Making rules up as they go along! How petty! September 1st will come around quick enough anyway once the season starts.
-
Im not sure Rooney would be a good long term signing, he is 1 of those players like Michael Owen who peaked early in his career and his fitness will be a concern as he gets towards 30. Would be a great signing for 1-2 seasons. Wenger does need a world class signing though. If he adds better players to the ones he has then I can see them challenging. The weak spot at Arsenal is still the keeper. It has been since Lehmann left and even he was a bomb scare at times. They need a safe pair of hands. Reina or Begovic would be good signings.

Cant say I'll lose sleep over Humphrey, never heard of the chap.
-
And they signed Wilson and being linked with others. Not sure how this works.

That Cardiff one is a bit bland. Looking at the puma website I hope the design is something like the Stuttgart strip. But other than Adidas, they dont make shirts like the used to! Probably because they cant keep up. Changing a strip every season is a disgrace. It should be minimum 2 seasons.

This is Ally's 3rd season in charge. 1st year was mixed. He raced into a 15 point lead with some good wins particularly away from home, then lost it as the off field issues started to kick in. However he still had a fine squad capable of doing better although who can tell if the players started to switch off or not. Benefit of the doubt was given. 2nd year he started without a league to play in with only 6 players. When he did get his squad the season was already starting so had no time with them. But as the year went on the team got worse. Benefit of the doubt was given. This is the key year to judge. He is going to have a large squad and a full pre-season. He has the backing of the board with Walter upstairs. I think every fan will accept the odd poor showing every 8-10 games or so and we are realistic that we wont be playing football like the Brazil side in 1970 but we will be expecting much more from last year. There is no excuses this season.

Ally has a bit of tinkering to do to that squad. But considering we're in the 2nd Div its a nice problem to have and on paper its decent. Aside from a few players going out and a few coming in, we really need to improve the players we have. Im still hoping a key summer signing is going to be on the coaching staff.

Its an interesting one to see if a) if it lasts and he can get on with Abramovic and b) they say never go back, but we only know to well it worked out in Walters case. I think he thought he was getting the Man Utd job when Fergie quit, when he didnt get it he went straight to chelsea. Its a new era next season. I can see Arsenal being stronger as they will sign a few players. Moyes will have to come out the traps running and I think he will start well, its after 6-8 games we'll see how he gets on. City's manager is a bit of the unknown but they still have the best squad. I see Chelsea being much of the same from Mourinho first time around, plenty 1-0 wins. Im going to back Arsenal though. Going by the form of the last 10 games last season, if they carry that in with some better players they will be up there. They just need to start taking more points off the teams around them, they only got 2 points against the top 4 last season.
-
I think we'll get that out of Templeton as he did miss a bit of last season. If Shiels comes good then he is another who can turn a game in the final 3rd.
-
Without taking the situation of any players leaving and assuming Boca + Goian report back, as it stands if we were to go into the season with what we have now then we'd surely have more than enough to win the league at a canter and id expect a better cup run. Numbers are much up from last season and the youngsters who proved they can fit in are 1 year older. If Shiels, Black and Hutton get their game together then its a decent basis of a squad for 2 seasons.
-
Keep em coming? You trying to get us bankrupt?
-
Probably the most exciting signing for a while, a bit of the unknown. Lets hope he doesnt turn out like Ortiz and Co.
-
If I was Man City boss Id take those 200k a week players there to show them how lucky they are.
-
If we can get Boca and Goian to agree to affordable wages then it would be good to have them back. The squad would be looking much stronger in numbers.
-
Good result for England. Some strike by Rooney. Hart supposedly had a cracking game though. Brazil certainly nowhere near as good as they have been in the past and I cant see them winning the WC on their own patch next year. Argentina or Germany will take advantage of that. It was a pretty strong Brazil team but it lacks a superstar that they have always had since Ive watched football.

And this is Proposal No.3 as the first 2 have failed. We werent part of any other proposals except being denied promotion in the first one and playing in a league of 18. Its self interest all the way from the SPL.
-
I hope its similar to the new Italy one, looks great. One thing I'll say is I expect to see it branded a lot more in Asia. We have lots of puma stores. Yesterday I was in a football shirt shop and the Celtic top was hanging in its own section while I had to look for the Rangers shirt which I eventually found. to be fair I found the last 4 homes and away tops but were well hidden.

Dear Rangers - would you like 30 pieces of silver ?
Gribz replied to D'Artagnan's topic in Rangers Chat
Dont see why, especially your 2nd answer. Whats wrong with the idea of opening up Ibrox and screening games for a fiver rather than funding the likes of Stewart Milne and Thompson. -
It took Celtic what 2-3 seasons to start giving us a challenge in the 90s? And this was while being SPL. So Id guess it could take us 3-4 years. But would we have just signed Clark, Law, Daly etc if we were a year nearer to challeging? No disrespect to those players but Im hoping for a higher quality of signing when we are an SPL club. Clark was bought to score goals in Div 2. And to answer the original post, those things should happen anyway but its still a no go for me. We are where we are.
-
If the offer was genuine then the 12-12-18 with us being invited to that would have been on the cards 4 months ago. But it wasnt. They were going to throw us in the 18. Some people have short memories.

Gribz replied to D'Artagnan's topic in Rangers Chat
I wonder what the reaction would be if we accepted but boycotted away grounds for 2 seasons (SPL 2 then SPL 1). Half their financial survival is the TV deal (which wont be much) but the other half is 4000 Rangers fans turning up twice a season. Its still an absolute no for me. Revenge to the other clubs is the last issue on my mind, they are in their own messes. Its all about where we were 12 months ago and what we've set out to do. fast tracking is almost cheating. If the SPL really wanted us then we'd have been invited at the first proposal. As 1st and 2nd proposals are hitting walls and the clubs are about to be in strife they are going for the last throw of the dice. It embarrassing. Time to make more friends at the likes of Stenhousemuir, Forfar and Arbroath next season and be welcomed again. -
He might be a half decent signing.

Charles Green: I'm vindicated by Craig Whyte inquiry
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Im glad I was one who didnt believe the accusation against Green. I feel he has been pushed out the door. He might not have been the most subtle but I liked him and its a shame he left so early when he defended the club at all costs. The guy Whyte IS deluded, what will he do next, say Walter is part of his plan?! -
Absolute no no for me. Once again we used to save the asses of others. Lets say we'd accept, the other chairman will be in the position of thinking (and probably saying to each other) this Rangers team is weak and wont be near the top end of the league. How are we supposed to prepare for such a jump? Would we have made the signings of the likes of Law, Daly and Clark if we were only 1 season away from SPL again? And where is the loyality to the SFL who gave us our chance again last season.
-
Poor signing for me, may as well get Mo Ross. Smith struggled at Aberdeen and if full of injuries. Id rather a solid full back who plays 36 games from Div 1 or Div 2 as back up. But if he gets fit then lets see.
