Agreed with hindsight Weir came to the club at 37 after plying his days for Everton. It was the club who extended his career as much as he played well. The only thing baffling me still is why would the club waive compensation if they are resigning. No pay off should be part of them decided to go.

Yip agree with that Boabie but I still wouldnt say no. FdB has Arsenal and Barca on his radar (whether they have him is another question). Inter was a set back for him so he will be looking to go somewhere and win again though. Neil McCann is someone who talks a load of sense and would be good in the set up in some capacity. Whether he gives up his cushy job at the moment is doubtful - he co commentates for a Premier League game every week for Premier League TV.

Agreed. And another reason is the person has to know the expectations that anything other than 2nd this season is not acceptable. Therefore ugly winning would be OK until the end of the season. So it would need to be someone who knows what the club is about. But the main thing is to think longer term for next season and Im liking the thought of Gary Rowett. No compensation, and very promising.

There is a pattern that former good players cant coach their position. McLeish and McCoist straight away join Weir. Weir during his sole management spell at Sheff Utd was awful.

I wouldnt say no to Walter Smith until the end of the season. Just get results over the line. But for me we would need to unearth a Marco Silva rather than going down the McInnes, Davies route. Gary Rowett springs to mind. Could we get a F De Boer or Michael Laudrup? I think its 2-3 years too early for them in our current climate.

Thats scary. The money we get for finishing second is the difference to a team like Bournemouth finishing 13th instead of 15th. You just wonder what will happen if the English league does get into trouble. Leeds and Portsmouth will look success stories. I was listening to Talksport the other day who were saying they would rather see Villa, Newcastle, Leeds etc in the top flight instead of burnley, Bournemouth and Hull etc - I find this unfair but true at the same time. Yes on paper the big teams playing each other is more attractive but teams are their on merit. But it made me think would they not rather have Rangers (and unfortunetely) Celtic turning up at Stamford bridge and Anfield rather than the Hulls and Burnleys. It would help their product even more.

Wouldn't mind seeing that and then Burnley getting something against Chelsea but Liverpool seem to turn up in the big matches.
