Defending isn't really particularly important for a wide midfielder. What a Scottish attitude . More to the point, he's entirely slow, plays the odd half decent ball but other than that added nothing and brought back painful memories of a certain Charlie Adam. Walter probably just bought him because he was good in the champions league 6/7 years ago and then looked ok in a friendly against us. Typical pathetic scouting.

I did read the post. You said that Real Madrid interest showed that he has improved. I'm saying he hasn't necessarily improved, he's still the same great player and the reason for more interest is because he's playing in a bigger and more relevant league. Simple enough?

Real Madrid are much more likely to buy a player in the premiership than one in the SPL. I've noticed in many of your posts that you apply very little logic in your thinking.

Cuellar was superb for us but wanted to leave and is having a decent season at Villa. Your point? Adam and Burke were murder more times than I care to mention. Wolves wanting to buy a player for �£2m and Burke playing well in the championship really doesn't account for much...

I said 'fairly redunant', not 'completely redundant'. Spurs are notorious for being an all out attack, dodgy defensively side anyway. If you look across Europe, regardless of what formation a side players there will 9/10 be 3 midfielders playing all capable of tucking in. If I was to think of a classic example to represent an ideal midfield 4 in modern football it would be the 90's Man Utd midfield 4 of a wide midfielder that can tuck in (Beckham), 1 winger (Giggs), one holding player/defensive (Keane), one attacking/creative player (scholes). 4-5-1/4-3-3 is very much the default formation now in world football although 4-4-2 has made a bit of a return this season in the premiership and it's working well for Chelsea (note how strong they are in central midfield). I actually think the side we played at Tannadice was a massive risk but I can't complain since it pulled off. Good to be taking positive risks for once I guess. I think as stated the simple fact of most players playing in proper positions will take care of games itself. Of course against Aberdeen at Pittodrie we played with hardly any midfield and it didn't work that day...

That's a lot of rubbish. The only reason he's a fan target is because he's put in so many shocking displays. It doesn't take much to please the Ibrox faithful anymore, we are used to watching pish.

People I know who follow French football closely said he'd been a shadow of himself for years and had no consistency whatsoever. Shame our scouts and management staff don't pay the same amount of attention to world football.

He'll only keep putting in performances in like that if he gets a chance. When you think of the dreadful performances we've consistently seen in wide midfield/attack in recent seasons, its beggers belief that an American internationalist with near 100 caps has barely got a look in. With the team as poor as they are it's ridiculous an experienced player with Champions league experience has barely got a look in. Beasley has his faults but he's a natural wide player with pace. We've endured countless anonymous performances from players out of position wide left like Lafferty and Smith when all the while we could have been playing people like Beasley or Aaron. As I said in another thread I don't think Beasley's a world beater and he's inclined to play the easy back pass a bit too much instead of attempting to beat players and put in crosses/shoot but ball retention is still an important aspect of football and something we lack. Even if Beasley DOES just keep possession on the left flank, he's doing more than Lafferty or Smith ever will. I'd love to see us playing an attack minded 4-3-3 with Beasley then possibly Fleck or Naismith supporting a main striker. As tight as things currently are we should still be capable of running riot against spl sides. And of course, the more Beasley plays the more confidence he will get and hopefully he will become the creative force we desperately require in the final third of the park and have essentially not had since De Boer/Prso.

We've also scored a measly 10 goals in away games all season so don't count your chickens. And we've been anything but 'awesome at home' this season. We have failed to win a third of all our games in the league and normally that would have us lagging behind Celtic.

4-4-2 with two attacking players on the wings is fairly redundant in modern day football as it leaves you far too exposed against any half decent midfield but in the SPL we rarely come up against half decent midfields so I suppose it doesn't matter. I'd like to see us playing a formation and starting 11 that remains the same regardless of the opposition. Possibly a 4-5-1/4-3-3 with the only change being the attacking mentality depending on the opponents.

I wouldn't notice if he wasn't playing so ban him all they want. Horrendous player. He's meant to be a forward/attacking midfielder and is murder. He was a 'standout' last night? I must have been watching a different game.

I'd have liked to see much more of Aaron (too late) and Beasley in the past few years. I don't think Beasley is a particularly wonderful player, but simply having some pace and a proper wide player on the park would make the world of difference. If Smith just put out a team all playing in their proper positions and asked them to focus on possession and adopt a positive outlook then I think things might be a bit different. Problem with WS and Eck before him (and PLG I guess) is the basics aren't being done. We could easily have a couple of fast players supporting a main striker. Best football we've played under Smith was against Hibs at Easter Road when we had Cousin through the middle, Burke on the right and Naismith on the left. It doesn't take superstars to put on a performance against SPL teams. He also has near 100 caps for USA which I think is a remarkable achievement for a 27 year old!

When you're starting most games at Ibrox in attack you're bound to notch up quite a few assists...6 goals this season isn't good enough. As I said in another topic, for every good Kenny Miller performance you get 5 bad ones.

A standing ovation? That's a bit embarrassing. A Rangers player playing well against a side as awful as St Johnstone should be bread and butter stuff. Miller's had a shocking season.
