Plenty goals in the last 16 first legs. 34 goals in 8 games averaging 4.25 goals a game. Man City v Monaco was a great game but Monaco will be kicking themselves for not at least drawing. Falcao who looks back to a world class striker missing that penalty at 2-1 was the turning point. At 4-3 your thinking what a classic and the 2nd leg would be great - but at 5-3 that changes both teams approach.

Didn't see Hibs getting through when draw was made but if the teams who are expected to go through in the semis do go through then Id want them next. If Rangers, Aberdeen, Celtic and Hibs do get through Id imagine the hot and cold balls would be out for the draw after the final last year making us likely to get Aberdeen or Celtic.

I know it will be a generation thing but Laudrup is the greatest player Ive seen in Gers shirt. Not just a top player but a truly class man. Shame he left when he did, Chelsea were a rotating team then and it didn't work out for him - how I would have loved to see him in Advocaats team. He could have been converted into a number 10.

Graeme Murty handed a fitness boost as Niko Kranjcar back in training
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
How many games did it take Niko to get up to speed at the start of the season from a summers rest? He was only coming onto a good game a few weeks before his injury - therefore he will probably take longer to get back to match fitness. Ideally a few 30 minute run outs then a couple of matches before the end of the season and a full pre-season then he can give us one good season next year. -
Tav has a burst of pace and good skill yet isn't the best defensively, id be looking at playing him further forward permanently.

When was the last time we played consistent top flight winning good football - Advocaats first 2 seasons after an 80 million bank roll. How do you expect us to be winning well with average players? Even our UEFA run in 2008 as good as it was there wasn't much great football and we didn't show up in the final. If we start from scratch then it could be a season finishing around 4th. Football is all about finance these days therefore we should be doing everything we can to cement 2nd (even though 3rd will qualify for Europe) and then go all out to qualify for the group stages to bring in that needed funding. That said you do get certain good manager who can come in start winning with attacking enjoyable football - Harry Redknapp straight away comes to mind and if we are looking for a caretaker we would be mad to not at least approach Harry.

To be honest Id have McKay over Billy Davies that's how much I don't want the latter. Prior to what happened with Cardiff I thought he was a 'decent' manager but I think his managerial career is ruined in UK - a bit like Allardyce with Palace, he maybe came back too soon. Its sad that the SFA can only bring in desperate ex footballers for such positions.

A lot comes down to the strength of the centre halfs. Neville, Irwin, Evra etc at Man Utd were safe to fly down the wing as they had Rio, Stam, Vidic etc at the back plus a solid midfield who would get back and make the numbers. But at the same time they need to be able to defend also like Neville, Ashley Cole, Winterburn and Dixon. I also find it interesting how they play as wingers going forward - scary to think Gareth Bale started purely as a left back and was turned into one of the best player around at the moment. At Rangers we have had some good full backs who always got to the by line - Gary Stevens, Stuart Munro, Davie Robertson, Arthur Numan, Alan Hutton and Tavernier at the moment is our best winger.

I see your points but unfortunately the demand at Ibrox is immense and we may see another PLG type appointment where we try to play football, change diets off the park but he wont get time. That's not to say PLG would have worked out but the difference is Rangers demand winning, Southampton can afford defeats and are a stepping stone for likes of Koeman and Poch - and while they both play good football they certainly would be involved in decision making off the park. You are right how Southampton have implemented this throughout their club from U14s to the first team but they went down to league 1 while doing this. If ever we had a chance to do it then it was 2012 and play the youth but now we are back in the top flight being top 2 is a must again and that means winning ugly. Its still only stage 2 in the recovery and finishing second is the target then getting further income from the Europa league. If the board can get the merchandising side with Ashley sorted between playing Europa league and having further income it will then allow us to buy a better standard of player as we go on. This is where FdB would be good, I think he would mix youth with experience and play well...and Murray Park needs to start producing - it was set up for state of the art yet just hasn't produced bar maybe Alan Hutton who we got a good fee for. Perhaps I'll throw Allan McGregor in as a success also.

Graeme Murty will Stay in Rangers hotseat for Old Firm showdown
Gribz replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Not exactly inspiring news to read. Nothing against Murty but I don't think he is Rangers manager material. -
Probably need the opposite, there is so much wrong with Scottish Football. We need someone who has tactical knowledge and isnt afraid to change things, therefore i dont care where he comes from. A Marco Silva has to be out there somewhere although FdB or Michael Laudrup is still my preference.

It really should be a Premier League 2. Are PNE a big side though Scott? The others you have listed are. Even League 1 - Bolton, Sheff Utd, Charlton and Coventry. The latter are having a nightmare, and to recall they were a decent Premier team not so long ago.
-
Nah dont know about getting Craig out haha....but yeah agree any others would be good. Im pretty sure I'll cross paths with Craig someday anyway. Only person Ive met on here now is Frankie. I met Eightball twice and Smalce twice on different occasions. Also met Gav twice and Cammy, Del and Barry but obviously not on enough occasions. If I was still in the Uk id have met more. Will see what i can do about april - ive got to go to beijing, Shenzhen and perth in the coming weeks first.

Probably deserves a thread of its own. By far the most competitive league in the world. Always entertaining. Glad to see Sheff Wed doing well, would love to see them back up along with Leeds and Newcastle but Brighton are going to go up and fair play to Chris Hughton who is proving to be a quality manager. Cardiff are on a roll now and Warnock knows how to get results in this league. Aston Villa - what is going on there. I thought Steve Bruce would turn them around and get to the play offs but are only 6 points clear of the relegation zone. Blackburn - another big name who could go down, wouldnt care if they did as their owners are nuts.
-
Im also penciling in a trip soon. If it coincides with this then count me in. Ive got a bit of trekking to do in March then I'll be over.
-
Would still prefer Walter if he would take it until the end of the season. But Big Eck would get a response.
-
Chelsea v Man Utd - bumper tie Tottenham v Millwall Middlesboro v Man City or Huddersfield Arsenal or Sutton v lincoln Should be Chelsea, Spurs, Man City and Arsenal in the last 4.
-
We need to make a move sooner rather than later and get a response. 6 points behind Aberdeen and 21 goal difference.
-
Welcome back ascender. Murty will probably be getting assessed for a few games to see if he is capable. Today will be interesting...
-
Could be worse, we could have him playing today. Thats shocking for a professional. I would actually probably have him over Garner though. Both cant play but Boyd could at least score against lower league teams....I await a backlash [/img]

Who really is next...the silence is deafening. Could it be we cant / wont appoint anyone until MW and DW situation is concluded? That could drag on.
-
Bizarre one with Rossiter. However these two players on their best form will be assets. Windass has been a bit of a let down yet he showed promise on his debut. He needs to knuckle down and get himself in the team. His old man said he could play for England, well he has a bit of work to do.
-
Team news: Rangers interim boss Graeme Murty hopes to have captain Lee Wallace fit. Josh Windass is recovering from an ankle knock but fellow midfielders Jordan Rossiter and Niko Kranjcar remain out. Dundee's last home win over Rangers in the league came in 1992. Rangers have won 14 of their last 16 top-flight encounters with Dundee, drawing the other two. Harry Forrester has scored in both of Rangers' wins over Dundee this season.

Dodoo deserves a chance, he showed he has a good finish but wasnt given a chance after Firhill. Miller has carried the team so for me it would be Miller and Dodoo. I like Waghorn but think he is more effective down the inside right position. Obviously he didnt get on with MW in latter days therefore could flourish. Looking forward to the game, Dens Park was always a good day out in the younger years.
