  1. That was unlucky. Close but no cigar as they say. West Ham form has ended, ran out of steam at the last furlong. Top 4 was a tough ask but 5th would have been great. Now if Spurs win today it will be a fight with Everton for 7th.
  2. Poor first half, better second half. Cracking goal from Leicester and Schmeichel had two McGregor esk saves. When Mount hit his shot it was in but what a save. The VAR decision is laughable, thats the closest one ive ever seen. Well done Leicester - I hope they go on and finish top 4. Its good to see the top 6 being split up.
  3. Holy shit - thats awesome. Ive watched that about 100 times. What a bouncy.
  4. Predictions were in the Premier League thread but perhaps a wee FA cup thread of its own. For me the FA Cup has really been diluted in the last 15 years. I cant think of a good final since the new Wembley has been open, perhaps the Arsenal comeback against Hull in 2014. Various reasons for the dilution for me. 1) Its become more commercialized and doesnt need to be. 2) Other competitions have made it less interesting. 3) The 5pm kick off is just wrong, it should be 3pm all day long. it looks more like the Community Shield these days rather than the FA cup final 4) The new Wembley itself doesnt have the same feeling as the old Wembley, even Cardiff was a much better venue for the 6 finals it held. 5) Additionally the semi finals at the likes of Villa Park added some spice. However for some reason todays fixture has a good feeling about it and will have two very good sides really wanting to win it. That said I went for 0-0 but it could easily be 2-2. A big boost is there will be 20,000 in the ground to give it some atmosphere, as good as that is it will still not be a quarter full. I'll still opt for Leicester to lift the cup on pens.
  5. Magic. Was certainly my vote. Some of his saves have been out of this world. He has put in 10/10 performances. I was a massive Klos fan but in the last 18 months McGregor has easily surpassed Der Goalie. There was an argument during his first spell if he was as good. But this season he has been that good it has been mooted if he is Gers best ever keeper - going beyond 'The Goalie'. I loved Goram massively but characters aside and purely as a keeper I have to think McGregor now will go down as 'The' No.1. - this would be an interesting forum discussion alone. Kent, Barisic, Goldson, Tavernier and Davis have all been fantastic and there is an argument for everyone of them as best outfield player. When Kent hits form and produces 10/10 games nobody in the league can touch him. Barisic is a constant 8/10 every game and his deliveries have been brilliant - he is a class act. Goldson - A rock and a leader even without the captains armband and played every minute - he will go down as part of the defence that broke records. Tavernier - first half of the season especially was on fire and his goalscoring record even with pens is ridiculous for a full back. Integral this season. I was actually think someone like Arsenal could come in for him he was playing that well. Will go down as the captain that stopped their 10. Davis - what can you say - except an example to all players. Not only that outfield 5 though - the full squad deserve their recognition this season.
  6. A bit of an goal fest at St James' in what was obviously a match with nothing on it.
  7. Final moved from Istanbul to Porto. Obviously a move that benefits UEFA and its sponsors more than the two clubs. Hosting it in England was easily the best option. Even more baffling is the Super Cup later in the year likely to be moved from Belfast to Istanbul despite the final likely to be between two English Clubs. Either Chelsea or Man City will likely play Man Utd unless Villarreal win the Europa - UEFA have offered this to Istanbul along with the 2023 CL final.
  8. Never actually been a fan of Durham with his controversies which are clearly sometimes for winding up people, but he is very Pro Rangers which is obviously great. But here what he says is very correct - we haven't just snatched the title on the last day - we have mauled this title away from them in record time after a massive rebuild where only a few years ago we were still struggling in the likes of Luxembourg. That is why Gerrard eased the Manager of the year award: The almost unbeaten season (should be able to edit almost tomorrow) The terrific Euro run two years in a row - completing with good European sides The team / weekly XI is a well oiled machine which we saw in 92-93 and 98-00 - which includes a defensive record is simply phenomenal Power has not only been restored in the OF games - we have been light years ahead of them recently. I think I'll go onto talksport listen again feature and see if there was a meltdown of callers ?
  9. Compo - Spurs v Wolves is also on Sunday - get Dolly to have a bash at that one also
  10. Firstly what a dour game with Villa and Everton. How many chances have Everton had to get into 5th and never take it. Massive win for Liverpool and its very likely they will sneak into the CL spots now if they win their last 3 games. Leicester on 66 can get onto 72. Chelsea on 64 can get to 70. Liverpool on 60 cant get to 69. Chelsea and Leicester have to meet in the league meaning both cant reach their max points tally available. Personally Im hoping Liverpool have a slip somewhere but I just see them sneaking in as its 3 very winnable games. Anyway onto this weekend. Newcastle 0-3 Man City Burnley 1-1 Leeds Southampton 2-1 Fulham Brighton 0-2 West Ham Crystal Palace 1-2 Aston Villa Tottenham 2-1 Wolves West Brom 0-2 Liverpool Everton 2-0 Sheff Utd FA Cup Final Chelsea 0-0 Leicester Leicester to win on Pens.
  11. Yes - congrats SG and credit to the full management team. Almost an unbeaten league campaign and a great Euro run - fully deserved.
  12. Yeah very worthy over the course of the season. After Oct / Nov nobody could touch them as they went on that long unbeaten run. I still think they were better two years ago and the points tally says the same but they have got more steel about them this season and played most of the season without an out and out striker. They will have a bit work to do in the summer to get a striker - Sir Alex strengthened his team after every title win and the way Chelsea are improving they are going to have more wins on the board next season - so City will need one marquee signing IMO.
  13. Totally forgot about games last night. Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal Aston Villa 1-1 Everton Man Utd 2-2 Liverpool
  14. Guaranteed Whosthedado will provide us with the worst XI. Steven - over to you son.....
  15. Love it Love it. Shouldnt this be a thread I should start though? ? Im working on my XI. Surely I can bring Jeffers back?
  16. Ive got Michael Owen on the box who has gained masses of weight....Now Nicky Summerbee - bit of an arrogant dick. Keys and Grey will be on shortly - legends.
  17. Will reply tomorrow mate. But yeah agreed. What do I know Wolves hit a double. Nuno is actually the manager Spurs need.
  18. The move to bring Tuchel in place of Lampard - masterstroke. Chelsea are actually looking frightening. Playing like this then I think they will win the league next season - at a canter.
  19. Will reply to the latest posts shortly. I just woke up from a scary vodka pitch. Watching Wolves v Brig-hit-on at the moment. Potter is very impressive but he cant surely be a Spurs manager. I love you all gersnetters. Vodka loyal.
  20. Interesting. I dont recall Ray Stewart though - did he play for Dundee Utd? I will need to search. But I remember Liam Brady spraying balls around like it was a training exercise. My fave West Ham player of that era was Stuart Slater - he used to destroy defenders. then he went to Celtic and it finished him. I was a junior hammer and was on the pitch when Billy Bonds took charge.
  21. Well hump me sideways...Leicester 2-4 Newcastle. Where did that come from.
  22. Scott / Compo West Ham probably had a team you guys would appreciate that day I first went to Upton Park. Big Phil Parkes in goal, Alvin Martin centre half, Tommy McQueen (ex aberdeen) Ray Stewart (I really dont remember much about him) Liam Brady in his final year. McAvennie.
  23. Whats your like about them MrScott if I may ask? They have been a bit of a yoyo club and border the line about being an all Premier league club. My very first West Ham game was WBA at home in 1989 and WBA won 3-2 at upton park. I did go to the Hawthorns the next season and West Ham won 1-0..a certain Frank McAvennie was playing up top in his second spell.
  24. Villa Park bidding to take the CL final rather than going to Istanbul - makes sense especially with empty grounds. Villa Park should still be used for FA Cup semi finals. Man Utd v Villarreal in the Europa Final - Arsenal were poor and bar Aubameyang's half chances they didnt look like scoring. It is the Unai Emery cup - his 5th final. But after watching them Man Utd have nothing to fear and should win that comfortably. I think it will be a Manchester double on the Euro fronts.
