man U will go out and get Ribery as a replacement and have about 50 million to spare. It doesnt matter who Real Madrid sign they are always trying to be a team of individuals. You look at them winning 9 European titles but the first 5 were in the 60s so they are averaging out about 1 CL per decade despite all these silly transfer fees over the years. If i was a pro footballer id go to Barca way ahead of Madrid.
  10. Is Ronaldo worth 24 million MORE that Kaka??!!!!! Silly!

    hello

Welcome aboard. If there is anything you need dont hesitate to ask Jon. (Jon you must have forgot to include that this time)
  12. Agree with that Norris. He was more of a continential player who had more talent in one foot than others can dream off but just wasnt consistant. Wasnt given much of a chance after his lay off either.
  13. I thought Aaron looked good in the brief games he played. Would have liked to seen him get more of a chance. As for Campbell, if there was a veteren we could sign then he would be on the list. Top quality defender and professional. I think he could have done a job for us. Campbell and Bougherra!! Would have been alright!!
  14. Terrible shame. Anyone know how old he was?
  15. Good to see some stability at WH for a change. The club have been a bit of a rollercoaster on and off the park for a while. One week we could win 5-0 then get beat the same scoreline the next. But Zola and Clarke have installed a good bit of stability on the park, he we can just get 2 or 3 quality signings then we should be a top8 club all season in 09/10. I fear Robert Green leaving though. Superb keeper and i wouldnt be surprised to see arsenal knocking. Spurs were sniffing about aswell.
  16. Good move for Hughes, make or break in his management career. He does well he will go on down south like quite a few of the past Hibs managers, if he does poor it will be back to the likes of Raith. This is the next step up the ladder so we will see if he can make Hibs play some good football.
  17. Bruce likes his colliflower.
  18. That convinces me you a conspiracy nut
  19. As per Porno Pipers thread.......A sale for Boyder????????????

Dundee Utd might have been a bogey side over the last few years but am i right in saying we have won the title there 3 times since ive been following the Gers?? 87 97 - 9IAR...Hullo Hullo 09
  21. Picky bastard :box: If only Eck knew our potential we could be sitting on 7 in a row right now! Eh Gav! (answer the plane thread)
  22. Walter Smith was today boosted with the news that Gribz and Gazza8 will both be available for pre season training despite embarking on a lads weekend in Thailand all summer.
  23. Aye they have to do something! Its not right for some reason! Every other group has a San Marino type team also which is a banker 9 goals while we have tougher teams. If only Iweloomo (sp) scored!
  24. Hamburg? Didnt know that! i thought he went to the mhanks then Newcastle! Didnt realise he played that far back also, I would have guessed 1987. Im younger than i feel! Im sure the mhanks will still nip in and nick him
  25. He's certainly young enough!
