  1. To be fair you have made a pretty realistic list and other than them its difficult to come up with names. Its a tricky one to come up with names who jump out. Perhaps a runner up or a close semi final exit but he'd also need to be impressive in the last 7 games in the league. He may put all eggs into the European basket but the bread and butter (a lot of dairy being mentioned here) is the league. There is no doubt the Europa is an aim and the players are also enjoying the ride but that journey ends soon and we need a winning team from the first ball being kicked next season. The players are capable, the recent OF and Euro games show they are better overall than the current league point tally. My fear about BF is if he got the job full time he changes and becomes a dictator type which will lose the dressing room straight away.
  2. This crossed my mind also this morning when I saw it. I can imagine he will be away in the summer
  3. At least they are competing a bit more and a cert to be playing Premier League football in the new stadium.
  4. I like Hasenhuttl and would take him first from the list. Knutsen could be good as well. I certainly dont want Martin. Bielsa obviously with being at Leeds before may be an outside shout. But a couple of things against him - 1) He still doesnt speak English does he? So he would need 2 interpreters coming north of the border. 2) He likes to operate with a small squad - Given our injury record we'd be better being in a 7 a side league. Plus we would need to borrow Oor Wullie's bucket for the sidelines. But he would be a very interesting appointment.
  5. Only One specific game? The Bundesliga are the best for it - but it happens throughout Europe that they get pretty much most of their games moved before big European nights. Its not going to help in the qualifiers at all but the rest of the SPFL are getting knocked out by teams you cant even pronounce never mind recognise.
  6. Silly bets are often worth it, especially midweek as Ive found results go against the odds quite regularly in midweek. Tarkowski should have seen a straight red. Whilst Ipswich won, result of the night goes to The Villa. Forest did all the hard work on Tuesday night but Newcastle, Villa and City all won and Chelsea could win tonight meaning they still have work to do. Plus its Villa v Forest on Saturday evening.
  7. He surprised everyone with this line up and nobody is sure what his tactics were. Guilherme was playing central in his first league start when he is a out and out winger. Wan Bissaka has been the best player this season and has done well at RWB but is far better at RB in or right side of a back 3. Coufal cant defend for toffee but is a good RWB and whips crosses in. I quite like Mavropanos but he has a big error in him, Todibo is easily the best CH and has been on the bench. Scarles has promise but still raw. Potter doesnt fancy Emerson at all which is bizarre as getting down the left is his strength. The issues lie with Sullivan though, he only goes for managers who are available on a free. But even Pro Potter fans went bonkers on Tuesday night after having 2 weeks with the squad during the international break that drivel was served up.
  8. They have got worse under him. He is playing Cresswell (33) ahead of Emerson, he brought back Ward-Prowse and is playing him who does nothing. His preferred midfield 3 is Soucek, Alvarez and JWP which has no creativity at all. The midfield should be Alvarez (holding), Paqueta (box to box) and Kudus (attacking). Its the third manager appointment in a row which has totally split the fan base.
  9. And Forest go marching on. First time Ive been convinced now they will get Champions League, they have opened a good gap especially if the teams below drop points. Plus with 5th place almost a cert then they are only looking at Newcastle with 2 games in hand plus City and Chelsea going on a winning run. As for Man Utd - I dont even see them being a top 8 club again for a good 2-3 years. This manager needs a 5 year rebuild. West Ham - what was the point of Potter, I still fail to see what he has done to get that job. 1 good season out of 3 at Brighton who are the best ran club in the country and all the players were given to him with their model. The clud are screaming for someone like Thomas Frank.
  10. Thankfully there is games back - although there has been a load of disappointing games recently. Not sure there is need for a Thursday fixture - just play 5 and 5 over two nights. Arsenal 2-0 Fulham Wolves 0-1 West Ham Nottingham Forest 1-1 Man Utd Bournemouth 3-1 Ipswich Brighton 1-1 Aston Villa Man City 4-0 Leicester Newcastle 2-2 Brentford Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace Liverpool 3-0 Everton Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham
  11. Yes Villa are my preference, I like Emery a lot.
  12. I wasnt bothered about the first 3 ties, but was hoping Bournemouth would complete a tidy final four. The Nottingham Forest v Man City tie at Wembley is madness especially as its been given the Sunday TV slot. That should be played in the North or the midlands. (Villa Park, Elland Road, Old Trafford, Anfield to name a few) and Palace v Villa could be played at either Spurs, Arsenal or West Ham grounds. Anyone but Man City to win the cup will do me.
  13. Gordon Ralston Souttar Hanley Robertson Gilmour McLean Christie McTominay McGinn Adams
  14. Very unlikely. But as well as Ferguson at the tail end of the old Division one George Graham and Kenny Dalglish were splitting titles between them. From 1986 until Wenger in 1998 only the 2 Howards got 1 title apiece the rest was won by the 3 Scots. Even 4 italians have won it since Wilkinson. You and Compo (and Busters XI) are welcome to place any Pre-Premier League team. When pundits go on about someone breaking Shearer's 260 tally they forget he has got 283 top flight goals with 23 coming 1988-1992.
  15. My bad! Yes definitely gets into a squad. Top drawer at Chelsea. Chelsea at one time had Hazard, Mata, De Bruyne and Salah - Imagine those 4 playing at the top of their game with Matic at the time behind and Costa upfront - they would have been frightening.
  16. Colin Hendry won the league in 1995 with Blackburn - he is worth a mention. Gary McAllister also had a good career down south. The Manager of any team would be Scottish anyway. Its still unbelievable no Englishman has won their national league since the intro of the Premier League.
  17. Its good @Rousseau I added Beckham, Ljungberg and Van Persie to the earlier squad post. And I remembered Kante is actually still playing in Saudi. Its a pity most wingers were left sided. But Gerrard had an amazing season on right midfield one year scoring 17 goals. Schmeichel Campbell Stam Vidic Gerrard Keane Vieira Giggs Bergkamp Shearer Henry
  18. International break so a bit of time to dabble with some all time Premier League teams whether it be a British & Irish XI, a foreign XI as well as an all time mixed XI. But I am only including retired players so Kyle Walker, Kante, De Bruyne, Salah, Haaland and Kane arent included. Firstly - a big squad to pick from shows the number of outstanding players - But please add any I have missed. Goalkeepers: Schmeichel, Seaman, Cech, Van Der Sar Defenders: RB's - G Neville, Dixon, Ivanovic, Zabaleta, Azpilicueta, Lauren LB's - Irwin, Winterburn, Pearce, Ashley Cole, Evra, Le Saux CH's - Adams, Bould, Keown, Bruce, Pallister, Terry, Carvalho, Ferdinand, Vidic, Stam, Campbell, King, Kompany, Desailly Midfielders: Keane, Scholes, Vieira, Petit, Fernandinho, Makelele, Gilberto, Gerrard, Alonso, Lampard, Essien, Ballack, Y Toure, Beckham Attacking Midfielders - Le Tissier, Juninho, D Silva, Ljungberg Wingers - Giggs, Robben, Pires, Ginola, McManaman, Overmars, Ronaldo (can also be a striker) Strikers / Forwards: No 10's - Cantona, Bergkamp, Zola, Rooney, Henry (latter 2 can also be wingers or a 9) No 9's - Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, Aguero, Suarez, Torres, Drogba, Costa, Andy Cole, Fowler, I Wright, L Ferdinand, Sheringham, Solskjaer, Anelka, Hasselbaink, Defoe, Keane, Bellamy, Van Persie
  19. Ive no idea how Adams managed to get a move to Serie A, he could barely score for Southampton as well. My point isnt just about the eligibility rule, its the lack of quality in Scottish strikers since I started watching football. The options in the mid to late 80s (Mexico 86 onwards): McCoist, McAvennie, Johnston, Sharp, Gray, Fleck, Speedie, Nicholas, McInally then into the 90s 00s Durie, Gallacher, Miller. Even John Robertson at Hearts then Billy Dodds were good strikers in their day compared to the options we have now. And I didnt mention Dalglish purely because I dont quite remember him as a player.
  20. Cant believe its international fortnight, how depressing. And there is games Ive got no idea about. Scotland are involved in some Nations League play offs along with other countries yet the World Cup qualifying also starts this week for certain groups - And some nations have Nations league Quarter finals! I had a look at the Scotland squad, the striker options are horrendous. Some Ipswich striker called George Hirst who played for England youths has been called up - I hadnt heard of him but read that his father was David Hirst who I recall from the early days in the Premier League for Sheff Wed. Diddo for Tommy Conway of Middlesborough. Che Adams is still getting called up, possibly the worst waste of space since Scott Booth or Darren Jackson upfront - at least the latter 2 were Scottish and scored the odd goal in the SPL. Kevin Nisbet completes the 4 Strikers so thats 1 out of 4 who are actually Scottish.
  21. This is very very difficult, I thought Sterling was awesome in the first half - that clearance off the line was sublime. All the subs did a good job as well. Im going to give my vote to Souttar.
  22. I got the AET bit wrong but still fancied the Toon.
  23. There is no doubt he and his team have produced some impressive tactical changes in the couple of big games he's had but permanent manager is a different proposition. Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a 3 year deal out of Man Utd for a decent interim spell which was a terrible decision in the end so we dont want to have a scenario like that.
  24. I mentioned this about being outnumbered in midfield so often 3 on 2 before the game, it was glaringly obvious it was the downfall in defeats. And when I saw their kind of unfamiliar line up I felt we had a chance - and was going to state no Kyogo is another factor. Last 3 matches against them has an aggregate of Rangers 9-5 Celtic, so perhaps a slight tilt now in our favour - its against the rest of the league where we have lost it.
  25. Cant believe I missed that from Cerny - although I was running around my living room at the time
