  9. Yeah but Robbie Fowler IS in the Glasgow this time
  10. But as for the hunt for a striker is concerned, Im not too sure why WS likes to have about 6 strikers available when he barely plays 2 together. At one stage in 2009 we had about 9 strikers including Darcheville, Cousin, Velicka etc. Unless he expects Beattie to continue being junk then a striker may be needed but who is the big question!
  11. I can well see Millers view. A 30-40% drop would have meant what 10-14k / week? After tax thats 5-7k and not that much for a footballer going into his last 3-4 years before not earning big bucks anymore. If anyone on here was asked to take a paycut of that percentages im sure we'd tell the boss where to stuff it.
  12. This should be moved to Football chat. But if he continues the way he has been this season I say 5-10 before the season is out, and more than Boyd has got at Boro
  13. If the clubs agree a fee for transfer then the player can discuss terms. If he was to sign for them in the summer and remain with us until then, then the other rules kick in. However I doubt ANY player wouldnt discuss what is potentiall on offer for them, it just woudlnt be revealed. Im on the side of "Thanks Kenny and good luck". He was offered a PAY CUT by us or a whopping wage 3 times what we offered tax free so I have no problems him going for this. The rumours have been doing the rounds for months that the club were asking him to take a pay cut yet last year we offered Boyd to be our top earner....and for me Miller makes / does more for the team than boyd did. As for new signing....your right WS is going to have to find the loan ranger but Id still say we'd be better covering defence and midfield before our forwards. Its more of a case of asking someone else to step up to the mark. This was asked when Boyd left and Miller grabbed the chance. I bet nobody in August would have said Miller could get 22 goals by Christmas!! Now its up to Jelavic, Lafferty, naismith, Fleck and others to get double figures before May or a combined variation from everywhere as it was in 2002 where we scored 102 goals from all over the place.
  14. I prefer to judge a player after he has had a run of games in his preferred position. Lafferty almost hasnt had that. The best example has to be Craig Moore. He was booed during WS' team in the 90s when he was put in the midfield and was awful. Advocaat signed him back as a centre half and he was a cracking defender who was liked.
  15. Id go with that team. But agreed its a worrying one on paper. Its a cup final for Hearts, if they win this they are right in the title hunt, if we win then they could be out of it so long as we win games in hand. IMO In a game like this the best form of defence is to attack.
  16. As nobody wants to reduce the league to 10 teams (apart from the SPL) then 1 scenario that has been totally over looked is to keep things as it stands at the moment (12 teams) but make it 2 up (from Div 1 / SPL2) and 2 down. a) it makes the teams in Div 1 / SPL2 have more to fight for. b) it gains a extra club every season (2-6 clubs over the years) extra revenue. c) the SPL 1 will have more of a fight at the bottom rather than 1 team being stranded. Throw in a early July start and a winter break for rearranged games and it would improve what we currently have. A play off system has to come in somewhere, this could probably be between the teams in 2nd - 4th in the SPL2 to go up with the team that wins the league.
  17. Yip but if you look at their line ups they have the midfield bang on, especially Spurs at the moment with 2 excellent wingers and 2 solid box to box midfielders including creativity. The 4 in the midfield are as important as anything for a 4-4-2 to work. But we have McCulloch who is an adopted striker, winger, defender and midfielder playing the holding role, Davis who cant make his mind up if he is a CM or RM and we play a right winger on the left. Go back to Advocaats 4-4-2 and an average striker like Rod Wallace banged in goals because the 4 in midfield was a proper 4 man midfield.
  18. Ive always previously thought Lafferty has a bit of talent in the locker but it was his attitude and immaturity that was holding him back. But Im beginning to doubt if he does have a bit of talent after all. With Miller all but gone its a chance for Lafferty to step up to the plate and take a bit of responsibility especially with a few younger guys like Ness, hutton and Fleck chasing a 1st team place. If he doesnt grab this opportunity then we should bin him.
  19. Jelavic and Miller started to work well before Jelavic's injury so 2 up top can work but its a formation that is going a bit out of date unless its played direct with playes in their correct positions. Plus the 2 upfront MUST click with each other and know what each other is going to do. Over the years partnerships like Hateley and Mccoist, Yorke and Cole etc were almost telepathic. Id say our best option is a front 3 at the moment with Naismith and Weiss included in that as wide / creative players.
  20. Cant remember trying to sign Tamudo. The one I remember who all but signed was Jardel. I remember seeing him in the Main Stand 1 game and we never saw him again.
  21. Absolutely no thanks. Id rather get Velicka back than Boyd. Miller will be missed but we still have good numbers upfront with Jelavic, Lafferty, Naismith, Fleck and Beattie. If anything we still need a centre half unless Webster stays fit now, or a full back, but Broadfoot cant be far away from returning. I have enough trust in Ness and Hutton in the centre midfield to cover McCulloch, Edu and Davis. In the wide positions Weiss seems to be onto a game and the chap Kerkar could be done with a run. Wylde and Foster can also play advanced roles. Obviously things get ugly if we get a few injuries.
  22. Good luck to him. Im a fan of his and thought he was a good player, did well to return to the club when a number of fans slated him and he did well for the few years. Not only is his 22 goals vital this season but he made a number of goals for the likes of Boyd last season. Agree with barry the personal reasons are a bit false coming from a millionnaire, I know first hand what its like to move abroad into the unknown with nothing yet he will walk into a luxury house etc with plenty zeros in the bank account. Someone is going to have to step up and get themselves double figures between now and May. Jelavic and Naismith are surely the new front pairing.
  23. When the spot light is moved off Ferguson and he isnt the certain of attention nor the man who has to do everything then he is no doubt a good player. He has shone at Birmingham and I always thought he played better for Scotland than Rangers coz it wasnt all about him. He'd be silly to go to Turkey though.
  24. Sunderland must be rubbing their hands at 24 million for an average striker. They are 6th in the league with an average team, if Bruce can spend that money wisely they will finish top 6. Villa will still be in a relegation fight.
