Yup my school holidays from aged 7 or 8 until 17 consisted of playing football even twice a day even during term time we'd play at school every lunch time and then 5 a sides in the winter nights or in the park in the summer. I remember in one of my older houses when I was around 9 years old we had a great patch of grass in a cul-de-sac and about 7 or 8 kids from the street would play every day until a council sign went up saying No Ball Games because a few old residents weren't happy about the ball rolling under their cars. Disgrace. I think a switch to Summer football would help standard from a clubs point of view but grass roots have to do something about getting kids in playing without worrying about posting their lunch photos.

All leave cancelled as Pedro Caixinha cracks whip at Rangers

Nothing wrong with going in for a recovery day although players still do need time off like everyone else - however to go in temporarily on a Wed to make improvements is a good attitude to take. But it depends on their daily hours and if they get other time off. I honestly wouldn't know what a footballers schedule is but it is probably different at every club. It could either be sitting at home watching TV or sitting in luxury facilities at Murray Park doing light walking, Jacuzzi's or massages. -
Last CL game I was at. Unfortunately not the last Euro match as I made a Malmo game later in the year which wasn't quite as good.

Scottish Premiership stars with contracts running out this summer

That's the first thing that came to mind for me also. There is nobody on the list we should be aiming to sign from other clubs. Hill and Miller should be given another year but Senderos hasn't worked out and will move on. -
Scotland losing against Slovenia would be for the greater good...

An 88th minute winner papered over cracks and Strachan should leave to give someone a chance in the second have of the qualifying campaign. Drawing with Lithuania was the last straw. Who could come in? Well Malky McKay would probably be favourite unbelievably. But Big Eck should get it as he is proven to get a reaction straight away and that is whats needed for the last 5 games. After that it will be between McInnes and Lambert. -
Voting for the clubs player of the year is now open.

Miller, Hill, Hyndman are the top 3. But I would have to give it to Kenny. Hill had a slow start. Hyndman has been a breath of fresh air and I thought Toral would have been the better player but Hyndman has been. -

Indyref - joker. I still think Strachan should move aside, having McGhee is embarrassing. Half way through the qualifiers give someone else a chance. Scotland need 4 wins from 5 games to get to the play offs. We've no chance of beating England so then will need to win in Slovenia and Lithuania - chances?? -
3 foreigner rule would be one. But its all about improving the current product and without TV money its summer football. Smart phones and TVs have taken over the mind of kids and no longer do you get young ones wanting to kick a coke bottle around. This is why you will see countries like Chile, Uruguay and African countries start to do well in tournaments because you will find Alexis Sanchez in the street. You wont find a Davie Cooper in a burger king. Same goes for Wales - without Gareth Bale they wouldnt win games.
-
Imagine a team containing Roberts, Brown, Hurlock, I Ferguson, Souness, Albertz, D Ferguson....and they could all play a bit also! The Hammer was a gentle giant but you wouldnt mess with him.
-
They were in the squad along with Trevor Steven but dont think they played much that season. Midfield in 8IAR was mainly made up from Gascoigne, Laudrup, McCall, Miller, McInnes, I Ferguson. EDIT - How could I leave out McCall.
-
Miko was a very good player and at a time when we had the 3 foreigner rule got into the side no end. Him and Huistra were very good but Laudrup arrived and blew them out the water and took our level of expectation higher.

Reminds me of the Lovenkrands cup final. I had had a bit of a late night and woke up at 2-2.

Chris Martin booed coming on then gets the winner. -
I think Big Duncan Ferguson would have eaten Vinnie Jones. Roy Keane didnt back down from much but he did from Ferguson.

I mean Big Dunc...Burglar beater doesnt get any harder than that. Roy Keane wouldnt even go near him. Big Dunc all day long

Why Rangers should close the gap without spending heavily
Gribz replied to Rousseau's topic in Rangers Chat
Thats all I can agree with you. Rangers 80s awful. Celtic 90s awful. 2000s even. 2010s Rangers awful. Who is to say in 10 years it wont be Celtics turn again to be in the dire. However where I disagree with you is the comeback approach we need to take. We cant automatically become No.1 overnight again. With the money Sky pump into England even the best Rangers sides would struggle to compete. Rome wasnt built in a day as they say so we have to take one step at a time. I go back to not getting promotion under McCoist in the Championship - a disaster but a blessing - we weren't ready. To give Warburton credit he came in and sorted out the footballing side and this is our first season back. This side has never played top flight football before so it will take a year to steady. Next year is when we can add judgments like yours. -
Aside from Pete's thread which I mentioned in - who would the hardest player be? Terry Hurlock was scary and an animal but Duncan Ferguson for me.
-
Yes thought about him when I mentioned Mendieta. He was sublime one night.
-
Another good question would be who is hardest player to play at Ibrox. Terry Hurlock was an animal But Big Duncan Ferguson wins that easily Battered burglars - there is no competition.
-
Again - A generation thing which will have various great answers. Mendieta for Valencia was terrific on the night. 99-2000 was it? Lothar Matthaus for Bayern but he didnt play well. Giggs for Man Utd. As Gunslinger said - Buffon - best goalkeeper of all time for me. The list is massive when you say who is the best who has played there. But it should be given to someone in a Gers Jersey.
-
Sebo.... Brian Laudrup for me. 4 years of absolute class.
-
Its a good generation debate with Baxter and Cooper. For me Laudrup was the best. We had good wingers in Walters, Huistra and Mikhailichenko then Laudrup came and was on a different level. Could play left and right and should have been kept to play centre when Advocaat came.

Why Rangers should close the gap without spending heavily

We are a newly promoted team who have obviously had off the park issues. 8 points behind Aberdeen only hit during a barring run of 4 bad games which saw the end for Warburton. I dont think we are 8 point worse than Aberdeen level wise - they have hit form. To qualify for Europe in our first top flight campaign in 5 years is an achievement when changing manager. People need to reflect back to 2, 3, 4 years ago when we are away to East Fife and Cowdenbeath. Lets steady the ship first. Aberdeen have a habit of finishing second at the moment, thats their goal by beating the rest of the league - we need to get back to doing that. Inverness and Dundee away have made us slip up but 8 points is only 3 games and we have Aberdeen twice. -

Have to agree. I dont like having a go at individuals (unless it was Boyd in past years ) but the games ive seen Garner he doesnt look like a goalscorer at all. He plays with his back to goal which means he always going to need link up play unless all of a sudden he gets Michael Mols ability and can turn a man as if he isnt there. I watched the 1987 League cup final after the Cooper thread and Super Ally played with his back to goal in winning the free kick for Coopers hit, and he laid it off for Durrants second - but it shows Ally in his younger days was a class act. Garner just doesnt cut the mustard for me.
