  1. Decent players leave Ibrox so quickly now that its hard to see much of a future for Bougherra. I'm so used to seeing anonymous performances from players on the left (often out of position) that I'd settle for a natural inconcistent winger that is at least capable of getting down the left and supplying a half decent ball.
  2. The current squad is pretty damn woeful, that defence is murder, although we have 2 decent keepers to pick from. We've grown accustomed to some dodgy Scotland sides but usually there's a few key players to rely on. Now though, the squad looks like some mid table championship level group of players. Just over ten years ago we at least had a fully fit Weir, Hendry, Ferguson, Burley, McCann, Collins, Hutchinson etc that provided a strong back bone of experience and talent. We gave England a run for their money in Euro 2000 qualification. That would never happen with this current squad, it would be a walk in the park for them. The central defence is a big concern, we need a strong and reliable player there.
  3. If Lafferty was a free transfer he'd be a bad signing. At near £4m, he is an atrocious one. Steven Whittaker is better in the final third and he's a bloody fullback by trade. Yes Lafferty is yet another Rangers striker/forward to fall victim to getting shunted out of position more often than not but he doesn't even get the basics right. He's shown nothing in his entire club career to ever suggest he's got much talent. We seem to have bought him off the back of a few international performances. I also couldn't care who he supports or where he's from. Quality is what matters.
  4. This whole 'bank's business plan' is absolutely ridiculous. What other club operates under such a state? Fucking joke.
  5. And there lies the problems in telling the world how poorly you are financially and coming out with nonsensical statements like 'everyone has their price'. You don't see many clubs producing headlines like 'All players up for sale'. We are a PR disaster. Whether all players are up for sale or not, you create an image to the outside world of a stable club that won't accept derisory offers.
  6. Boumsong prior to Rangers was a highly rated French internationalist attracting widespread interest. Bougherra was a championship player with a pretty small reputation
  7. No doubt we'll somehow shoot ourselves in the foot by telling the media all players are up for sale and the first derisory offer will get accepted,
  8. If the injuries didn't ruin his chance of becoming a decent left back, then his manager's ignorant insistence in playing him bizarrely in midfield did. Another young player that might have made it had he got a run in his correct position. Walter's seems quite skilled in the art of ruining potential brilliance by turning them into makeshift jack-of-all-trades (Naismith, Fleck, etc). One wonders how many of our players in the last several seasons would have faired had they all just played in correct positions.
  9. If Bougherra's out of his depth in Europe then christ knows where the rest of the squad are
  10. There's football clubs in far greater debt to banks who have very little input from the bank.
  11. So the fact the statement came just after a humuliating defeat to Unirea was pure coincidence? I'm not denying the bank will have considerable influence/control but I think the statement was largely to defflect blame.
  12. You mean...this hasn't been done already
  13. was very much a PR statement done to ease the pressure on Smith after some abysmal results? Not long after he soon says by some sort of accounting miracle we might not have to sell anyone . Large new contract on offer for Kris Boyd to make him one of the SPL's highest earners. No players definitely on their way out... Yes we're in a poor financial state again (down to Smith and the board) but the whole dramatic 'bank is running the club' business certainly worked wonders to kill of any expectation in Europe. Finishing bottom and being humiliated by Unirea suddenly seemed acceptable because it looked like we were close to administration or something... Conversely, we have consistently in recent seasons given off an impression that we're completely broke, a selling club and the statement 'everyone has their price' is often heard (very few football teams would ever say that). The bank is running the club business didn't do the club a lot of good because its meant everyone thinks our players are available for dirt cheap prices (which they possibly are). No clubs are going to be making any high offers to a club deemed not far off from bankruptcy not so long ago. Either way, who knows, it's hard to dissect any logic from our club.
  14. He'll probably not even play up front. Never second guess what's in Walter's head...
  15. Erm...there's more to football than just going for a quick fast move. Youngsters can ruin their career by making the wrong move. If Wilson were to join Man Utd just now, he'd be miles away from their first team and could quite possibly spend the next couple of seasons on loan at lacklustre championship clubs. Even then, he might not even make it. Wesley Sneijder had loads of massive offers but stayed at Ajax till he was 23. I'd like to think that any promising young players we produce will at least stay for a few seasons then maybe consider moving if the time is right. Plus Wilson will get better and his value will increase in a few seasons, should he keep going.
  16. Jack of all trades master of none? Sounds perfect for Wattie. Can he play in goals?
  17. If you take all the money Smith has spent, a more talented manager could have assembled a quality side. Add up whats been spent on Mendes, Davis, Edu, Lafferty, Miller etc and it's serious cash and no wonder we're in this financial situation once again.
  18. When will he come good? He's 23 this year and playing in a league where the level of opponent is dreadful. While him being played out of position doesn't help, he doesn't even look like a footballer, like many of our squad. He can't get the basics right. Owen Coyle is clearly a very talented manager because he got rid of a mediocre player for a huge price tag. Another thing worth considering is that any half decent young British player in the championship immediately gets interest from all the premiership clubs like Spurs, Villa etc. How much interest did Lafferty have?
  19. Said at the time that we were paying an extortionate fee for a championship 'striker' with a terrible goal record who played more often than not out on the left. For us to spend that amount of money on a striker, they should have had a far greater pedigree. He's not even a quarter of the player Cousin was. Rangers spending near £4m on a player is like Man Utd, Chelsea etc spending £40m! It's pretty much the max we're going to spend for a while. Of course, as is the with many players who have failed under Smith, a run of games in his PROPER position would be nice. He's absolutely rotten wide on the left. Playing strikers out wide in a 4 man midfield is ridiculous. Eck did it all the time and so does Walter, invariably to little positive effect. Then Walter's solution was to switch Lafferty to the right. What little talent the young guy has will probably never come to fruition now. Just hope the same doesn't happen to Fleck. I think Walter often picks the left midfield position for reasons other than what they should be. EG a random big guy (Lafferty, McCulloch etc) to help with headers or someone like Stevie Smith (possibly even worse than Lafferty in midfield) to have an extra defender on the park. The 00's have been a pretty dark time for our club to say the least but I wonder how much money and points could have been saved had players just simply been played in their correct positions. I mean we even had Shota Arveladze, one of the most prolific strikers in European football in recent years, play more often than not in midfield. The season after he left us he banged in almost 40 goals for AZ.
  20. In the last 3 seasons even Steven Whittaker has scored more SPL goals. Great eye for goal does oor Lee David Weir's almost got as many league goals ffs
  21. McCulloch up front and goodbye to the title. Lafferty's touch is a bit shy? He's a technically far superior to McCulloch, not that that counts for much.
  22. Christ knows how we're as high as that.
  23. 10-20m No way in hell an SPL player would get that, particularly given we have projected an image to the rest of Europe that we are completely broke and will sell anyone for buttons. Wilson hasn't played that many games yet. He's looking really good but a lot of 17/18 year olds have looked good in Scotland in the last 20 years and failed to do anything. Maybe if we can keep hold of him for a few seasons and he gets a chance in Europe then we can generate a decent fee. Then again the likes of Spurs have happily splashed £10m+ on any old pish in the last ten years so you never know.
