  1. Ally just doesnt seem to know how to gel and mix new players in and improve them. Its an area where he has never had experience. As Scotland assistant he was used to the squad available and as assistant to Walter his job would have been to make the new guys feel at home. There is where once again he needs a stronger experienced No.2 like Ray Wilkins to help gel players in.
  2. Usually they do the draw for quarters and semi's. Obviously with no English teams they dont need the old sticky balls. Malaga v Borussia Dortmund PSG v Barcelona Real Madrid v Galatasary Bayern Munich v Juventus Bayern v Juve is the pick of the round. Ive fancied Dortmund to win it since the group stages so I'll stick by it. Got to fancy the 2 German teams and 2 of the 3 Spanish sides. Semi's of Dortmund, Barca, Real and Bayern. Could be all German and all spanish semi's or final.
  3. Away goals should def be ruled out after 90 mins of the 2nd leg. It gives the away side an extra 30 mins to score a goal. Spurs 3-0 Inter Inter 3-0 Spurs , 4-1 aet finishing 4-4.
  4. It might end up being more beneficial to us short term. But its not even close to being a good enough reason. If the SPL and SFA were coming out with "we were wrong / you shouldnt have went into Admin / your transfer embargo was wrong / we should never have went after your titles / you shouldnt be in Div 3....and on and on and on" and if was about the wrong doings they did and were trying to correct them then I can see the reason for going back to the SPL if invited. Up until as recent as 2 weeks ago they were still trying to strip titles. But all of sudden there could be an invite because there is no TV deal for next season and 2 clubs are close to shutting down (with how many next season who knows!). Its a no for me. If we were in the SPL next season something would happen and we'd get blamed for it. I say we stick to our guns and go up the leagues our own way. FWIW I think the 12-12-18 has already been decided, they just have to find a way of getting through. And I do think we will be in the 2nd league of 12 therefore playing SPL 1 sides when the ludicrious split starts.
  5. Agreed. And what player is going to join on short term deals. We'll sign more of the same and be stuck with them on 3 year contracts. Right now we are planning for 3 seasons in the SFL signing players to get us up the leagues then improving the standard of players when the time is right. If we are all of a sudden in the SPL we're left wasting wages on the players we have now who arent good enough for the SPL. However the other side of the coin is that these players MIGHT be good enough and improve under a manager who's training and coaching improves players. So are we then stuck with a manager who isnt good enough for the SPL? I cant believe people would accept going back to the SPL in a few months time to save the skin of others and not based on the wrong doings against us last year. Lets be honest the sole reason to propell Rangers back to the SPL is finance and nothing else. If it was genuine reasons then it would have been on the table months ago!!
  6. And then CG applies to the Blue Square league and the greed is pulled away from them and all these teams dont know what hit them.
  7. Absolute no for me. Why go backwards into the hate filled league. It will just be like what it was. And thats not just a view of being bored of going against the SPL and its clubs, for the good of the club having 3 seasons out the SPL gives us a platform to build for the future, get the club in a healthy position so 3 years down the line we are ready to take it by storm. We have already wasted one season not putting in a new football philosophy, but there is still time to start this summer. Anyway the clubs in Div3 play better football than the SPL also, Im sure Div 2 clubs will also. Whilst Im all for forgiveness overall, people cant be to quick to forget 12 months ago when we were taking a battering. But trying to get us back not for sporting intergrity but for saving their own skins would be a total no for me. With the current squad we'd struggle in the SPL - we've seen that with defeats from Inverness and Dundee Utd, the defence is absolute scary at times (although Id imagine Boca and Goian would return) but what happens if we went down? Would the SPL cancel relegation that season?
  8. Im astonished then! The away goal rule should be scrapped.
  9. Quite a few big games this weekend. Aston Villa v QPR should be a belter to watch. Looking forward to that one.
  10. Id be astonished if Arsenal even win over 90 mins but stranger things have happened, i.e. Chelsea won in the final last season albeit a draw in 90 mins. Wilshire, Sagna and the keeper all out so can only see a home win although Im hoping for a vintage Arsenal CL performance. With Wilshire out it makes midfield more easy for Wenger. As good as Wilshire is since he has come back the shape of the team has been altered to accomodate him with Cazorla playing wide and Podolski getting dropped. Wenger keeps persisiting with Ramsay who for me hasnt been the same since his injury and should have went out on loan. Jenkinson just isnt an Arsenal player. From midfield onwards Id like to see Wenger choose: _____Arteta_____Diaby______ Walcott____Cazorla_____Oxlade C __________Podolski_________
  11. Im lucky enough to remember seeing Maradona on TV - just. He was incredible and the best and that was even when he was getting kicked off the park, playing in a slightly different era where tackling was tougher, balls heavier and pitches not as good as today....if he played today he'd be unplayable. Messi is on the way to that. If he wins the CL this season then does it at the WC next summer he will go on par with Maradona. The term 'Great' gets banded about a lot but there is a top drawer where the best players go into. I didnt see Pele, Best or Cryuff so going on the players I have seen and can remember they are (not in any order): Maradona Zidane Ronaldo (Brazil) Rivaldo Romario Baggio Ronaldo (Cristiano) Messi Stoichkov M Laudrup B Laudrup Gascoigne Henry Vieira Matthaus Del Piero Roy Keane Paul Scholes Xavi Iniesta G Weah Bergkamp Van Basten Gullit Figo Hagi
  12. Looks good on paper and probably would be near the average 'guess' at the start of the season.
  13. Fine for me. Done.
  14. Eightball is a top bloke, bought him a few beers when he was in Singapore. Forgot all about Big C. Cammy ran the show when I joined, nice to hear he is still on the go! For a while I thought Kuznetzov was Cammy, with the Victor Meldfew thing Plenty names from the old days that arent around for 1 reason or another. Smalce Colshy Jimll Jonc Bmck Del Even the legendary Juffery hasnt been around for a while.
  15. Yeah spot on. As they play on a Saturday they're day offs can vary whether it be a full day or 2 half days. But being full time should entail full time hours, and as you say it doesnt all have to be physical. If players are being paid to rest, id have them resting at Murray park half the time. You see players in the past injuring themselves at home tripping over coffee tables. As is stands with those hours we're the real part timers in Div 3 while the rest are full time plus some as they do day jobs and training. And it has shown in quite a few performances.
  16. I dont think anyone would have them training for 8 hours a day - fitness wise anyway, I agree thats impossible. But Id certainly expect ball work, classroom tactics, team bonding (whether that means go-karting or archery it doesnt matter), watching videos of previous games to improve / learn from mistakes. But to get away and watch DVDs after possibly the worst result in the clubs history while fans have paid top dollar all season takes the michael IMO.
  17. How many of from Saturdays line up would get in that team - maybe Lee Wallace? Im a bit young to remember half of that side playing but any team with Cooper and McCoist would surely batter that current team. I remember my first ever Gersnet post, it was a thread "Worst Rangers team of all time" back in 2003 under McLeish. Cammy was the first to respond saying I didnt obviously see this team in the 80s. I would take that thread back now. Yes, this is different circumstances after being thrown into Div 3 but it is our worst side, however with a good manager and coach it could improve itself.
  18. Spot on Archie, the only thing missing from your article is "OOOOOmmmmph what a ball"
  19. This is the 2nd Tweet from Hutton that I can barely make sense of, the last being to Kyle about teeth. If he finishes training so early a trip to the library to read a few books would make more sense than feet up watching some dvd. Disgraceful that they are away by lunch time. That means they finished up around 12pm by the time they get showered etc after training, and maybe even have lunch put on for them at Murray park. Its not so much the football on display that would make my mind up about buying a season ticket or contributing to anothers next season again, its the mentality like this that would put me off.
  20. Old firm first teams make move south and will have B teams in lower leagues which will start in Div 2 and after few years will end up being allowed to be promoted.
  21. He isnt everyones cup of tea. But the enthusism of him is as high as it gets. He did a great job with Derby and got them up too early and has always had Forest as 1 of the better sides. One things for sure he would be streets ahead of Ally as a manager. And he has shown how far ahead of McLeish he is. Id take Davies, not as first choice but still think he'd be good. Considering his work rate and desire for Forest (he may be on a mission after leaving 2 seasons ago), imagine how much it would increase managing the team he supports!
  22. I'll tune in somewhere to watch it. Its scary that we go to a town like Elgin and I dont fancy us to win anything more than 1-0. If its poor showing it has to be the final straw.
  23. Messi and Ronaldo are off the planet. Im backing Argentina to win the World Cup next year, I think it will be Messi's tournament as its played in South America. He disppointed in 2010 but so did Maradona in 1982, then at 26 he owned Mexico 86. Messi will be the same - 26.
  24. I think McCoist struggles to gel players on the park with current ones.
