Agreed, one off's certainly happen in football and a first friendly of the season for the Premier League champions without a number of first team squad isn't something to get worked up about. However the following is more than a one off: 2012-13 League Peterhead 2-2 Rangers Berwick Rangers 1-1 Rangers Annan 0-0 Rangers Stirling 1-0 Rangers Rangers 1-1 Elgin Rangers 1-1 Montrose Stirling 1-1 Rangers Rangers 1-2 Annan Rangers 0-0 Stirling Montrose 0-0 Rangers Rangers 1-2 Peterhead 2012-13 Challenge Cup Rangers 2-2 QotS (QotS win 4-3 on pens) 2013-14 Challenge Cup Raith 1-0 Rangers 2013-14 League Cup Forfar 2-1 Rangers

Interesting times for a number of nations. Italy and Brazil need to bring through some world class players again to compete. Spains reaction and response will be interesting. From dominating everything for 6 years to a 'no-show', we'll see in the Euro's whether it was a blip or the team has run its course. Belgium and Switzerland are coming on but the Euro's are going to come with expectations especially playing in nearby France which should suit them. Portugal are falling away and once Ronaldo gets to the other side of 30 and slows down Portugal will be very average. England need to get a manager in who isn't afraid to drop players. Bringing youngsters to a tournament is the easy part, playing them and playing them to their strengths is another thing.

Player of the tournament is close between a few. Rodriguez is certainly in with a shout and Robben for most of it was up there. Muller would be the other contender for me. Teams like Costa Rica, Chile, Algeria, Colombia and the USA deserve a mention for all punching above their weight. The USA could become a top footballing nation with the resources they have. Belgium were probably the disappointing team. Arrived with much promise and a top squad on paper but didn't impress. Italy were also poor but like Brazil its a poor period for the Italians with no real world class players.

Just listening to a radio debate about it now. To be considered as the best ever then he does need to do it at the World Cup IMO, that is still the highest level. When he plays at Barca he is part of a top quality team with great players all around him. Maradona went to Napoli and won them 2 titles - and Napoli weren't the best in the country. Its similar to Messi going to a team like Spurs or Everton and winning the title.
-
Germany deserved it, strongest team at the tournament. A good thing is Messi wont be compared to Maradona now. Diego won it in Mexico at 26, Messi at 26 bar a few glimpses didn't do much. There was a time in the 2nd half where Messi got the ball near the centre circle and turned away from 1 man then didn't keep going, the difference is Maradona would have got into the box.
-
He should at least hit the target from that effort. Good game so far even if no goals. Messi looks good when he gets it, needs to get it more though. Germany stronger in possession and look like they can create more.

I watched the Quarters and Semi's in UK last week and agree Adrian Chiles should be shafted back to a politics program on a channel nobody subscribes to but I do prefer ITV's commentary with Andy Townsend. Also the UK public are paying for Shearer and Co's BBC trip. Anyway onto the football. If Messi performs to a 9/10 or 10/10 he could win it but if he is below a 8/10 then Germany could cruise this 3-1.

If quite a lot backed 7-1 then they had insight info.
-
Bit of a blow, Ive no doubt Nerlinger would have been able to identify a good standard of player. That was only step one, we then needed a proper coach to develop players.
-
Have to agree to disagree there, I watch Championship games and 'superb' would be really extreme.
-
It was / is the worst Brazil team ever. They weren't even good in the group stages and Chile were by far better in the last 16. The only time they played half well was against Colombia. Didn't see Holland pumping them 3-0 though.
-
The pressure will be on very early if we don't beat Hearts in the opener and Hibs in the league cup. Those games will give us a good measurement of where we are for the season.

I think they should scrap the 3rd place game, its meaningless and after you are knocked out you just want to get on your holidays. With the hosts being in it they will want to put on a show but the Dutch wont be bothering to much. The focus should be all about the final now. Don't think we will see a classic on Sunday, 2 team who will cancel each other out. Messi has only shown flashes of quality but certainly hasn't carried Argentina like Maradona did in 86, its been more like Argentina crawling to the final in 1990 when Maradona was playing with injuries throughout the tournament. Germany are stronger all over the pitch and I fancy them to win but Im hoping Argentina lift the trophy.

To be fair he didn't offer massive promise for us and has only come good for Leeds in the last 12 months. Id say the price tag is on the high side.

Summer transfer window: Official ins/outs and transfer rumours
Gribz replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
1 or 2 will likely go out on loan. I think Ally needed to get a right back in as Foster is the only natural RB and isn't rated by a lot of fans. It will probably be trimmed to 23 with Gallacher (GK), McAusland, Gasparatto going out on loan and maybe the sale of a couple. I used to like Kyle Hutton as a player but of all the signings and re-signings this summer he is probably top of the list that wasn't needed. -

I don't think its a bad signing and its certainly not Simonsen's fault. Having goalkeeper experience around is quite important. If it was John Burridge then I could see the argument against. And its nice to have a few footballing threads on the go.... -
I hope our manager see's it as simple as you do. There is potential in our squad as you have listed and I still think Peralta will be a good player if played properly and then you have players like Shiels who if is fit can still bring something different to our team but I expect to see McCulloch at the back and Miller put on the right in a 4-5-1. I think we are due something from Templeton, he has got a lot in his locker but seems his mind is elsewhere. Hoping he knuckles down and he could easily be POTY if he wants. Boyd could have a field day (season) if Templeton does well.
-
I think this is a good signing, we are finally getting real defenders in the squad and surely McCulloch cant be first pick. As Gunslinger said Cuellar would have been the ideal signing as he is free but wages would be a problem but Zaliukas is still a good purchase.

Where is Der Berliner, he usually puts up a good update of the squad with everyone in their positions.....that will give us a good view as to where we need to strengthen. But Id guess we have enough for the season. Its still not a good long term squad but its strong enough to win this league. And Under a good tactician this squad should comfortably be in the top 2 in the country. Bell, Simonsen, Gallacher Foster, Faure, McAusland, Mohsni, McGregor, Zaliukas, Gasparatto, McCulloch Wallace, Smith Aird, McKay Macleod, Law, Peralta, Black, Hutton, Shiels Templeton, Crawford Miller, Boyd, Daly, Clark, Gallacher -
Sorry, didn't see a thread was already started, was travelling over night. Pity it isn't at Hampden.

Not sure Cal. Perhaps they are but in that case it wouldn't need rescheduled?

Another good pay day for Queens Park as that will mean a big away support at Hampden although it has to be rescheduled. Glamorous ties in the cup - Hibs at home in the Petrofac Cup and a trip to Hampden in the League Cup. But lets see if Ally can improve his cup record first.
