Amazing the way they swing things. Before the appointment it was McLeish, McInnes, McCall and Davies the papers listed. And I don't think he had to fight off McCall and Cathro at all. McCall was never in the running and Cathro probably hasn't been spoken to.

McCall only has himself to blame. he got a chance to stamp his authority and it didn't work. With Hindsight not getting promoted could be a good thing long term as going up with McCall could have set us back 3 years as he would have probably got the job and I wouldn't expect us to be anything more than a mid table team under him.

Wilson was one of the 3 or 4 players who elevated their game next to Mentor Weir and as such got a move to Liverpool. I guess being coached by him would be the next best thing. If he was along side McGregor next season with Weir coaching then it sits better than the pairing of McCulloch and Mohsni does it!

Delighted by the choice of appointment. He was defo my first preference since it was known was leaving Brentford. It feels like a total breath of fresh air and a new start. I get the feeling this upcoming season will give us winning mentality and momentum going into the top flight. I expect us to be a different animal this year, no more shocking efforts and 0-0's v the likes of Alloa. I cant wait to see the type of football and tactics deployed and the players coming in will be very interesting.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread there wont be any PLG revolt players in the squad, McCulloch and Boyd were the last of that type and both are off the books. PLG had no chance against Ferguson and Co at the time, they believed in part time hours. Warburton would be coming into a trimmed squad and adding his own players which would be of much relief to me. It senses a team that want to play for him.

But that's where we are so we cant feel sorry for ourselves. Pulling a manager who has just done amazing achievement down south at a level higher than we are at just now is more than good enough. Appointing one of the other options would never bring us back to where we belong. Warburton has all the ideas and attributes to put us back on top of the SPFL. His CV and talking says that. Finally we may see 11 players who are actually fit. They might be able to string some good passing together. We might see a few youngsters get a run in the team. - Warburton does all this in his teams. In management terms he is still very young. he has learned by doing the hard work all self funded by going around some of Europes biggest clubs at seminars and coaching, he then got the Brentford gig and took a tiny club like that up through the 3rd tier and nearly into the Premier league in a short time. That Championship division is a mammoth league with some huge clubs in it. Only Bournemouth have done a bigger task than Brentford last season IMO.

Totally agree. Coaching role is the best for Cathro, Id have my doubts about him being a No.1 if he has only been a young coach so far. Im all for the idea of someone outside Scottish football (Warburton) coming in but having Weir along side him gives him enough knowledge about the club and expectations he needs. In reverse I always said McCoist's downfall could have been not bringing in a outside experienced No.2 Cathro seems like a proper coach, you don't get to Valencia at 28 being poor however his previous to that is Dundee Utd so that doesn't exactly shoot him up to a No.1 level. It seems he would be ideal on the training ground compared to a few months ago when it was Ally, Durrant and Kenny. Bit of a dream line up this on all levels considering where we are, and the fact we not going to attract world class managers and coaches: Warburton - Manager Weir - assistant Manager Cathro - Head / youth Coach And 2 out of 3 would also be great news.

Poland play Germany next so something has to give there meaning 3 points in Tbilisi would put the top 2 finish in our own hands as we have Germany and Poland at home after that. To get a top 2 finish we need: Georgia away 3 pts Germany home 1 pts / possibly can afford a defeat depending on other results. Poland home 3 pts Gibraltar away 3 pts.

Norn Ire still have Hungary at home so its well in their hands to finish top 2. Scotland may even need a bit of a help from NI as I think Im right in saying Scotland and Hungary are currently the best placed 3rd teams (the best gets auto qualification), but if results are removed from the bottom team then Hungary currently would be the best as they would only have 1 point deducted from a draw with Greece where as Scotland have 3 deducted from a win against Gibraltar.

Hungary won in Finland to keep up with these two. NI. need to do a Wales here.

On the international topic I don't think it will be long before top 8 seeds like Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Holland, England, Belgium and Portugal don't even have to qualify for the Euros. They will automatically get there then it will be up to the rest to qualify. For me money and seedings has ruined the game, they should just pick out from all names in a hat and if Germany draw Spain in qualifying then so be it, it will make the international games more interesting during qualifying rather than watching a snooze fest of England v Slovenia or Italy v Malta.
