We used to prioritise killing animals humanely, and ensuring they were well looked after etc. That should remain the case, from a food safety and hygiene standpoint as well - I don't know if you've ever seen meat transported to Halal businesses, vans that aren't refrigerated, meat just stacked on top of each other, no hanging for separation.
