  1. This one is dragging on a bit, either he wants to join or he doesn't.
  2. I hope its not true. Why would you slag a minor team who are one of around 15 clubs who have made Rangers feel welcome while in the low leagues. I could expect it from a 17 year old ned but not someone supposed to be mature. Aside from this point in order to make the Scottish league better I always thought Forfar should join with Arbroath, Brechin and Montrose to become Angus Utd. The 4 teams are all within a 15 mile radius and it would make sense.
  3. It must be something in the north east in general. There is never shortage of drama and all 3 clubs have been in messes. Middleboro seemed the most sensible out of the 3 at one point and were a good established Premier League team for a while but they are really poor at the moment in the Championship. Newcastle are a soap opera. Sunderland have a terrific set up and one of the best stadiums in the country, but any manager who goes there cant make them a decent team never mind a force despite being backed financially. Only 7th placed finishes by Peter Reid where they once decent. Admin - please move this to the thread already started in football chat.
  4. They should never have sacked Steve Bruce before O Neill. Very early but obviously to do with his style and man-management. He shouldn't be criticising him players in public after signing 14 players in the summer...and then walking over to the fans and giving them the chin up, whats he thinking! Di Matteo and Big Alex McLeish are the leading favourites. No doubt Big Eck would give the players a good confidence lift as he is a good man manager like that, but he would need someone who knows tactics. Di Matteo did Ok with West Brom, nothing more but then he won the CL with Chelsea! Jury would be out with him. Sunderlands next 3 fixtures: Liverpool, Man Utd, Newcastle.
  5. Had shocking bets on Saturday. Yesterday I wrote down my coupon of a 4 fold - Arsenal, Swansea, Spurs and City then didn't bother to back it! School boy error!!! I fancied the top 4 this season to be Chelsea, City, Spurs and then Arsenal or Man Utd but since Arsenal got Ozil and Flamini I would put them in. Anyone coming into replace Alex Ferguson was going to have it tough but Moyes just cant win the big games, I think they should have went for Mourinho to continue the trophy winning. Or you even look at what Villas Boas is doing and have to give Spurs credit for giving him a chance. Nice to see an open league though. And thumbs up to Swansea and Michael Laudrup, he just oozes class. Spurs v Chelsea and Villas-Boas v Mourinho next weekend should be a belter.
  6. If Aaron Ramsay keeps this up it will be Wilshire who ends up getting dropped. I didn't rate Ramsay before but he is flying now. The Ozil signing was cracking, as was Flamini. Prior to that their starting XI was good but Rosicky and Diaby are injury prone, Ramsay and Wilshire had long term knocks and if Cazorla got injured there was nobody else. Now they have all them plus the width from Walcott, Chamberlain and Podolski.....and that is there key area. 1-1 at the moment with Stoke though. I fancy Man City to win 2-1 today.
  7. Football tops should be washed by hand these days
  8. Some coupon busters in the Premier League. Liverpool and Newcastle getting beat. This league will be the most open for years. I cant see anyone running away. Arsenal and Spurs need to win today if they are serious about challenging.
  9. I just got the new one yesterday shipped over and Im delighted with it. Its probably the best shirt I think we've had since the 90s. It fits superbly too. The only downside is we have a lot of Puma stores here and ive not seen it in one shop. That should have been part of the deal to rase global image. I will look again as the season goes on
  10. Bit bizarre how any semi-final isn't played at neutral ground or over 2 legs. The 2nd leg gives both teams that extra cash. I think the final should be played at Tynecastle or Easter Road. Tynecastle can have a good atmosphere and Easter Road has a 20000 capacity so would still get a good crowd. And if it is the likely Rangers v Raith final then Edinburgh is a fair location for both fans.
  11. McCulloch was never the quickest player but at left midfield and striker he was very decent for Wigan and in his first few Scotland games. He be my first choice striker at the moment with Little along side him.
  12. So Zaliukas hasn't decided? He either wants to sign for the biggest club in Scotland or he doesn't. I can understand if he wants to play at a higher level but he will eventually. Personally I was hoping he'd sign, he be a good solid signing and is no worse than what we have at the back now.

    Salim Kerkar

I read he was actually one of Charlton's better performers last season. But I don't think he'd improve us at the moment. Id rather have taken Novo back on a 1 year deal as an impact player coming off the bench.
  14. Came to the club at a tricky time and everyone expected a winning team. All the best to the guy.
  15. I think you get various types of player - naturally talented like Messi who is purely attack minded but could play any where in midfield or upfront. Then you get vertilise players like say McCulloch who can and will play anywhere for the team. He isn't the most naturally gifted but will still fit in in different areas. Could Messi play centre half or as a holding midfielder? Probably yes but he wouldn't be as nearly as effective at professional La Liga level. Players obviously get a natural and favoured position and it that high level a team should be playing to all players strengths for the benefit of the team....so therefore I always prefer to see players in 'preferred' positions. Opposition will expose the team if they see a slight weakness and in turn it can reflect on the players. Also you can maybe get away with 1 or 2 players out of your XI at max playing slightly out of position. But when you have 4 or 5 then the proof will be in the pudding on the park.
  16. Ive got a few quid on them to win it.
  17. Id have started the season with Little and McCulloch. They finished last season scoring goals and it should be up to Clark and Daly to shift them....
  18. Glad Everton won but pity that wee rat scored the winner. Arsenal marching on towards the title....
  19. Injuries aside I'm with Amms, Thomson wasn't a player for me, he couldn't lace Stuart McCalls boots as a holding midfielder. Thomson's style says all that's wrong with Scottish type player....he'd get passed off the park on the European stage. At the start of decade when Thomson moved Scotland could field Lambert, B Ferguson, McAllister, and Collins, now they are proper quality Scottish players.
  20. I wouldn't use this as an example. Professional footballers are supposed to be full time, but training 9-12 then given free lunch then playing a playstation or shopping in the afternoon doesn't constitute FT. If they were already training (and by training I don't mean full on exercise / tactics etc, I just mean 'at work') then doubling their duration at Murray park from 8am to 8pm would be harsh.
  21. The problem was people wanted over night results. Ok PLG's season wasn't great and we fell behind in the title race but there was games were we was playing great stuff. And you only have to look how long it took Alex Ferguson to build Man Utd up between 1986 and 1990 until he won his first trophy. Since then they have had 2 decades of constant success and in the first 5 years the money wasn't always the key factor like it is today with Sky and sponsors.
  22. I thought the opposite. Brown was always the better player out of those 2 for me. He does act the dick but on his day is a good player.
  23. I know the PLG v Barry Ferguson subject has been debated a lot over the years but now these words comes straight from the best manager of all time. And he highlights a few things that were the route of the PLG v BF debate.
  24. Whittaker was one of the most frustrating players ive ever seen wear a Rangers shirt. I actually thought he played his best games for us at LB when he filled in for a while. I didn't mind him at RB but never liked him in midfield. Same went for Ricksen.
