  1. I think thats a cracking signing for Liverpool. They only had 2 match winners in Gerrard and Torres, Cole is a class player and improves them. Benyoun was a decent player but 2 years old than Cole, so to sell him for 6 million and get Cole on a free can justify the wages.
  2. I suppose it still depends if there will be further outgoings as to which positions need filled the most. Its went a bit quiet on Bougherra's future and touch wood I hope it remains that way. I still think a winger is priority, thats the one position where we dont have a natural player. Looking at the majority of the squad as it is at the moment: Keepers are fine - McGregor and Alexander. In the finanical mess we are in I dont think we can ask for better than that. Centre halfs: Weir - Signed on for another year and his calmness and composure will play a huge part. I also think Weir had a huge part to play in Wilson's success last season. Bougherra - Key man and fingers crossed he stays. As Ive mentioned he could even play midfield. Webster - Had a good season as Dundee utd, been a fiarly good player everywhere he has been except Ibrox. This could be his season. Broadfoot - Decent move to keep him on as he can fill in well at RB if needed. Just needs to learn how to take throw-ins. Wilson - Will be interesting to see if he can continue last seasons good form. Full Backs: This is an area we are low in. Whittaker - I actually prefer him at LB but would have Papac ahead of him. He can play either side which is key. There is a chance we could see him as a wide midfielder with Papac and Broadfoot making up the full back roles. Papac - Consistant performer who always does a good job. Midfielders: Davis - Key man! Edu - He should get his chance and he has the ability to be a good box to box player. McCulloch - One of WS's favourites. He wasnt too bad last season in midfield, he can also play in the left and upfront. Just dont want to see him in defence again. Fleck - Big season for Fleck. Would like to see him given a free role. Strikers: Miller - Key man for me. Work rate is brilliant, attitiude is brilliant and he got about 17 goals last season. If he was a better finisher he would be superb. Lafferty - Should be played through the middle. Big season for Kyle and needs to mature a bit, if he does i still think we have a player! Naismith - I dont rate Naismith especially on the wings. He gets about but doesnt have an end product. Could be an ok squad player. Velicka - Has a good scoring record but has a lot to prove. Missed out 1 or 2, especially the young ones who may feature but I dont know enough about them.
  3. Im all for the best players playing for Scotland regardless which club they come from and McGregor is one of the best available. There isnt much between Gordon and McGregor, they are slightly different in styles where McGregor seems to have more of a pressence but Gordon is better at handling but they are both great shot stoppers. He is likely to get booed buy the ignorant groups of so called fans but he can blank them out and concentrate on doing well for his country. Gordon seems to be permanetly injured in the last few years though, shame as he hasnt shown Sunderland his best yet.
  4. Harper is a good keeper, been very loyal to Newcastle aswell after sitting behind Given for years. Could all change if they signed McGregor though.
  5. Celtic v Tottenham would be a cracking game!! Would be great if Robbie Keane or Craig Bellamy (rumoured to be on his way to Spurs) netted the winner for Spurs. Yet Ive a disklike for both teams and if Celtic played them it would be a win win situation. If Celtic win the SPL would get 1 over the EPL but if they lose there is more TV cash for us. But Im way ahead of myself, they have to get past Braga first.
  6. 1st leg in Portugal mate. Hopefully the Braga get a nice goal or 2 lead. If Celtic get past Braga arent they going to be unseeded meaning they have to play the likes of Arsenal???
  7. Was he good?
  8. Well I meant SPL players :box:
  9. I felt thats a bit unfair on Novo, he would have signed for a slight increase plus a longer deal yet would still have been a low earner. Not sure on Thomson, I get the feeling he wasnt looking for a move, can anyone shed light on that?? Thats concerning considering we cant offer deals to anyone and only have a small budget for new players. Thats depressing!
  10. Loans depend on if they player is looking for a contract after the spell then you see them give their all. Holman might be a decent addition short term but a permanent signing would be more appealing.
  11. I suppose looking at the other names like Ajax, Kiev and Zenit we were hoping for one of them and showed Braga looked weaker on paper
  12. I kinda hope they do quite well also. Despite Strachan managing Celtic I actually quite like him. But 1 or 2 of his signings like Flood and Miller arent top Scottish players IMO.
  13. Not sure what your point is. Are you saying Alexander is or is not worth 1.5m??
  14. Jammie Bastards!
  15. Im sure i read 9 from the SPL and 7 from the OF.
  16. I just wonder what the Middlesboro fans are thinking about half the SPL signing for them. They are making Cardiff look like they havent looked at the SPL before!! :fish:
  17. Even if he does he must be about 50.
  18. Debut against Spurs! Should be interesting! Wenger doesnt half know when to sell a player though does he! Henry started ok at barca but has been average since! Henry could still do a job in any top league in Europe so its a surprising move but he must fancy the nice pension. Plus he wouldnt want to play for any other club in England other than Arsenal. Certainly in the top 10 of all time Premiership players but its probably the end we will see of one of Europes best. Terrific player and good luck to him in the US.
  19. Was away to post this. If the avoid Braga and Fenerbache then they have a tough match. Hopefully they get Kiev, Zenit or Ajax.
  20. Not for me. McGregors form pre UEFA cup final was outstanding and he got back to near his best last season, that save in the OF game at parkhead was incredible. Id rather off load Alexander for maybe 1.5 million and get another back up keeper than sell mcgregor.
  21. Im going to check if they are playing any games so I can go along and watch him to see how good / poor he is.
  22. Mcgregor moving wouldnt surprise me as we would get a decent fee plus its been speculation all summer. However Id be very surprised to see Miller leave. I hope they both stay though, both are key players.
  23. RE the Thomson sale, its a surprising one that I didnt think would happen. I know quite a few on here rated him and like him but he didnt over impress me but I still thought he would improve. Its just concerning how low our numbers are, if Edu, Davis or McCulloch pick up a knock or are suspended then we have nobody! Im hoping Bougherra doesnt move on and I could see a place for him in the midfield if need be. Weir, Webster and possibly Wilson are fine at the back so Bougherra in midfield is an option, he is capable of driving runs.
  24. This is the sort of move which actually wouldnt surprise me, the only thing that doesnt add up would be the wages. Perhaps Bullard didnt fancy Celtic at all but saw the class of Ibrox and Murray Park and it took to his liking. Bullard can be a decent player, he has had a couple of terrible injuries rather then being injury prone - similar to Thomson. He gets about the park and can score some crackers.
  25. Why didnt we keep Novo??!!! Small increase in wages yet would still have been lower than what we offered Boyd and Eagles yet a good all round player who would always give 110%. Baffling!
