Great moment that showed how much they cared. But got to back Gazza up on this one, he did a run and laid a ball and it was Coisty who never matched it, or went the other way....cant say Gazza went out of the game. There is another classic semi final for me that I just absolutely loved.....scroll forward to 2min 41 secs

Nah Im still lost. And this will be my last explanation because if anything its your posts which has derailed the thread. To me your post was a knee jerk reaction and you couldnt resist the temptation of having a go. There was absolutely no references to Boyd's career or game at all. All that was said was McCoist has been compared to Boyd in the past as goal poachers and I purely said this is a insult to McCoists game / career / style of play. I mentioned look at McCoist videos in the 80s and 90s and the standard of opposition - that is all McCoist related. He has never been compared to Flo, Mols, Durie or Hateley, they all had different styles. The only other striker that might have got a mention on style of play is Billy Dodds, who was a fine poacher, but couldnt lace Allys boots. I think McCoist had the reputation of just being the No.9 tap in type of striker, which for 80% of his career is maybe correct, but I feel there is disjuctice and Ally was a far better all round player than he was given credit for. Goals like setting Gazza up at Parkhead are an example (below), his run away from the defender and pass was inch perfect as Gazza ran the length of the pitch.

Nottingham Forest name Alex McLeish as new manager

I do agree with the 40 day point in general for sure. But to come in and make a team play so bad instantly takes some doing, including getting beat by lower league sides in the cup. Id expect a manager to come in and keep the rowers going then improve on it, not to take the sail out of it. -
Aye ok then, really not sure where you are coming from here. I'll reword my sentence shall I "One of the biggest insults to McCoist is anyone comparing xxxx former player with him"
-
Astounded. Have you even opened your curtains in the last 25 years?
-
In MY opinion, if McCoist has been compared to Boyd in the past then defending that comparising merits Ally in every way. This thread is all about how good McCoist was not how bad some have compared him.
-
Where is Ben Foster going then.
-
His form right now is as good as any in Europe but he is getting way ahead of himself, Ronaldo has done it week in week out for about 8 years for Man Utd and Real Madrid. Ronaldo hit about 30 goals in his last season for Man Utd. Bale is on the right track but has to do it for longer than 20 games. Id say he is a more direct player than Ronaldo.

That Kiev atmosphere sounded awesome, its a shame we allow the authorites to take that kind of atmosphere away these days. One of the biggest insults to McCoist is anyone comparing Boyd with him. When you watch videos of McCoist especially in the late 80s and early 90s you can see he wasnt just a poacher, he was far more mobile with masses more effort, he got involved far more and had much more ability in his all round game and he was playing against a higher standard of opposition then.

Taking over a club who is in good form and pushing up the league then turning them the other way to win only 1 game in 7 against the bottom club says it is enough time. And then coming out with this: -

Christmas comes late for Forest then. -
16000, Pittodrie's biggest crowd of the season. If Levein was still in charge I really doubt Scotland would have won that match. Well done Chesney, good start.
-
Billy Davies on his way back to Forest by the looks of things. He's a man I think who has a very realistic chance of taking over from McCoist whenever AM moves on but like you not my top choice.

1. Scotland v Switzerland Euro 96 screamer followed closely by 2. Leeds away followed closely by 3. The over head against Hibs in the league cup final in 1993. This one was magic as it was his first game back from the broken leg he got against Portugal in the summer. He'd only been on the pitch about 5 mins.

How feesible is applying for a move to the Blue Square Premier League? If the SPL and Co go ahead with the no change 12 team set up will he still reject joining the SPL?
-
Ive never bought this one where we cant support Scotland as Celtic players are in the team, that for me is lowering to the levels of other fans who boo Rangers players. However in the case of Liewell being bum chums with Regan I can see your point. In the 90s the Scotland team could have almost be full of Rangers players, Goram, Gough, Robertson, McCall, Ferguson, Durie, McCoist, Dodds...I think Craig Broon used to add the others in just to satisfy fans as he always picked shite like Scott Booth, Darren Jackson, Billy McKinlay etc

Shocking time of year to be playing internationals as the business end of the season approaches with Champions League knock out stages. Its not a match I'll be tuning into but I do wish Wee Gogs all the best and hope to see a much improved side from what Levein did.
-
No thanks to big Eck, another terrific player in his day though to show Im not anti Eck. I cant split McLeish and McCoist for tactical unawareness, baffling decision making, playing players out of position and not having a stronger assistant. McLeish has seen some success with Birmingham and did manage Scotland to a win in France but no thanks to coming back to Rangers.

There is no question about everyones effection for Ally when looking at him as a player, Ive countless top memories. One that sticks out is his 300th goal for the club which me and 3 school mates earned a detention for skipping classes. It was against Aberdeen on a Friday night league match in November 1994, it had been moved to the Friday as the stadium needed prepared the following day so Raith could beat Celtic in the League Cup final on the Sunday. We needed the afternoon off to get to the game on time. It was the only goal in the 1-0 win.

SPL clubs give 'unanimous backing' to proposed reforms

Stopped reading after these paragraphs. This guy becomes a bigger tit by the day. This statement should be framed and put on the walls of Hampden so in a few years time he can be reminded. How on earth can he JUDGE that no other plan has a chance of success but a system that has failed in 2 countries will be a success. -

This could revive Forests season and still give them a chance at the play offs. Maybe the owners realised the error and pulled out on the signing last week, ok that would be dirty tactics but if they sacked him after 7 games they'd have had to pay him. Ive said a few times, he'll be the next Aberdeen manager. -
No probs sir, I got the pedantic bug from a few posters on here But I remember the game well, watching it with a big group of mates and even 1 or 2 of them applauded saying that was unbeliveable. Debate on BBC now about the best ever England player, Gazza mentioned a few times. He is up there with Charlton and Moore for me, for ability alone he wins, he just didnt play enough games. 57 caps should have been 87. If they had him around 92-94 and playing like he did at WC 90 and Euro 96 then it wouldnt be a debate who was the best.
-
Sorry to be pedantic but Hendry wasnt a team mate at the time, he was still at Blackburn. Hendry didnt join until Advocaat came in 98 But I agree, awesome goal, one of the best.
