Marlon Harewood isnt as bad as people make out! As I said he was key for West Ham a few years ago. He has went downhill a bit but i can think of far worse players. Its a bit like Dailly. Dailly wasnt a bad signing and came with a worse reputation than anything else. But as a stop gap for centre half he was a decent signing. Playing him RB and upfront is a bit of a joke though! Id rather Dailly stayed than McCulloch TBH. He had a decent first few months with us but has now turned into one of the worst players we've got. But he still gets played if available in ANY position! The guy played left mid, centre half and centre midfield last season yet I think he is a striker!

Yip! and It certainly didnt help out cause with the pound going so weak.

Same, it does look better seeing the actual top. Still not a fan of umbro and V necks but this looks ok. Still, 40 quid for one season is poor from the club (and all clubs), i much prefer tops lasting 2 seasons. EDIT Random Comment - the first top I can think of that we had for 1 season was in 1996-97, 9IAR - the top that looked similar to the France shirt! That was one of the only tops i liked with a collar.

Cant believe Man U have signed this imposter! He is finshed! Ronaldo and Tevez out.....Owen and Valencia In....Thats definatly weakened the team. Valencia is a good player but nothing like Ronaldo, and Tevez is far more effective than Owen. Owen and Berbatov upfront wont scare any teams next season!! Sir Awex likes a gamble but he going to have to go get someone else if he wants to retain the title. The title is going to the Emirates!!! 8/1 is a steal!!

To improve it, id have a round neck and umbro written under their logo, the umbro logo looks strange on its own for some reason unlike adidas and nike. I know the carling logo is slanted but it would look better straight also

About time!! Not too keen on that TBH, no offence on your drawing Frankie The squares reminds me in the kit from 87-90 with McEwans lager! But that was a quality kit - my first Gers top!

I agree with this. I tend to hope Scottish teams do well in europe for the fact they are Scottish anyway. I just wouldnt want to see Celtic win a trophy or Aberdeen for that matter either. Id much rather see Motherwell beating a welsh side but its embarrassing if they dont. With Celtic its a win win situation. If they win its good for the SPL and our ranking points but if they lose then its great to see them get beat.

Tonel and Hutton would be terrific signings. We'd probably have out best defence in a long time if we got those 2. Kevin Kyle has to be the biggest joke ever! Id rather give Dailly a 5 year extension than sign Kyle! Harewood has went downhill. He was a key part of the West Ham team that got back up to the Premiership in 2005 by playing upfront with Sheringham. He scored plenty and was a workhorse. He would be a Darcheville type player now. Not really seen much of the others.

Have to say Im very happy to read this. I thought we lost a talented player when he was for the off. But agree with most comments so far...he needs to prove it now and that means WS has to give him a run in the team. He had 1 start last season which proves he hasnt had a chance. And i dont buy it when some people say "why do you think WS hasnt played him"...meaning he isnt good enough. Sounds like he is starring in this competition in Italy...anyone know what position he is playing??

Thats why i said forward line / stars ...And Messi is as much a winger as a forward :box:

I almost spat my coffee out this morning reading this on the BBC. If there is 1 player who has lady luck on his side then its Owen. For the last 5 or 6 years he has been awful after losing his pace. Some of his goals are flukes and mis-hits but he gets classed as a World class striker still!! At least Capello came straight in and dumped him for England knowing he wasnt a player. But off the park he is worth a fortune for being so poor. Newcastle have had about 3 good games out of him in 4 years yet pay him 110k a week and now he is linked with Man U....
-
Amatuer! If they ever wanted to put a damper on things prior to the season then thats it!! They could still go to Wales and win though.
-
I think we have a good blend of central midfielders who all can up and down the park. Davis is certainly 1 player who can play forward and get back deep into our own half. From what ive seen of Edu he can do the same. Mendes is more attack minded. Thomson is more so a holding player but I wouldnt class him a defensive type, he can get forward also, he is just more a tackling type. Dare i say it, even Ferguson would probably be better suited in a 4-3-3 IF he could let others play their game.

Not only that, they have to overturn a team who thumped them 6-2 last time out!!!
-
Im not so much a fan of 3-5-2 as i used to be. If you have 3 quality centre halfs then it can be used. England are the prime example of a team who should use 3-5-2. They always play players out of position to accommodate players, we've seen Gerrard and Rooney play left wing. But when you have a team of quality such as they do then they shouldnt worry about the defence so much especially when their full backs arent world class unlike the rest of the team. Having Terry, Rio and an other (choice of about 6) at the back is more then enough then they could have 1 holding midfielder (Carrick) and then Lampard and Gerrard can play in their natural roles (Gerrard gets back also) plus 2 wingers and they still get 2 strikers. With Gers its a bit different now. I still think its a good option for our midfield and it gets 2 upfront and even allows Boyd to play a poaching role. But in defence id worry about the mobility of Weir as a back 3 have to do a bit more work. Certainly if we had Cuellar and Bougherra in the team we could try it with Papac making up the 3. But Since Hutton turned into an awesome full back 2 years ago i leaned back more to having 4 at the back, but i prefer 4-3-3 at the moment.

I went with Barca as they scored over 100 goals last season and had that 3 set up to a T. Individually Real probably have the better players but we dont know if they will gel yet. PS, I clicked 4 options on the poll by mistake so threw in Falkirk incase they make a signing or 2.

Assuming Eto stays at Barca, who has the better forward line / stars. Messi, Henry, Eto v Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema
-
Benzema to Madrid -35m, That's 1/4 Billion Euros now!
Gribz replied to Cotter's topic in General Football Chat
I still think Barca are better organised and have a better team. Madrid have proved time and time again that world class individuals dont bring you success. Only with Zidane who is a top 5 player of all time made a difference to them in 2002. It will be closer and interesting this year though as they have signed Ronaldo and Kaka who are 2 of the best 3 players at the moment. Henry, Messi, Eto (if he stays) v Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema - Thats a poll i think! -
Squad player at best for me.

When teams play a 4-4-2 they will almost certainly have 2 wide players, so we have 3 central midfielders winning possession straight away against the oppositions 2 central players. We rely on our full backs looking after the 2 opposition wide players. Plus 2 of our strikers can come into wider positions when we dont have the ball which sets out a 4-5-1. 4-3-3 is a win win for me.
-
I like the 4-3-3. And it does solve problems in our midfield. As you mentioned we dont have a natural effective winger at the moment. We have been lucky over the years with great wingers from Cooper, Walters, Laudrup and McCann but the past few years has seen us play players out of position. Steven Davis would definatly benefit from 4-3-3. He suffers IMO playing wide right despite still doing a good job. He would be much more effective in a free role in the midfield. Having 1 holding midfield (with a back 4) is more than enough in the SPL and that will let the other 2 midfielders join in with the front 3 to go forward. But having a front 3 can bring up the Kris Boyd debate again. He is only suited to a 4-4-2 IMO. When playing a 4-3-3 you sometimes need 2 of your strikers to come wide and your main striker to come deep at times. I definatly think we have the personnel to have a 4-3-3 and cause teams a lot of trouble. Having 3 pacey forwards automatically makes the opposition defence cautious. As they say the best defence is a good offence, so having 3 strikers like Miller, Lafferty and Novo would give defenders a nightmare IMO. Depending on who we sign this summer then id favour the 4-3-3.

Should I have included Graham Roberts??
-
Thats right, Nicky Walker.

Just on from my post in the masters thread got me thinking about all the keepers Ive seen since watching Gers. Its a position where we have had some top top notch keepers and some shockers. Woods was the first i really remember then on from there. Who was before him? Peter McCloy?? I always miss someone obvious out. Chris Woods Colin Scott Bonni Ginzburg Andy Goram Ally Maxwell Theo Snelders Antti Niemi Thomas Mhyre Andy Dibble Lionel Charbonnier Stefan Klos Ronald Wattereus Letizi Alan McGregor Neil Alexander

I used to watch it every year, its good entertainment. I get hyped for the OF games in it. Would prefer to see more than 4 teams in it. Aberdeen, Hibs, Motherwell and an other would make it better. And 2 teams should go through to play the British masters. Walters will be a miss, he is always the outstanding player in the tournament. There is no Bobby Prytz also this year, he normal plays. Stuart McCall will be a good addition as is Dodds and Mols. But surely we could get a better keeper than Dibble?? Whats Ginzburg or Letizi doing??? :fish: But id have went for Niemi, Snelders or Charbonnier if Klos and Goram werent available. Even Ally Maxwell had a better ibrox career than Dibble. Hearts have a decent team. Cant believe Henry Smith is still playing for them though, he must be about 73 by now!
