Bang on there squire! Pretty much my thoughts. I had to get De Boer. Same as Albertz and Robertson....yet McCall and Numan would have been straight in. Love your McCall comments, my sentiments exactly. Absolute unsung hero.

Nutshell!!! Although what is an embarrassment in the cups? personally I don't want to go Tannadice again nor near Pittodrie. Too much media blast would happen from that.

Gazza would have the be the centre core in ANY midfield...2 man / 3 man / 5 man. Players can play in a few roles but Gazza was a central midfielder full stop. Me too, he can easily play there as he was such class, but he was a right sided attacker first.

12 months ago was surreal. Rangers entered a new forced upon era of being the Country's giant playing in the bottom tier of a low standard domestic set up. Therefore being the giant we are, we were expected to cruise past all others in the league. The problem was no fewer than 16 FIRST TEAM PLAYERS had departed and only 6 players turned up for pre-season....that tells itself. The powers that be made things more than difficult for the team that has contributed so much to everything that creates their jobs....agenda against the SPL / SFA - see other threads. Rangers legend Ally McCoist put together a squad of unknowns and had the league wrapped up by March with some 'dodgy' performances on the way. Many a Bear saw last season as a glorious opportunity to lay down a new standard of football with the promising youth laying a foundation for the decades ahead. Unfortunately the product on the pitch didn't provide that but job number 1 (promotion) was complete. Onto season number 2 in this historic era! Ally has had a full pre-season and despite having his hands tied with a transfer embargo he has still managed to attract a number of SPL players to the team. We will have to juggle around a few made up rules in playing them until week 5 / 6 of the season but the squad on paper should be competitive in the SPL never mind Division 2 / Scottish League One as its been creatively called. Rangers will enter 4 competitions - League One / Ramsdens Cup / League Cup / Scottish Cup. Its an absolute no brainer, the league title is top priority and we must apply everything into gaining promotion to the 2nd tier. We want to do it in style but every Bear will agree we'll take it anyway it comes. We have no devine right to win the league yet when comparing our resources to the opposition we should have it wrapped up by March again. This season may prove slightly more tricky than last yet with a full squad having a full pre-season we are still well favourites. We'd like to win this league nicer on the eye - that is one expectation for me. McCoist has a lot of fans to win over due to style of play and tactics. He seems to be going for the importance first - promotion - but the two aren't mutually exclusive, we can still win the league playing good football. Cups - We kick off today in the Ramsdens Cup and I would expect us to win this tournament this season. League Cup / Scottish Cup - Once again these are nothing more than bonus games for us. Every SPL club is dreaming of playing a wounded Rangers but as we are on the comeback Im happy to avoid all SPL sides and going out of these cups isn't a problem so long as we are top of the league. We made some good friends last season in the lowest tier and Im sure the club is looking forward to doing the same again this season, although the trip to East End Park should prove interesting. Overall Expectations: League Title - Won by 15 points. Ramsdens Cup - Won League Cup - Depends on draw but no expectation. Scottish Cup - As per League Cup. Entertainment - Some much nicer football on show with players being played in proper positions.

Your harping on about Laudrup yet you have put Gazza on the right of midfield. Debate over! :fish:

Yes mate early 30s Im with you RE Stevens and Butcher, I was bit young to appreciate them but I still know they are class in their positions - Butcher especially. Imagine Rangers signing John Terry today. It would be like that. Right back is the position where we haven't had outstanding candidates. Hutton on his day was close to it and Porrini did well filling in, but I always recall Stevens whipping in crosses and getting down the wing. Davie Robertson was immense for me. If it wasn't that we got a class act in Numan to replace him then we'd still be talking about him. One of the most under rated Scottish players ever. Plus he went to same school as me so Id have him in. Numan was top notch all the same. As said, players that you have seen! I wasn't born when Greig and Baxter played nor Stein. Feel free to have them in your team...that's what its all about. Soon we'll have youngsters on here posting there best team as the following....nothing wrong with it but its a generation thing. ________McGregor___________ Hutton Cuellar Bougherra Wallace Naismith Ferguson Hemdani Novo _______Prso Aluko___________

That's a shocking post. You are missing the point and dismissing other peoples opinions. You don't have the fact, you only have your opinion which is respected but not agreed with. Get over it son.

Mate you need to go and watch 1 of Laudrups best ever goals and 1 of his best ever assists. Goal - v Aberdeen at Ibrox 1996-7 when he took the ball from right side and cut in skinning 4 players and the keeper. Assist - on his debut v Motherwell in 1994 he picked the ball up in own half (again right side) slid past 4 players and put Duncan Ferguson in to get the winner. He was a free role player and could be put left / right / central in any Rangers team.

Their consistency at the end of last season showed if they do that over the season they can compete. What they have to do is start taking more points of the teams around them. They have the talent in midfield and upfront but I still fear their defence. Poldolski, Walcott, Cazorla with Wilshire and Arteta is enough to destroy most teams.
-
New posters floating about of all ages, therefore who is your XI pick from players you have SEEN. (i.e I cant pick John Greig or Davie Copper as they were before my time). Attack minded: ________________Goram_______________ Stevens_____Gough____Butcher___Robertson Laudrup_____Gascoigne__De Boer____Albertz___ _____________Mols_____McCoist_________ That front 6 is just silly good.

Yesterday I was fancying Arsene Wenger to lead Arsenal to the title but after watching them last night in their friendly their defence is still absolutely shambolic and teams like Chelsea will destroy them for that even if they only have 20% of the play. I can see Man Utd not clicking. Losing Ferguson HAS to have an impact in some way and derail them. Its like Liverpool at the turn of the 90s after dominating in the 70s and 80s. It had to stop. Having Ryan Giggs is a huge boost for Moyes but Ferguson leaving has had a massive impact. They are deflated and the players are probably feeling the weight off their shoulders. Man City have to click but are another unknown. I fancy Chelsea...the Mourinho factor plus their team is strong. Hoping Wenger pulls a few signings out of the hat, as if he gets 1 or 2 world class signings then Id back Arsenal.

Glad you gave up your day job Ian!

Anyone doing a fantasy football league this year?
Gribz replied to Ser Barristan Selmy's topic in General Football Chat
Id do it if there is one. -
Welcome Hammy. If I was 81 I don't know if id know what the internet is. This is the right forum for all debates, so long as its not offensive.

Another embarrassment from Hibs. SPL clubs trying to qualify for Europe is becoming like San Marino trying to qualify for the World Cup. And its not as if its big teams that are knocking the SPL teams out. The co-efficient points is going to slip and slip. Well done St Johnstone though, Rosenborg is a good scalp. But is it a one-off or will they go 1 further.
-
They have managed to keep hold of McCall which is a coup! I was surprised, I thought Sheff Utd would have been a lure for him but fair play he wants to stay and finish what he has started.
-
Temps has been bit unlucky with injuries and may be one of those cursed injury prone players that we seemed to have had in abundance over the years. But when he is fit he is probably our key man. Fingers crossed he gets 100% fit and a long run in the team.
-
If we lost to Sheff Wed then Newcastle could thump us. But being at Ibrox will help. The competitive game against Albion this weekend has to improve players also. Roll on the start of the league season though.
-
I wanted to wake up to hear about the good spectacle and it sounds like it was. The result not so good but once again the performance a concern. It is only a friendly so will let is pass, but come Saturday in the Ramsdens Cup we all have to expect better.
-
They were only 4 wins away from Celtic last season. If they can improve against others teams rather than drawing games then they could challenge. Celtic are a poor side, before Christmas they were losing games at home regularly.

Scottish / British Transfer talk Summer 2013
Gribz replied to der Berliner's topic in General Football Chat
Suarez to talk to Arsenal. But Liverpool want 50m. He is no way worth that. Im surprised Liverpool didn't accept 40m. Higuian has joined Napoli so that's the other Arsenal target gone. So they need to get Suarez or Rooney. I still think a keeper and centre half is where their problems lie. -
If Motherwell and Inverness kick on and improve they have a chance this season.

Look forward to waking up tomorrow and reading about a) a good performance b) good turnout c) good match and spectacle. Hope all Bears who are attending enjoy the evening.
