[2023] Who should be the next Rangers manager?
Gribz replied to BlackSocksRedTops's topic in Rangers Chat
Kind of knew that would have been brought up and was going to add a bit about this on original post. Its more about getting the right people in the right positions whether that means former players or not. The Laudrups and T Steven are adopted Bears which is significant. I think we are in bad way and Beale hit a destructive button in the summer and it may be that going down the former player route is what it takes to build things from scratch again, as it looks like a bit of a mammoth task of a job for anyone. Its not that I am adamant that ex players should be in the set up, I wasnt for Souness returning but certain values seem like they need to be put in place at the moment. -
[2023] Who should be the next Rangers manager?

From the list I quite like the idea of Knutsen, he seems a very modern day type of coach. I also like Hasselhuttl but I'm not sure he has what it takes to get the better of Rodgers. Rodgers has a far better record from the Premier in England, although I havent searched their head to heads. Lampard - Id rather have a Lamppost. But the set up that I would realistically hand pick is: Director of Football - this role seems to vary club to club so it could be tailor made (Literally) for Richard Gough. Alternatively, Trevor Steven may be a good left field option for this. I believe he had previously been running a Sports Management Business in the Middle East which would give him a bit of corporate experience and skills needed, added to the fact he had one of the best footballing brains on the pitch that has pulled on the Blue Jersey. On the field: Manager - Michael Laudrup Coaches / Assistants - Brian Laudrup and Neil McCann (plus obviously a few others) If the players didn't learn anything from those three then they are in the wrong profession. -
For some reason I'm longing for Kent at the moment. Beale's honeymoon period was over months ago but for some reason it seems to have a new lease because of the turnover of players. But all these incomings are his signings and you would at least think he had an inkling of what he wants to do - I'd actually say he had more of a clue last season. And what about Cantwell - I dont want to single him out but I'd have had him as my favourite for POTY this season but he looks a shadow of himself at the moment. Granted its early days to gel the new players but having read the thread some posters have mentioned they are seeing the same things as past years. Beale's stock hasnt quite dropped yet, its obvious he was the brains behind Gerrard and everyone saw how QPR dropped like a stone when he left but sometimes in football people are just far more suited to being a number 2 or 3. But we have to start seeing progression and Sunday is an absolute must win.

Having raked through the T&C of Gersnet (trust me as an ex law student this was fun especially with you) so I suggest you reset the original thread name as it had zero threat unless you found it so. Please reset it.

Please Re-quote the name to Engerland or provide me a reason.

Quite an interesting point - considering I take more note on England than Scotland these days I certainly think its worth a football chat. I dont even recognise half the scottish squad now and when someone like McGinn can be a few caps off someone like Souness then something has went far wrong with international football. However your point - who cares - if you didnt you wouldnt need to post anything. But England certainly intrigues a large quanity of our (Rangers support). Considering the majority of the football I watch is Premier League being overseas then I certainly take an interest and I like to see England in a tournament - although getting knocked out around the Quarters / Semi's is a preference. I know there are plenty Tartan army who simply support anyone who plays England and I dont like that type of view - I personally lived down south and went to school there and made a lot of good friends so can relate more to them. As for now I think with the right manager in charge they could be serious contenders for World Champions, under Southgate I cant see it for a few reasons. Anyway - just saying - Because I actually care.

I agree he has been let off lightly after a poor club albeit short stint. I think he is the FA's dream though and much more of a Director of Footbal - although Im still trying to work out that role half the time especially Mark Noble is now Sporting Director at West Ham. You cant look past Englands run to the Semi's at the WC and the Final of the Euro's - both were pretty simple and the Euro's were practically at home. I just think England have a cracking squad and havent had this amount of talent for a long time, they could be wasting a WC with Southgate at the helm. If 'Arry Redknapp was 10 years younger he would be brilliant for this crop and just let the handbrake off them.

Any reason why you went so formal and changed the thread from Engerland to the England national team?

International week as depressing as usual but England are having a few problems with the World Cup less then 2 months away. They are having their worst run in years with no goals in open play for hours of football. But its Southgate's selections that are puzzling: 1) Maguire constantly being picked when there are far better options like Ben White, Tomori, Coady to name a few. Maguire hasnt kicked a ball for Man U in weeks. 2) Playing a back 3 who have never played together 2 games before a world cup is leaving it a bit late and only 1 of them is a natural centre half. 3) He must have been the only Englishman in the world who would have started Saka at RWB ahead of Trippier and Chilwell even though Saka played there for Arsenal in the past. And when making the Sub it was Shaw who hasnt kicked a ball recently for Man U either to come on for Saka ahead of the in form Trippier and Chilwell. 4) Leaving Ben White and James Madison out of the squad is baffling. 5) Calls up Toney and he doesnt even make the bench against Italy - GS said the reason is he is just integrating him to the squad - yet he can play a back 3 who havent played together which is a bit late to integrate. Only Germany at home on Monday to try out more options before their opener against Iran, who are no mugs - they beat Uruguay 2-0 yesterday.

Happy 60th Super Ally. He's doing alright for the Six Zero.

Agree. Its always a high tempo game at Tynecastle with a rocking atmosphere but to be thinking about dropping points there shouldnt enter the head. Aside - back to Saturdays game, Dundee Utd home or away was one of the fixtures I used to enjoy most and attended but I found myself trying to get motivated after the first 15 minutes and it was really difficult - that stems from on the pitch.

Man alive! See my post in Premier League thread and Ive been gentle. In saying that stranger things have happened its not beyond the impossible and is not particularly unrealistic.

Moyes is beginning to crack and show his faults - putting the blame onto senior players when he constantly plays Bowen, Soucek, Fornals and Antonio who are all bang out of form. Antonio isnt even a striker and should be moved the wing. The nonsense he comes out with saying he needs in embed new signings slowly but the defender Kehrer played the same day as he signed and has been in the team ever since and is a step back from Dawson and Ogbonna. The Europa run papered over a lot of cracks last season - Crystal Palace, Southampton, Leeds, Brighton, Newcastle, Brentford and Burnley ALL got something at the London stadium last season. Arsenal were very good on the eye yesterday, it was a Wenger-esk at peak performance and the transformation that Arteta has done this season is massive. Saliba is a rolls royce, Partey when fit controls games and Jesus is sublime - how did he not get more game time at City.
-
And it makes our draw at Easter Road more frustrating. But those who said league was over after the last OF game were knee jerking - we have to win the next OF game - but prior to that dont drop silly points on the way.
-
Haaland is going to get 45 goals if he stays fit, what a player. Eddie Howe's honeymoon period is clearly over - a few boos around ST James' yesterday. He has put together a very decent XI and they are away from relegation but they should have won their last 2 games now. I dont see where Leicester get a win from, their defence is scary bad. But Spurs are flying in the league under Conte and I can see them being 2nd this season - which is where I had them at the start of the season due to the Conte factor, Son and Kane being so good and Liverpool not addressing their weak midfield problem. If Thiago, Fabinho and Keita could play 30+ games each then they would challenge but they are lucky to get 30 between them and they turn to Milner, Henderson and a youngster Elliott which is a very average midfield. Huge game at Goodison today. Come you Irons.

Thought we started well but it just switched off after going 1-0 up. What is it with Rangers managers though and being frightened to play 2 upfront and just 1 holding midfielder especially against dross in the SPL. Someone said it earlier imagine how many goals Colak would get with more creativity in the team, I hope Hagi hurrys back. Perhaps Morelos wasnt ready to start consecutive games after just starting for the first time in 6 months against Napoli but Id love to see both Morelos and Colak together in these type of games. Conte put Son on the bench yesterday for Spurs and it worked wonders - the same should apply to Kent. Overall I think GvB is to soft and despite showing tactical nous in the Europa last season he doesnt do it domestically and something clearly isnt right. I would like to see Gattuso' passion on the touchline or Sean Dyche who stands for no nonsense and overachieves with average players.
-
Even if he could string 3 games together he isnt an impact player which is what we are crying out for.

Who would be next up at Brighton? They have a great set up and are very well ran with a cracking scouting system - Potter has left them in great shape. They have taken 80m from Chelsea this summer for a left back and a manager that cost them next to nothing.
-
Think he did that at Southampton pretty well.

I would be happy enough with your team, but I think I would maybe play two upfront tonight and throw Morelos in. Im a huge Kent fan but perhaps start him on the bench or alternatively put him in for Tillman. But I quite like this: McGregor Tavernier Goldson Lundstram Sands Barisic Arfield Kamara Tillman Morelos Colak -
I think Chelsea is the perfect job for Pochettino and Poch the perfect manager for Chelsea. Its great timing, he is on a free and I think he would be suited to a top 6 club. I really hope Potter stays at Brighton, his stock is going up by the week and Chelsea is a pack of cards at the moment and he could undo all the good work he has done. At the moment he is probably a cert for the next England manager unless Howe keeps progressing. A good job for Potter next would be Newcastle, Villa, West Ham etc - the next batch of clubs after the big 6 - thats unless he gets the England job after the world cup.

I think thats a knee jerk reaction, a bit of madness to spend 270M and get rid straight away. It was obvious something wasnt right but it looks like the owner made the signings and wants his own man in charge. Tuchel did superbly when he came in, he beat Klopp, Pep, Mourinho, Ancelotti and Simeone in his first few months without conceding before winning the CL. And he acted very admirably when Chelsea's future was in doubt. Early runners and riders must be Pochettino, Potter and Simeone. Edit - Add Zidane as he is short odds
