  1. Hungary won in Finland to keep up with these two. NI. need to do a Wales here.
  2. Their goal should have been easily spotted as offside. A good result but we need to get something probably a win in Georgia. I'll take that though as I had a decent bet on a draw.
  3. It amazing what a good bright manager does for the country anyway. I feel like Im much more behind the team compared to when Levein was in charge. It is a toss of a coin in this game, as you say Ireland could turn us over with O Neill and Keane getting them right up for it, but I'll have a few squid on a 0-0. I think Wales are practically there with that win last night. To lose a 5 point lead of Israel and Cyprus with 4 games to play would be incredible. If Norn Ireland get something from the Romania game today and Finland get something off Hungary then they have a foot in France. England are already there so its is looking like Scotland have the trickiest task of making it 4 home nations in France. On the international topic I don't think it will be long before top 8 seeds like Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Holland, England, Belgium and Portugal don't even have to qualify for the Euros. They will automatically get there then it will be up to the rest to qualify. For me money and seedings has ruined the game, they should just pick out from all names in a hat and if Germany draw Spain in qualifying then so be it, it will make the international games more interesting during qualifying rather than watching a snooze fest of England v Slovenia or Italy v Malta. If Man Utd draw Liverpool in the FA cup 3rd round its the tie of the round and all eyes are on it so international should be the same.
  4. Two average teams going bang at it but I will probably watch it. international week isn't so bad when the domestic season is over. I think qualifying campaigns should actually be lumped together more rather than spaced out over 2 years. You could play 3-4 games in a 2-3 week period, it might bring more interest and make the domestic season less start / stop. Can see it being a draw in this game which Id probably take. Beating Poland and Georgia is what Scotland need to do and then top 3 would be pretty much on the cards. Wales got a hoofing result against Belgium last night and Norn Ireland are in pole position to go through also. Would be good to see the 4 home nations all at France next summer. Not sure why the media keep making out all 5 could progress, Ireland is nearby but so is France close to Britain.
  5. The picture in the OP is from the pre-season friendly after he scored at the Broomloan End. Against Celtic IIRC he did it at Parkhead while warming up as a sub in a midweek game for a brief second that was barely caught. Obviously someone at the club put that idea into Gazza's head to do it as he had no clue what it was even all about when he first signed. That's the person who should be ashamed, egging on someone like that.
  6. Before the McCall appointment I mentioned it would have been a masterstroke to get Harry in to rally the troops. Harry needs an open chequebook to make successes sometimes but he also is good at the motivation and good football approach.
  7. If and a big if, we missed out on Warburton and was going down the route of a 'Mac' then McInnes would have been the one id have gone with ahead of McCall and Mcleish. But he has signed on with Aberdeen so that is good news as I don't think he has what it takes to bring us back to the top. Its still scary that McCall and McLeish are being linked along with Davies....any of that 3 would be a disastrous appointment. And until Warburton or Cathro or someone else is appointed Im worrying. TBH I don't know anything of Cathro other than he is at Valencia. Warburton is still my top candidate by a country mile. Everything about the guy is a fresh approach which is what we need as the No.1. Weir next to him is a master stroke. Having an ex player is one thing but having a proper professional ex player ticks the boxes rather than someone from the old school jobs for boys club which installs the 'fun culture' at the club. With McCulloch and Boyd off the books now also that era should be out the window.
  8. I get the off the field stuff but on the park we should have also been better, I guess that's down to Allys mismanagement.
  9. Who sets the price of shirts in our club shops? If its the club then couldn't we put them on sale for a quid each and then buy them so the club don't have to fork out for unsold and the sales price is the cost of a cup of tea. Its not all stock of shirts but still a saving to the club in a way.
  10. Its a good statement but its only as good as the manager he appoints. This I agree with. The a chance to build this season in the Championship could be better for a full pelt assault in the top flight in 12 months time. However You just have to wonder why Hearts managed to get their house in order so soon after their problems.
  11. McInnes wouldn't be a step forward. We really need to try a different approach and Warburton fits the bill for me. McInnes, McCall, McLeish..we need to stay away from this level, none of them have long term vision that we require.
  12. Anyone know if these 3 are any good to join Warburton and Weir?
  13. The interesting thing will be to see how much he gets to spend and what players actually want to go to Newcastle. They will have to pay good wages to go there. I felt Michael Laudrup was tailored made for that job to play the football Newcastle want.
  14. He seemed sure he would have Weir working along side him regardless of where he goes.
  15. Very impressive guy. Spoke very well. I hope he signs on the dotted line tomorrow. Although didn't mention joining us at all as he doesn't comment on positions where there is already a man in charge. Believes in hungry youth with a mixture of experience mentors and players who are comfortable in possession.
  16. Not sure what the hold up is, if they can agree a deal with Warburton just crack on. I don't want to miss out on him. I think he would be a steal in the position we are in. being realistic if we don't get Warburton then we will have to resort to McCall, Mcleish or McInnes. If we get Warburton it may also give us the chance to bring Macleod back. What a double scoop that would be.
  17. It will make for better atmospheres and the fact there is a seat at each standing point makes ticketing far easier rather than 100s piling in and standing anywhere. It works well in Germany. Long term it will be good at Ibrox in certain parts of the ground.
  18. As West Ham being my English club Morrison is a nightmare. Has lots of talent but off the park isn't worth it. Collison is very decent, especially prior to his injury but he has signed for Peterborough. However George McCartney is available, he would do a great job for a year at left back.
  19. Cant see that one. Have they spoken to him?
  20. Neither Numan or De Boer have managed themselves. Numan only The Dutch B side who Im sure are impressive. Id love both as coaches but it probably isn't the right time. Im in total agreement with rbr. The Warburton appointment is one out the box and I think he will keep his feet firmly on the ground, he wont be overwhelmed nor under whelmed. He will be a proper step up to the last few years. If appointed its a breath of fresh air rather than a McCall, Butcher, Davies type. We were never going to attract high profile high paid managers, going down south and cherry picking the promising managers was our best route IMO. Im sure we will be able to attract a better standard of player from down there also. And I said last week, Rangers can also be the making of Warburton, the infrastructure of the club is a different level to Brentford, if he can take us back to Europe then he may get attract interest down the road.
  21. Getting a good experienced manager wont be easy at the moment though. I don't see Warburton as a newbie, he has had 3 great years in England. That Championship division is as tough as it gets, you play Saturday / Tuesday almost every week and there is some good teams with good players there, a lot of Premier League teams put their promising youngsters there and for Warburton to take Brentford who are a small club to the top 5 is a job extremely well done.
  22. He wouldn't be top job though. Anyone can clearly see the professionalism in him though. It doesn't always work bringing a good ex player, look at mcleish, he was a top centre half but didn't do wonders with our defence and Ally was a top striker who didn't improve our forwards but in Weirs last season he was almost a mentor anyway so I think that will work.
  23. Sometimes that is a good thing. It doesn't mean they aren't operating in the background. If David Murray was good at anything it was getting a deal done in advance of any announcement and it used to come out as a done deal, that's a way of doing business that I like.
  24. Agree but the task should be more of a 5 stage appointment looking longer than the 2 points you mentioned. Im certainly in the Warburton and Weir camp. The preparation and note to detail they seemed to have put in is exactly what the footballing side of our club needs and has needed. There is no 'rebel camp' like Ferguson and Boyd to refuse longer training and new methods and its a superb chance to build for the future. I like the Weir appointment because he will be on the training pitch, I don't think Weir is a No.1 but will make a excellent coach and assistant. He is the type of ex Ger that is needed, someone around the place who knows what is needed on the pitch from players rather than the jobs for boys type ex player. That's why others such as Numan and Laudrup often get mentioned that they would do a great job on the coaching side because they came from the outside but know what is required professionally, Weir is in that bracket - a proper professional. Im hoping they get appointed this week, however if Pereira was the surprise appointment I wouldn't be disappointed but if its any of the names that have been mentioned like McCall, Davies, McInnes or Mcleish then Id expect a really rough ride over the next 3 years.
  25. Good to see a great team lift another CL cup and put their total number of wins up a bit. Its also good to see the return of a strong Italian team in the competition but they were up against a player who is unplayable. I think Serie A is on its way back to being a stronger league and we will see more Italian teams going further over the next 5 years. The Milan clubs need to get sorted out though. That's 4 years in a row I have backed the runners up from the last 16 stage....unbelievable. Bayern in 2012, Dortmund in 2013, Atletico in 2014 and Juventus 2015. Im taking an each way bet next season.
