Have to say I love the nostalgia stuff about late 80s and 90s Scottish (and some english) football. And I cant believe with the list of proper players how no manager has ever got us beyond knock out stages. Sportscene, Scotsports, The Green Final was my weekend. Always thought Henry Smith was decent - yet Hearts should have wont a title (86) but Rough was exactly that - Rough! But I didnt see him before 85. Yet I remember watching Dundee Utd and McAlpine pulling of top corner saves etc.

So by that method of thought I should rule out Maradona as the best ever player and Laudrup as my best ever Ranger. Comparing sport stars past and present is a daily debate worldwide. Stats are never accurate when it comes to players and managers - they only reflect certain aspects and when in percentages its even worse until a player or manager completes the same amount of matches. Differing circumstances can also affect stats. I wonder what Man City's XG stat will be for their upcoming match and what the odds are of them achieving it.

And you are perfectly entitled to your opinion - hence why forums exist. But to simply say "Thats utter bollocks" or "Time Machines Dont exist" is flawed arguments with no substance. Thats a bit like saying you cant put Maradona down as the greatest ever because there is no time machine to bring him here now therefore we must go with Messi or Ronaldo. I thought Kent on his game under Gerrard could rip teams apart. If he had a bit more of a final ball or scoring then he wouldnt have ever been at Rangers in the first place.

I wondered if Kilmarnock had laid grass down yet - plenty of replies show that they still have that surface which should not be allowed in top flight matches.

Woohoo - International football away for another few weeks. The early kick off could be like a basketball match. Tottenham 3-3 West Ham Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa Ipswich 1-1 Everton Man Utd 2-1 Brentford Newcastle 2-1 Brighton Southampton 0-0 Leicester Bournemouth 0-2 Arsenal Wolves 0-4 Man City Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea Nottingham Forest 1-1 Crystal Palace

John Brown should have been capped. I seem to recall Ralph Milne being a pretty good winger in a top Dundee Utd team. Unfortunately for Billy Stark and Jim Duffy - they had some serious competition. I remember Hamish McAlpine just at the end of his career and you guys can confirm if he was better than Alan Rough and Henry Smith?? Craig Brewster should not be on the list. The most under capped player was Davie Robertson - he was streets ahead of Tosh McKinlay. On ESPN the other day Steve Nicol and Craig Burley were asked their top 5 Scottish players of all time - they found it impossible. Denis Law and Dalglish was Nicols top 2 but after that he was in double figures in seconds.

A bit pedantic - Especially when Ive said I wouldnt have him back due to him not being the same player.
-
I was going to post similar. Cortes - seems made of glass, been injured non-stop. Cerny - Does one or two good things but then over does things massively - Im not convinced but its still early. McCausland - Would start on the right for me at the moment. Matondo - I actually like but lacks a bit of end product. He has quality but is also inconsistent. Peak Kent was better than all of them.
-
Exact this. Kent lost interest and wasnt near the same player. I was a huge Kent fan and if it was the Kent we seen under Gerrard it would be a no brainer to try re-sign him but he isnt / wouldnt be the same player. For going back to former players it should always be case by case. Actually - a good thread would be to see a list of players who came back to the club and was a success. Kenny Miller and Craig Moore are the first 2 that jump off the top of my head that worked out.

Its an interesting one, I like Tuchel. I thought this started as a media spin to trigger Man Utd to making a move for him so its surprising. Tuchel is probably putting the middle finger to Germany as well as he wasnt ever getting that job as they are waiting for Klopp after Nagelsman. Obviously Pep used his people behind the scenes to say he wasnt interested and the FA were never convinced with Howe or Potter.

New pics of the inside of Copland Rd (front and rear)

Yup my old seat was located very west of the Club Deck - you couldnt see the corner flag at the East enclosure end unless you were in early before K/O. Fully agree about Celtic allocation at Ibrox in the corner - prime view seats compared to restricted area at their ground - this is something that baffled me for a long time as to why we accepted that section. Im a more traditionist and prefer a heavy away support in these matches but fair is fair and then there is taking the mick. -

This was an issue in the some sections of the Club Deck years ago when I sat up there. -
Well erm...I didnt want to say 😃

You mean "when" Scotland get beaten by Portugal...... I think he has loads of credit with the SFA but he may decide himself he's had enough after this game.
-
Wasnt exactly scoring for Southampton in the Championship last season but Shankland bagged about 25 for Hearts and should well have been ahead of him in the pecking order. Plus id even have had Armstrong and Christie as a 2 up top in the Euros - at least the are direct and pacey as opposed to the undroppable McGinn who has no pace to play off a striker especially Adams. Mind you I dont really care much for international football but it can still be frustrating.
-
He has stumbled on 4 at the back because of injuries but if Tierney was available that would have been a back 5 last night 100%. Why on earth did he persist with Adams upfront who is terrible. As for next manager - even though I wanted Moyes away from West Ham I think he is tailor made for international football.
-
Yeah, but the media not even raising it. 13 games or something without a win and the last win was a lacklustre against Gibraltar. He should have left after the Hungary game.
-
Good shout. Almost forgotten considering the talent that was in the team.
-
Yeah it was a case of trying to hard to impress. Plus he is too honest and a bit scared of the media. There is a huge difference with other countries and what England are doing. France in the 90s ripped everything up as they hadnt won anything bar the Euro 84 (i think). I remember being at school and discussing with my mates saying they must have some team if Ginola and Cantona couldnt get a game - then in Euro 96 they were poor but after that they were awesome - and since the WC 98 and Euro 2000 wins they have still been a powerhouse reaching WC finals in 2006, 2018 (won), 2022 plus Euro 2016. Spain thought they were the biggest under achievers in world football in the 2000s and then grew into themselves scooping everything from 2008-2012. They had a dry patch but are on it again and were miles ahead of everyone else this year. There system is already in place with their manager coming through from U21s to the first team. Where as England stumbled across Southgate who is a Director of Football at best and wasnt even a contender for the job before the Allardyce scenario. He took them to Semi's and Finals with draws he couldnt have handpicked kinder and was always falling short with his tactics - now they think Carsley is in the line for promotion just because its what Spain did (well planned) despite never managed at top flight club level and only dealing with U21 players rather than full time players from top clubs - the step up is massive.
-
If you are going down the Daniel route then Daniel Cousin - perhaps more of an enigma - could be unplayable on his day but didnt do it enough. Tam Buffel was another of mine - always thought he was a classy player.
-
Yes if he didnt put an end to Marco Negri being a goal machine. But yes a quality player.
-
Engerland beaten by Greece at home. The manager doing a Levein 4-6-0 formation and its backfired massively.
-
Absolutely. And a number of players who signed to get us through the Divisions. A couple of others I thought were Reyna, Hemdani and McCann. I also think Ian Ferguson is a bit of an unsung hero despite being highly respected and rated. Can anyone think of any keepers? Goram, Klos and McGregor were all legends and huge.
-
Huistra is one on my list. (except he did have a song Ooo ahhh Huis-Tera) Davie Robertson was highly rated though. Not sure about Stephen Wright - we paid 1 million and he was injury prone and hardly played.
-
Big Slim - would you say his first spell, second spell or both? I ask because I only recall his second period at the club. He was partial to aiming the odd shot at the upper tiers.
