Werent Lyon top of their league when we went there and won 3-0? Cant remember how PSG were doing when we knocked them out in Paris under Advocaat. Marseille were top notch but we drew with them in 1993 so we dont have a bad record in France. The French league blows hot and cold, it has produced a number of good teams over the years. But Id rather be playing against French sides than Spanish or further eastern european sides.

Another 6-0 Jelavic 2 Diouf 2 Edu Bougherra

Hindsight says he has played on 1 year too many but can it be argued WS has ruined him this season in playing him non stop??? Going into a season with about 5 defenders is dreadful but knowing 1 of them is 40 and has to be played slowly is another thing. Cracking centre half on his day, and wish we got him 12 years ago but it doesnt auto qualify him for management material.
-
In fact...Totti you thought we were out in this round but yet we came all good.
-
Mr Negative at it again You just look for faults. We all know things arent the same as ten years ago, but get over it and support the team. I can understand if you criticise formations etc Would you have posted the exact same thing 3 years ago at this stage?? Sporting are horrendous, but Portugal in general and supposed underachivers but havent won a thing. Lille are a french pub team. Sampdoria are still building. The peaks of the early 90s are a long gone from them. they have a good reputation but i cant even name 1 of there players these days. Dont get me wrong every one of those leagues have better set ups and structures but Id say we are as good a team as any.
-
I wouldnt put money on it either with how bad i am at backing teams. But yeah its all close ones and PSV isnt the worst draw at all, id rather be going there than Ukraine or Russia.
-
Some good games there meaning a few of the better sides will go out. The Competition may come alive now that the first 18 rounds are out the way. IMO its a last 8 of: Benfica Man City Zenit Porto Rangers Bayer L Ajax Liverpool

And helped by McGeady of all people. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/scot_prem/9407038.stm

Half agree with your point about not having a run upfront, and Id prefer to see him playing as the old Number 10. but half the time he has been injured is because of his own silly antics.
-
Calscot is right. Miller would chase balls down but was classed as a headless chicken for doing so. It was the wrong decision to let him go and could end up being more costly than the fee we got for him as we are now the ones doing the chasing. Im hoping Diouf can step up and be the one who gives everyone a lift. Was impressive in his first few games but needs to get better.
-
Was going to say 0-0 but I'll change my mind and go for a 3-0 Gers win.
-
Nope....we just have to win our games in hand, win the last OF game and then better the other games than them.
-
Read again. I said 'Either' ONE (not won :robbo:) of the games was a ONE off
-
Id be happy for the planning ahead to be kept inside for such issue. Not only motivation but running out of ideas and the same players being used week in week out. We do still have 2-3 months to turn it around though.

I think a definate conclusion is that it was wrong of WS to announce he will be stepping down at the end of the season and it was wrong to confirm McCoist will be his replacement. Not only was it wrong but it was done far to long in advance.
-
Speaking of Gough, I wonder if he and Goram etc are sitting right now thinking the same as us posters that this season could pan out like 1998. If so they should be calling Ws and AM up and flagging up the wrongs from that season. I wonder if McCoist is also thinking it.

Something needs changed and if its the formation to see if gets a spark then give it a try. Either the Motherwell 6-0 was a one off or the OF defeat was a one off. But based on certain players performances it is more likely the 6-0 win was a one off. We have plenty of strikers who are fresh and actually needing game time to get fully match fit - Diouf, Jelavic, Fleck, Healy and Lafferty so playing 2 upfront would make a bit of sense. At the back put Bartley next to Bougherra and we have 2 pacey centre halfs which mean we can move further up the park. Id even suggest moving Papac to centre half and using Foster at full back as its a fact that Weir just isnt going to gain 3 yards of pace between now and May. The best we can hope from Weir is to have a week or 2 off and be used in home games against the poorer SPL sides. When is Broadfoot back anyway? Cant believe that we have missed him!
-
Wilkins would be my first choice also. He is a bit like Steve Clarke that he is a better No.2 than No.1 but just having around the place would put in such a lift.
-
Would prefer a bigger name but will wait and see how McCoist does first. One thing I think is that he needs a good assistant to come in. No disrespect to McDowall but I think you need a team of 3 with 1 having big experience. I think thats whats worked well for McLeish last year at Birmingham, he brought in Roy Aitken as well as Andy Watson who was bit out of his depth IMO.
-
Id probably take Strachan over McCoist at the moment but the thoughts on McCoist are guess work at the moment. He might end up being good. But agree with Juffery, Willkins along side him would be a cracking appointment. However fresh faces would be my preference. Michael Laudrup or Martin Jol are pipe dreams.
-
The worst thing is WS will continue to play him for the rest of the season expecting him to get better. The guy is finished and suffering burn out due to so many games.
-
Played 1 season too much mate. Would have retired an absolute star last summer but this year has caught up on him. Probably not his fault as WS has used him as if he is 19 plus Andy Webster couldnt manage to pull on a jersey. Weir needed to be used sparingly like Alex ferguson uses Giggs and Scholes but Weir has played almost every game.
-
There is a few guys in England who just pop up everywhere, have a nightmare then get jobs elsewhere. Micky Adams is probably the top candidate. Aidy boothroyd Paul Jewell (although has had the odd decent run with a club) Gary Megson (started off rank at Sheff Wed) Ian Dowie - maybe knocks Micky Adams off top spot. Paul Hart Any others?

Cracking end to the match yesterday, 119th min equilizer for Everton with a cracking free kick then Everton go on and win on pens with Ashley Cole missing. Anelka showing his mood swings again with a pass back of a pen.
