  1. Never heard of them. Agree with that. No way we could afford his wages unless he wants to come on a cheap but a Premier League / Championship could offer him quadriple for sitting on the bench. Cuellar, Boyd and Miller would win us the league though.
  2. I had a sneaky he would move upstairs in the summer with De Boer and Bergkamp coming in to replace him. Maybe not then! It will be interesting to see what he does in the transfer window, Arsenal fans wont accept unknown or no signings. Arsenal do have a quality squad but they get far too many injuries. Had Walcott and Ramsay not got injured Id say they would have wont the league but Wenger didn't address it in January. If he signs top quality then they will go all the way next season. if he doesn't then he can expect a fight for top 4. He needs a few from: Benzema, Remy, Draxler, Di Maria plus a new right back and a centre half plus a back up keeper. Also needs Walcott, Diaby, Ramsay, Ozil and Wilshire to be fit for a full season...throw in Cazorla, Ox-Cham and Podolski then they can win the league. But Arsenal have to improve next season against Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea home and away plus go to Liverpool and Everton and win games.
  3. Yes 3rd in a 2 team league said it all. Ok Hearts did well that season but after Burley went they lost it. McLeish was lucky he had so many impact players. Lovenkrands could do something out of nothing, De Boer was world Class, Prso is in the Ledley King mould where he had a dodgy knee but was still head and shoulders above the rest. Hartson couldn't take pens
  4. 2 points I fully agree on. The other key points for England to do well. • Balance in the team. • Playing Form players ahead of reputations. • Players in correct positions. Not having Lallana right and Welbeck left. • Release the youth, don’t worry about the discipline side, that’s what 2 weeks get together in the build-up is for. Likes of Gerrard sitting behind youthful players will instruct them. • England finally get a left sided player in form (Lallana) and they play him on the right to accommodate Welbeck on the left who is a striker. (v Peru) • Hodgson has kept the public happy with naming young talent but he wont play them right. And that’s why they wont do well. I expect Milner and Lampard to feature more than Barkley. • England always set up about opposition. Have a go for once. • Always accommodate players – Lampard and Scholes in the past playing left side. • Sturridge is the form striker so don't be scared to drop Rooney.
  5. But I tend to agree with SBS on McLeish, I think he is a fantastic motivator who sparks life into dressing rooms that are down which gets a reaction for a while but his football tactics are not there. He played Arveladze wide too often. He has a mixed bag when signing players, he signed some stinkers but he also signed Boumsong who was awesome for 1 year then we got a good payment, and of course his best signing - Dado Prso!
  6. Souness is a football legend for me, Club and country. Obviously we got him at the end of his career so his club was Liverpool but he still took the top English team to Ibrox and got the ball rolling in 9IAR. Hasn't done it when flirting when management, I think he even admitted he got frustrated with players not being as good as him so his man management would have been selective.
  7. Certainly wouldn't have been Nisbet Pete, he finished playing years before McLeish came to Rangers. Maybe Scott Wilson. Defenders from McLeish era off the top of my head (I was going to loads of games in his earlier days) many of which was signed by Eck: Ricksen Moore Amoruso Konterman M Ball Zurab Khizananishvili, S Wilson Mo Ross T Vidmar D Adamczuk B Malcolm K Muscat J Bonnessil D Eggen P Vanoli H Berg F De Boer M Andrews J Boumsong Gregory Vignal Soti Kyrgiakos Oliver Bernard JP Fan-Fan Ian Murray Jay Rodriguez.
  8. No because I doubt they will get out the group due to Hodgson's tactics and the English mentality. If Redknapp or Venebles was in charge Id have a bet with you hands down. England have players but they never produce, that was what I said in the opening post, they have always had potential. Where I think they will get to is different to where I think they can potentially get to. But for the first game against Italy Id say that's a banker draw.
  9. Anything could happen between the match between Uruguay and Italy though and I don't think Uruguay are THAT good, they only just beat Northern Ireland 1-0 tonight. England have failed to show up in the last 3 or 4 tournaments always fitting the big named players in and playing them out of position, having Scholes left midfield was shocking. They have had yes men to the FA in charge who play negative football since 2001 when Eriksson took over. Not since Venebles, Keegan and Hoddle had they someone in charge of going for it. But in 2006 Germany went with a young attacking squad and have progressed every since and only not won anything because arguably the best side the world has produced has scooped- Spain. That's why England should just let the hand brake off and go for it, they may surprise people. Yet Hodgson will play Rooney and Welbeck rotating in wide positions.
  10. I think England have the potential to get to the semi finals but can just see Hodgson being so negative and continuing playing out of form Rooney and players out of position therefore will go out in the group stages. England should let teams worry about them and play to their potential and strongest team with players who are in form. Giving Rooney an automatic start means he switches off, and I agree with Scholes that he has peaked already. He would be better coming off the bench at a high impact level. Welbeck is a bizarre one, I don't know what anyone see's in him. Sturridge is a must, and then let the other creative players go and play. For me Id go with 1 of these teams: _____________________Hart______________________ Johnson______Cahill______Jagielka______Baines ___________________Gerrard___________________ Sterling____Barkley______Ox-Cham____Lallana ___________________Sturridge__________________ Or start this against Italy: _____________________Hart______________________ Johnson______Cahill______Jagielka______Baines ______________Gerrard____Wilshire______________ Sterling_____________Barkley__________Lallana ___________________Sturridge__________________
  11. Wasn't ever going to last with the new owner. Leeds are a club with such huge potential but in a massive hole.
  12. Ive been listening to a bit of built up on Talksport this week, certainly seems the biggest in 20 years since Benn v Eubank. Not a massive boxing fan but I like the big fights and used to watch the heavyweight division, but this fight has created interest so I'll probably watch. Absolutely too close to call though so wont be having a bet on it.
  13. Glamorous trip but as mentioned earlier a more high profile opposition would have been good even if it was an English side. Didn't Ally take the team to Germany the other summer and played against part time opposition there also? I know Pre-season is about fitness and preparation but it should also be an internal test to see how is ready for the league to start, Im not sure how it can give him a good view on how his squad will perform. Id have also thought an Ibrox tournament would have been arranged for a bit of a money maker. With teams like AC Milan, Hamburg, Newcastle and Linfield being potential opposition.
  14. Hearts shorter than Hibs? I would take Hibs each way at the moment.
  15. We should only be signing players who will improve the squad. Signing for the sake of it is a waste of money we don't have and leaves us in a mess if we do win promotion next summer.
  16. That's me in. I do have the disadvantage of a time difference so wont see many line ups prior to games.
  17. Lennon might get the West Brom job, if not it will be a Championship team next season like Norwich or Blackpool.
  18. TBH this should have been part of the plan in 2012. But whether Ally and his team would have got it right I am not so sure.
  19. At least! Considering it took them 10 years to stop us while they was in the top flight we already have a 3 year set back by climbing the leagues. Everything on and off the park will create a bigger gap.
  20. I think Michael Laudrup is the perfect fit to continue the good set up there, he plays the same style and with Southampton having arguably a better team than Swansea Laudrup would go well there. He is also the big name that could a) keep hold of their top players or b) replace them.
  21. I think they should have went for Benitez. Not sure Pochettino will last at Spurs TBH. The manager merry go round begins.
  22. I tend to agree with this for the reason that it often does teams good to take 2 steps back and get relegated, we've seen that down south with Newcastle to name a few, even teams like Leicester went 2 divisions back and have come back stronger. So for Hibs I can see them being slightly better than he have been this season. For Hearts it will depend on what activity they do in the transfer market but they are not going to be in as bad a situation as we was and will start a rebuilding job. I would have said we would be favourites on paper but with Ally's style I could even see Falkirk giving us a go.
  23. Oomph....fair one. So you don't think we will win the league next season?
  24. Would like to hear what fellow Bears expect next season. Obviously the journey back up the leagues was supposed to be a gimmie and we didn't foresee hearts and Hibs standing in the way. Hearts are on the rebuilding and Hibs are about to make changes.....An article on here a few weeks ago had Ally saying he fears Hibs, sorry but we should never be fearing them. We had a good Scottish cup run this year but id not worry about that this year and put all efforts into the league. Still cant believe we didt pick up the Ramsden's and I cant see there being big interest in that this year. I don't think Ally is the right manager, he should be at the club in some capacity but not on the training field and If im honest I don't think it will be easy next season.
  25. I did think Butcher was a real fit for Hibs when he went there and expected them to be a top 3 side but something is obviously far wrong there, to only win 1 game in 19 sounds like there was a player / manager split. Not sure what to expect from them next season though....
