  1. I think there has been 2 decent games of football played on the new Wembley, every other game has been rotten in the 8 years its been open and I find that no coincidence. The pitch is also awful and most sides say it ruins games. The Community Shield isn't to be taken too seriously, Arsenal stuffed Man City 3-0 last year but were still the same on league business. But this Arsenal side have been consistent in 2015. I would imagine Chelsea going out and splashing some cash this week on Pogba and a striker. No way can they go into a season with Costa picking up niggles all the time and Falcao being doubtful.
  2. Wrong room. But Ashley is splashing the cash their this summer. Just over 30 million spent so far on 3 players. The only thing I don't get from the Newcastle fans is they didn't seem to catch on that Ashleys commitment interview was done purely because he wont get Sports direct advertised in the Champions League via Ibrox. It was practically the day after he realised this.
  3. I would fancy us to do a better job at Wembley than Hampden, we have always seemed to do ok there and poor at home. The 3-2 friendly defeat was unlucky in 2013, we should have got a draw. Previous to that was our 1-0 win in the Euro qualifier and Dave Seaman somehow stopped that Dailly header from taking it to extra time. At Euro 96 we were far on top until McAllister missed the pen then Gazza went up the park a minute later with that bit of genius.
  4. Eh??? You have lost me. I am saying its a culture issue and not a sporting one. Having a few drinks has absolutely no impact on success. George Best and Paul Gascoigne weren't exactly Tee Total. Are you saying that professionals live on drink and don't do the 'right' things 6 out of 7 days?
  5. That has nothing to do with it. Remind me the last time Australia won or came close to winning a Rugby World cup? Not too long ago! And the drinking culture in Australia is on par with the UK.
  6. I wouldn't say its a drinking problem, its a behavioural problem. Ive been to many places where drinking doesn't get out of hand. But then again its not just Scottish Society, there are other places with the same behaviour. But on topic Ive no problem if Warburton has said to them go out and have 3 or 4 drinks but be home by 11pm and report to training Monday morning. The photo actually looks good, they are all sitting minding their own business with smiles on their faces in a small corner causing no trouble.
  7. If it was taken on Saturday night Im guessing they have Warburtons permission for a couple of beers. The problem in society isn't so much having a few drinks, its the social media issue now. You cant go anywhere without cameras all over you and stories can be made up at anytime.
  8. Probably will be nearer the time when it comes around as its a WC qualifier. But when the draw for Euro 96 was made in 1995 I was running around the room as the previous fixtures in the 80s were a only a light memory for me.
  9. Group winners qualify then the best 8 runners up (based on results against teams below them excluding the bottom side) play off. A harsh way for one runner up to lose out as some teams have harder games than others. Spain and Italy drawn in the same group plus Holland and France drawn together. Good games there and that's what I prefer to see rather than these teams always being top seeds. Although it is baffling how the 2006 4 times winners Italy are seeded pot 2 but Wales who are a international minnow bar the last 6 months are top seeds. Sounds like the SFA have influence here.
  10. Funny how the fixture didn't come up for years then we play them home and away in friendlies last season and all of a sudden we get them in the group. It will be good to have competitive games against them but I have to say Im nowhere near excited like I was at Euro 96 and Euro 00 qualifier....is it age?
  11. Saw Arsenal last week at the Asia Trophy and they are miles and miles ahead of Everton and Stoke. Even their young strikers like Akpom and Iwobi outshone likes of the 27m Lukaku. If they keep injured free then I would say they this is their year to win the league. The addition of Cech adds everything at the back plus title winning experience. Man Utd impressive result against Barca 3-1
  12. 10 game ban for calling someone a cheat?? Christian Dailly was made a hero after his rant against Germany.
  13. Benteke to complete move to Liverpool. Silly money again. Villa could get relegated this season.
  14. Am I old fashioned that I wish players would wear bigger shirts? Welcome aboard chaps....Don't know anything about either player but in Warburton we trust. Compare their physique to Boyd, no comparison.
  15. I Personally think this is the best shake up the club has had since Holmes came in and Brought Souness in in 86 which led to a great set up for the next decade. (The Advocaat reign was a delight but cheque book funded) I think Warburton is going to lay a terrific foundation....its up to the players to carry it out. As said earlier, only a fool would expect a magic wand to be waved by now. Hard graft earns itself and that's what its going to take.
  16. So far the right noises are coming out of Murray Park and a lot of hard work is being put in. But we would be fools to expect result overnight and W&W are going to need at least 6 competitive games to get their way of playing across. The task handed to them (the mess left behind) was huge and they more than deserve time to get it right.
  17. Fabian Delph does a U-turn and signs for Man City for 8 Million. Now that seems like a good deal and about right money compared to the other inflated prices.
  18. Liverpool have triggered the 32.5m release clause for Benteke. Talk about another overpriced tag. 81.5m switching hands for Sterling and Benteke just shows how inflated football has got. Liverpool need to offload a few more now. Balotelli, Lambert and Borini need to be shifted on.
  19. I kind of get the impression it will be different this season however lets see. I can see law being one of the players who will benefit from the new schedule. If anything they all have to impress.
  20. Ive been a fan of 3-5-2 over the years but it always depends on the players you have. For me Man Utd are much better with 4-4-2 which of course can be 4-3-1-2 or 4-1-4-1 etc...(these additional numbers in formations is silly as there is only 3 areas of a pitch) They will be very dangerous with Di Maria and Depay down the wings (with Janazai and Young as back up) plus Herrera, Carrick, Blind and Fellaini wont be starters. It will be good to see a strong Man Utd again for some reason.
  21. Agreed Sterling at 49M is laughable. As you say its down to those paying the money out and not a value. If Sterling is 49M what would Hazard, Coutinho, Silva etc be. Sanchez was what 17m less than Sterling and id rather have a half fit Sanchez in my team. Sterling cant even cross a ball. id say Oxlade-Chamberlain is a better player and he isn't even a first team pick for Arsenal.

    Strikeforce

Aye sort that out I think Warburton will give all their chance to impress and make a claim for the shirt. I wouldn't be surprised to see Miller being used due to experience. I also think we will get a new face in before the first games. However isn't it great knowing McCulloch and Boyd wont be an option upfront? Kilmarnock have their work cut out. Wouldn't be surprised to see them do ok there just to prove a point to themselves.
  23. With Van Gaal you probably think he will go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 with Depay upfront. But Man Utd just need to be a 4-4-2 team, anything else just doesn't look right. They now have the players for a proper midfield and is their best options since Keane and Scholes. If they get a centre half I might have a punt on them winning the league.
  24. Van Ginkel (loan), Given and Glen Johnson all sign for Stoke. They have done some good business. Looking forwarded to seeing them this week - something I never thought id say.
  25. Disagree. You use the system to your advantage and if others want to put a small club mentality on it then so be it, that's their decision. But when you are in a rebuilding phase (3 years to late BTW) then I certainly don't look at it as being a small club thing.
